  1. haha, i was like "wtf!" thx! yeah i guess i was right. i can get this one to a max of 847 / 1230 compared to the old one 864 / 1233. i can't even get anywhere near my 17015 which i scored once with the other one. my highest score with the new one is 16088 (AMD Radeon HD 6970M / 6990M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2670QM Processor,Alienware M17xR3 score: P16088 3DMarks) , but what is weird is, that i can see on my old result (AMD Radeon HD 6970M / 6990M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2670QM Processor,Alienware M17xR3 score: P17015 3DMarks) that the cpu-frequency was detected as 3161, on my actual score it was detected as 2949, but with the same settings (bclk 105.50). strange stuff! Added after 5 minutes: ah damn i think i know why...for whatever reason on the newer results since the card got updated the old drivers are active...8.851.2.0....wtf...i had the new ones on there. strange stuff!!! well, will have to wait until tonight as my ext. drive with all my stuff is at my friends house.
  2. i know i'm spamming right now..but i just thought of this: i guess every normal laptop user would be super happy that the machine is working again...but me, i'm thinking "oh, i wonder how high i can push the scores with this new card!" haha ;-) trying to max out the scores again...but i think this one is not as beasty as my old dead one when it comes to oc-ing. seems like i can't go as high as 864 / 1233 as it crashes vantage before. but i see how high i can get and still do a full run.
  3. ok, so it's working again, it was the 6990 which was burned out i guess. i'm doing a stress test with 800 / 1050 and in HWiNFO i got the following temps: GPU Thermal Diode: 74 GPU TS0 (DispIO): 75.5 GPU TS1 (MemIO): 77 GPU TS2 (Shader): 85.5 Is this normal, that the shader temp is 10degrees over the other (minimum) temp? i had this before, but not by this much of a difference.
  4. for some reasons dell already sent a technician with a new 6990m, even though they don't have it in stock yet.... i just watched the dell technician put half a pund (!!!) of MX4 (!!!!!!?) on the gpu...... and if it worked and it was the card which was faulty i'm calling dell right away after he left for the strange some-times-not-booting-on-battery-issue...
  5. I will try to ask for what you mentioned tomorrow. don't know how they will react, as i guess it's probably a little different here in switzerland. i will see how it goes tomorrow. thanks for the hint!
  6. nice to hear =/ piece of s*@$ dell services! another thing i noticed that on some really rate occasions, the laptop won't boot from battery. the power-on / hd activity alien will glow but after about 10 sec just go out again. even if the battery is full. plug in the power , it will do the same again, the lights go out but then it starts normally. i will probably call dell again tomorrow to infor them of this issue, too. starts to really piss me off.. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=47.552159,7.620873
  7. yeah really =( they told me 6990m's will be back in stock on 23. december, then they will send a technician to exchange it. i asked them to do an exchange to a gtx580 just because i don't want to wait that long. but those won't be in stock before january, so now i'm waiting for a new 6990m. =/ ;(
  8. i did a reseating of the card. still dead. daium!
  9. yeah exactly! suddenly after a reboot it wanted to install drivers for the hd3000 and then afger a next reboot it had switched to the hd3000, the 6990 had completely disappeared out of any systemspec (device manager, bios). could have been damaged by heat when i ran a test before noticing, that the fancontrol is not working... the hottest reading was 111 degrees O_o --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=47.551325,7.620682 ps: nah, didn't try to reseat it yet!
  10. tried it out, still dead...i guess it really did pass away then
  11. so now i flashed back the stock vbios yesterday...kept an eye on the fans just go make sure everything is okay. it was until this morning..the card just basically died on me. it's not even showing up in the bios anymore... called f'in dell and now i will have to wait until the 23rd of december until they got new 6990m's in stock. asked for an exchange to a 580gtx as i don't feel like waiting that "long"...they don't have any in stock until january. so now i'm waiting for the 6990m's to get back in stock and i'm pissed at dell...no stock of whatsoever...f*ç%ers! now i'm having fun with my integrated intel hd3000...
  12. would anyone be willing to give me his undervolted 6990m bios whoch has a working fancontrol in order for me to try to flash that one? --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=47.555951,7.617938
  13. feels like a monday --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=47.551372,7.621569
  14. well, i'm not even closing the hwinfo, just the fsncontrolpart of it =/
  15. i already did, but how i stated, everytime i close the fancontrol of hwinfothe fan stays exactly as it was when i closed it. =/ will read some more, maybe some post in this monster-thread contains my solution thanks! --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=47.540713,7.618180
  16. true, i flashed it again and the fan is not running faster until i open the fan-control on hwinfo. then if i close hwinfo-fancontrol and stop the stresstest, the temp will lower itself (of course). but the fan will not stop blowing this fast until i reopen the fancontrol again. how can i solve this? is there a way to edit the vbios so that the fan-control works after flashing (the fan-contol button on the RBE is greyed out.)
  17. i did it, used the stock vbios he put into the zip file, and only adjusted the voltage for the 715 / 900 from 1.1 to 1.051. then i flashed it, no problems. i did a stresstest using Intel XTU and the card went up to smokin' 97degrees!!! I immediately stopped the test, reflashed the standard stock vbios with standard volting and it's all okay again. what the h*ll? O_o
  18. a question to anyone who's done undervolting on the 6990m: can i use the guide of the user "technos" over at nbr in order to undervolt my vbios? anything special i should pay attention to? here's the link: 6990m Undervolt Achieved
  19. ps: god d*ç%M%!! i hate how my shader temp is the only temp which will go up to 82 under full load...all other gpu, memory, etc. stay around 74-75. *being picky right now*
  20. yeah i will take the alien to the server room after and put it right in the beam of the 19-degrees-shooting air conditoning. but then again, as u stated i probably need more voltage anyways ;-) okay so the max i can get outta my 6990m without crashing 3D Mark Vantage is 864/1233 resulting in 17015 (booooom) 3D Mark Vantage! and as i stated before, my bclk max is 105.50. screenshot to the 3D Mark Vantage run stated in my previous post.
  21. thx! i got a vantage running right now at (863 / 1233) ... can't wait for the result, even though i don't believe i will get much higher (if at all) than the one before. my bclk is at the max i can get 105.50 is ok, but even at 105.60 system will freeze immediately. graphics-wise, i reached the max of the memory clock (1233), any more and the system will black-sod during the bench. gpu-clock is not at the max yet...bench still running.
  22. thanks a lot for this very interesting & useful info!! so now i will do some research on how to use those special features.
  23. ok thanks for the info so this is meaning, i should just leave everything the way it is?
  24. yeah i've seen youtube videos on the differences between the two.. btw, i noticed on HWiNFO64 that the fans of my 6990 are not going over 30%, even on full load. did any one of you configure the fans other than standard? like in HWiNFO for example? my cards (800/1150) temp is around 55 - 60 when idle and i was just wondering on the fan not being used more than 30% when the card gets around 75 - 82 (sharders) degrees at the max.
