  1. Ok, one more thing. the gtx 980 that I'm trying to connect this to has dual 6-pin connectors, while the connector supplied is a 6-pin and an 8-pin so that it can support cards with either. The 8-pin connector already has just 6 cables going into it, with a couple looping back into the remaining slots. Can I just get a 6-pin connector on it's own somewhere and solder the ends into it? Are there any issues with doing that, or would it even work at all? Also, do you think that power supply would work with such a power hungry card? It's only rated for 220W, while you said elsewhere 250W.
  2. I'm going to hook this up to a gtx 980 using the mini-pcie option, and the package that I recieved did not have a power adapter in it, just the device itself, mini-pcie to hdmi cable, and a couple power cables for connecting the additional power requirements of the card. Is this normal? Can I contact someone to get one, or can I purchase one elsewhere? What are my options?
  3. I don't see the 970's going for a similar deal. Is it recently expired or something?
  4. While I would certainly be interested in reselling them for $300, I already bought one for me and one for my brother, and unfortunately that's all they had.
  5. just picked one up from best buy, even though the only nearby microcenter was a guy working out of his house doing computer repair under the microcenter name, but hasn't done business in 2 years. First person I got knew what he was doing and saw that it wasn't for sale in my state and denied. I came back 5 hours later and got someone else who was a bit more lenient.
  6. I'm a complete noob to the whole eGPU thing, but I know my way around computers, so I can figure that side out. I have been browsing this site and others to get my bearings, but I'm still a bit lost. I figured I would post here to get some actual human responses to my actual specific situation. I need to get a setup working on an MSI GT70 with a geforce gtx 980. The gt70 doesn't have an expresscard or thunderbolt, so naturally the option I'm going with is over mpcie, right? Fortunately on this laptop, the mpcie slot is very easily accessable on the top just behind the keyboard. My situation and reason for getting this is that I just recently purchased a GTX 980 when it was on sale for super cheap. I plan to build a full desktop soon once I get the money, but I would like to set up the egpu to tide me over until then. I have $150 to spend on this, so I can spend that on either $120 monitor which I would need for a desktop build anyway, which leaves a $30 egpu solution. However, if I don't get the monitor, then it would have to have some way of hooking back and using the laptop as a screen, but that would allow me to spend more on the egpu solution. So what I'm asking is: Is $30 reasonable for mpcie -> graphics card -> monitor? and is it possible to do mpcie -> graphics card -> laptop monitor? I'm no stranger to soldering so a temporary DIY solution isn't too big of an issue, but one of the biggest things I saw was that the pre-built kits come with an AC power adapter, which is something I can't DIY. How much do those cost on their own?
