1. Did that, I think it works :) played for about 30 minutes... the temps stopped going up at 81°C and 84°... I get 70-90 fps on BF4 High graphics... I don't know if I could get better performance with a little higher clocks... Where do you know the ratio between the clocks and voltage from? I'm happy for now but of course I want the best performance I can get with no overheating and no instability :D

    But thaaaanks so far :)

No :playful: , i dont know any official ratio. Like I said, every GPU chip has different settings that work.

You can try different values and always come down to these, if those dont work. For me, I found a sweet spot, as mentioned in my earlier screenshots. Any game and the temps dont go higher than 80 for me.

  2. So I don't need to change the chache voltage?

And yes I underclocked both settings: base clock -50 and memory clock -100 and -87.5mV but overheated. Then I tried -112.5mV and it went up to 86°C main GPU and 92°C at the ultrabay GPU. I was able to play for about 30 minutes but then the game crashed due to overheating (I guess).

After that I tried -125.0mV, it didn't crash and it didn't get that extremely hot but after some time I think the performance decreased :( should I try -100mV as well or should I try other values? I'm actually a noob at that but would be glad to find out values with that I have the best performance and no overheating.

I use MSI Afterburner to have a look at the temps and the clocks. The clocks were constant at the value I set them.

Any help is appreciated :) later I can post a screenshot of GPU-z if you want...

I am sure this forum has more intelligent people than myself however I can tell you that undervolting is definitely not going to harm your chip when done in reasonable boundaries.

Basic concept - The GPU needs a certain voltage to achieve the higher clocks.

Some GPUs can achieve their higher clocks at a lower voltage as well, which essentially reduces the heat generated in the chip from voltage (Undervolting)

Reducing the clocks decreases the stress on the chip at a given voltage.

Main objective - To find a voltage and clock combination that will reduce heat and give a stable system.

Now, certain GPUs may not show temp drop even after undervolting, this is just due to the way it has been manufactured. No 2 chips are the same and wont behave the same. All I can recommend is you can drop the voltage by 125mV and reduce the Base clock by 100 and Memory clock by 250, see if that helps.

  3. Thanks for your help so far, rockyston :)!!

I applied your settings and tested the temps and stability playing BF4 (I always have no fps limit, I wanna stress my GPUs to see if I got stable values and temps won't rise up). First I set graphics to medium and later on to high. The temps were going up permanently but very slow in comparison with the undervolting values before. After something like 20 minutes the ultrabay GPU reached 95° and the main one 90°C, then I stopped.

I would be very glad if you could give me a hint which value I should try next or how I should go on :)

Another little question: I undervolted the CPU using Intel XTU as you said... Should I lower the cache voltage offset as well?

I do strongly appreciate your help :)

The cache voltage is fine. You underclocked both settings - Base clock (-50) and memory clock (-100)?

You can try reducing the voltage further to -100mV, keeping the clocks at same level and see if there are any crashes.

Also, you can apply this mod to provide good ventilation for the Ultrabay fan -

    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Y510p-Ultimate-Cooling-Mods-Revealed-Unshroud-your-cooling-fans/td-p/1533688

The mod will void warranty. I have applied this mod also.

Try running GPU-z when you are playing the game, to see what max clocks the GPU is reaching, post a screenshot of the graph and values screen of GPU-z.

  4. Ok setting voltages and clocks works now :D thanks so far!! I tried underclocking by 100mHz and undervolting by 87.5mV, no crashes due to the voltage but it gets very hot (I tested it with Battlefield 4 on Medium settings, no fps limit). I stopped at 90°C at GPU 0 and 95°C at GPU 1. At the beginning I've got between 100 and 130 fps (which is equal to the performance that I get without any changes at the clocks and voltages) and when it got really hot I just had between 80 and 105 fps.

How should I go on with undervolting and underclocking? I wanna find values with that I get no crashes due to instability or overheating and no performance loss as well... Do you have any idea which values I should try next?

    Thanks in advance :)

Here are the settings I have applied on both my main GPU and Ultrabay GPU.

You may also want to use NVIDIA Extreme Tuning Utility to reduce your CPU turbo clocking, to help reduce temps. Look at the values I have highlighted in the screenshot -

  5. Hi! I have a question about flashing the ultra bay

after i put in dos commands

    nvflash -a

there is 2 graphic adapters "0" and "1"

then i started to flash "1"

    nvflash -i1 -r

    nvflash -i1 --save xxxxxx.rom

    nvflash -i1 -6 755mOC.rom

    flashing was passed perfect!

when i wanted to start flash "0"

    i put in

    nvflash -i0 -r

and DOS writes that EEPROM is not supported

should I flash "0" at all? or it is good enough to flash only "1"?

You only need to flash the Ultrabay. (1)

The BIOS flash takes care of the Main GPU.

  6. Anyone try win 10 with this bios mod? Can anyone please comment with their trial? Do all drivers work (those from win 8.1)?

I have not tried it and wont try it. Why? Because Y510p is officially not supported by Lenovo for Win 10.

My advise to keep a gaming rig running is to stay on win 8.1 as most games run on that OS.

As for observations around the forums I have gathered that you may encounter either of these problems -

    1) Unable to adjust brightness

    2) Wifi stops working (Big Issue on both 7260 and 2230 chips)

    3) Lenovo support apps stop working.

    4) BSOD

Only a couple of users have reported W10 success on Y510p.

  7. Just to put in my experience, my CPU was reaching about 85 celsius under heavy gaming load, my bigger problem was Ultrabay which was going to 98 celsius.

Installed the modded BIOS and undervolted both Main and Ultrabay GPUs by 87.5mV (Value -87.5mV)

Used Intel XTU to reduce the Core 3 and Core 4 clock multipliers to 27x. (I think this is what you should try - You wont lose much performance)

My current CPU temps dont ever go beyond 75 celsius, playing Dragon Age Inquisition/Shadow of mordor on high settings.

I dont know what is CPPC, but if you need feedback I can refresh my knowledge with that.

    • Thumbs Up 1
  8. i only changed settings i was comfortable with, no changes on voltage, speed or anything else, mostly i tried different settings of priority

    1) mgsv, but i have also problems with evry other game, skyrim, fallout, even solitaire... but only with second life running in the background, again evrything was runnign fine and dandy before i applied the mod

    2) i dont know exactly the fps, its crawling like a diashow, was running smooth before, in SL around 10 in the region im usualy at without gaming (got up to 25 with no problems it only dropped when it got network errors from the broadcomm adapter, hence why i bought a new wifi adapter)

    3) the same as it was before around 90°C during gaming

    4) the latest from Nvidia 358.50

    5) its actualy mostly turned off unless i really need it, with SLI activated it runs now as it ran without SLI before

    6) what exactly do you need?

also i really dont think this is a driver issue, i ran the same driver version before and after the mod, it was running fine before, the only thing that changed was applying the mod, didnt install anything new, didnt make any updates, didnt change any hardware except the wifi adapter, didnt change any windows settings, kept the bios on default settings (except when i tried out stuff, but i reverted that after testing, again didnt change mandatory things, only stuff i was comfortable with, didnt touch any overclocking inside the bios, only with the nvidia insider)

    1) Well, switch off Wifi and try playing. Do you see any improvement?

    2) Try uninstalling the GPU drivers (Control Panel > Device Manager and Programs & Features)

Install a fresh set of drivers, maybe download an earlier version say 347.25, to test first.

(If you need detailed instructions on a CLEAN INSTALL, let me know)

    3) In DXdiag, see what is your Display tab showing.

    4) Download CPUHW Monitor, run it and play a game. See what is the activity on your CPU and GPU.

    5) Play a simple youtube video (Full HD), does it play well?

Set your modded BIOS to defaults. I also modded the BIOS but never had such issue. Also, before doing the mod, I read through like 165 pages (yes all) and found no such issue.

  9. ok, please dont stone me and maybe the answer is in the thread already, but i dont really have the time to read through all 175 pages of this thread, i read the first 15 and couldnt find it there

i followed the instructions correctly on my y510p with bios 3.05 and 2x 755m evrything works fine and i was able to use the intel 7260 wifi card, which made me happy, but... now all my games are crawling on theyr toothflesh... i barely get any fps and im no longer able to run a virtual world client and play a game in window mode at the same time, this was working just fine before and now im barely able to run one of them

i tried different bios settings, i tried the nvidia inspector to maybe overclock the gpus (which resulted in all windows turning black) and i even tried to flash both gpu vbios back to the original firmware (which wasnt working either because nvflash told me they couldnt find a supported eprom on gpu 0), so im at the end with my latin, are there any settings i overlooked or is it possible to have just the fix for the whitelist for bios 3.05? because honestly i have no need for the extra functions

i would be very grateful if this issue could be fixed, if not, well then i just return evrything back to default and bring the intel card back to the store and use the crappy broadcomm adapter that came with the lenovo

First off, if you have read enough, you should know NOT to change GPU setting in the BIOS. It might brick your system.

Now, coming to your fps issue.

    1) Which game are you playing

    2) what is the fps

    3) what is the temp of CPU/GPU

    4) What is your GPU driver version?

    5) Have you confirmed SLI is enabled in NVIDIA Control panel?

    6) Can you post screenshots of NVIDIA driver version/DXdiag?

  10. I see... Thanks for the reply.

BTW, i think i am going to end up selling this laptop because i cannot get this GT755m to work at all.

I have tried the driver's in lenovo website, nvidia website (various driver's including the latest ones)..

I have tried doing registry cleaning before installing, i have formatted to windows 7, 8.1, 10 and nothing helps

me get that error code away.... maybe someone has any idea or a similar problem and have a solution as a last

hope before i end up selling this laptop :(

because i think i have tried everything unless it's a defective hardware issue?....

once again any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

@Lizzo @drschwabe .... maybe one of you guys have any info on this ?

Looking at all the troubleshooting that you have done, you might just have damaged the GPU chip with the wrong power supply (or maybe it was already damaged, if you bought the laptop recently).

I have seen that error but usually it gets fixed by resetting windows. You have a custom BIOS, so that doesnt help either.

  11. Well actually you can overclock it if you have done the temperature lowering mods mentioned on this site. I would still be wary though since my ultrabay card is reaching as high as 97 degrees celsius... Trying to bring those temps down is a pain I don't know why Lenovo did not include fan control software :D. One tip though is take off the canvas or screen or whatever on the bottom of the laptop. That dropped my temps drastically.

My Ultrabay was doing the same. No crashes but temp was 98 degree celsius.

Here is a copy of my post if you want some suggestions to bring down the temps -

    1) You can install the unlocked BIOS and VBIOS mod mentioned here -

    Lenovo Y410p / Y510p - unlocked BIOS / wlan whitelist mod / vbios mod

    Then use NVIDIA Inspector to,

Reduce clocks on both GPU by 100 Mhz

Reduce voltage on both GPU by 87.5 mV

and you laptop will never go beyond 80 C on any of them.

    2) Use NVIDIA XTU to downclock your CPUs at Core 3 and 4. I have mine set at 27x.

    3) Do the Y510P casing mod to provide good cooling for the Ultrabay fan.

    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-...1533688#M78976

Note - Mod in Step 3 will void your warranty.

Do, with all those mods and an ambient temp of 32-35 C these are my current temps (Playing BF3, Dragon Age inquisition, Shadow of mordor on Med/High) -

    CPU max - 78

    Main GPU max - 79

    Ultrabay GPU max - 79

I am still playing and after 3 months of these mods my laptop does not go beyond 79 degrees on any component.

  12. Hey rockykoston,

I have the same laptop as well and my solution was the "GT755M undervolt & underclock.bat"-file from this link: NvidiaInspectorForY510p. It sets the GPU clock speeds of both GPUs to 954mHz and changes something at the memory clocks. Somehow that results in a lower voltage and no more overheating and no more crashes while gaming. You do not need to mod your BIOS to use this file. I modded my BIOS as well and tried to lower the voltage of the GPUs without underclocking but I only got crashes while undervolting with Nvidia Inspector and the modded BIOS. Now my question is: Could you explain to me how exactly you did the undervolt with Nvidia Inspector and what voltage you chose? Maybe you could make such a batchfile with the commands like above.

I would be very glad if you could help me out :)

    Bobbey

    Sorry for delayed response.

As I mentioned, the clock speed reduced by 100.

Voltage reduced by 87.5 (On the slider, slide it towards left till you hit -87.5)

The Save this configuration on your desktop.

Each time you restart the laptop, you can click on this configuration file (which will have same icon as NVIDIA inspector) to set the required values. You can play the games after that.

If crash happens, post a screenshot of your NVIDIA inspector showing what you have modified.

    Thanks.

  13. Thanks so much for the advice @drschwabe and @Lizzo !! I went to a local computer shop here in nyc and told them exactly what you guys said about swapping the bios and now the laptop is unbricked! I am using it at this moment. The only problem i am having with this lenovo y410p is that the nvidia gt 755m is giving me blue screens once in a while.... do u guys think it could be because i have a 3rd party 90W ac adapter? IF so, what is the recommended output for this laptop? So i can order one online ASAP.

For the Y510p, the recommended power brick should be 120W. (Get the official Lenovo one)

If your system is SLI, then you need a 170W power adapter.

  14. This is very cool temp foe CPU because my CPU goes to 99 C when i am playing Assassin's creed black flag...Both GPU stay under 80,but close to 80 C ...I use throttle stop to maintain performance...I already did casing mod... Can your provide me what use set in bios ,and also does reducing voltage affect performance like fps drops?

    FOR CPU

Your CPU is running too hot, try to cool it down by using INTEL XTU. Turn the 3 core and 4 core setting down to 27x and the voltage to -50mV.

Watch this youtube video, if necessary -

    FOR GPU

I did not modify any setting in BIOS, but I am using an unlocked BIOS which enables NVIDIA Inspector to change the clocks and voltage of the GPUs.

Reducing voltage upto a certain limit does not affect performance and keeps the system cool.

Please read point 1 in my previous post for GPU undervolting and downclocking.

If you have a specific question, I would be glad to help.

  15. Cooling pad is good option,i use cooler master ergostand 3,amazing cooling pad with cotrol of fun speed and pad position ,couple different angles ,it keep cool your laptop but when you gaming nothing can help lenovo ideapad y510p SLI :D

That is not entirely true. My laptop was running quite hot (since summers hit) with Ultrabay reaching 98 C. With a few mods, its running cooler.

    1) You can install the unlocked BIOS and VBIOS mod mentioned here -

    http://forum.techinferno.com/lenovo-ibm/4668-lenovo-y410p-y510p-unlocked-bios-wlan-whitelist-mod-vbios-mod.html

    Then use NVIDIA Inspector to,

Reduce clocks on both GPU by 100 Mhz

Reduce voltage on both GPU by 87.5 mV

and you laptop will never go beyond 80 C on any of them.

  16. I did had sli version ... but since no plans for games I sold it on ebay for 160 $ 755m version .... now with single gpu and intel 4600hd ....

Anybody know how to disable intel gpu ?

If you only have the single GT755M model, then you cannot disable the Intel GPU, UNLESS you apply the unlocked BIOS.

For what purpose would you like to disable the Intel GPU? It is only being used for tasks such as Browsing, watching movies etc., for gaming your main GPU will kick in.

  17. Guys .... for those who playing really hard on Y510p ...

    3 questions ...

1 - what is normal top temp ??

2 is it normal to play for 5-8 hours ???

3 is it normal temp difference between 1st gpu and ultrabay ??? mine at ultrabay always 10c lower ...

    \

    thanks

I would say that I play a lot on my Y510P with graphically intensive games such as Shadow of Mordor, Dragon Age Inquisition, Metro Last Light etc

    1) Normal Temp can be answered for different parts of the laptop -

    CPU - 80 - 85

    Main GPU - 80 - 85

    Ultrabay - 90 - 95

    2) It is not normal (for health purpose :P ) to play for 5-8 hours, but I also do it on occassions. Games such as Fallout, Dragon Age need the time.

    3) If you are saying that your Ultrabay is 10C LOWER, then something is either wrong with your main GPU or your Ultrabay is not being used correctly. Here's why -

    a. Ultrabay GPU fan does not have a clear opening for fans.

    b. Ultrabay GPU has no proper cooling or heat dissipation, so it should heat up more.

    MODS -

I have applied a few mods to my system and now I am getting a decent performance (I dont think there is any loss) with the following temps -

    CPU >> 75-79 C

    Main GPU >> 78 C

    Ultrabay GPU >> 78 C

This is while playing the above mentioned games at med settings and getting an fps of 45-60.

If you need more information, let me know. Thanks.

  18. 1) My experience with Afterburner were not good when I tried it. The software made my GPU go 100% just from having a couple of tabs active in Chrome. I had to uninstall Afterburner and reinstall my drivers to get it back to normal. I then tried Firestorm from Zotac and it works well as far as I know.

    2) I do not use the presets in Firestorm, I use the manual clocking settings. I have decided to try NVInspector though since it seems to be the tried and tested option.

    3) This puzzles me, is 112.5mV normal? NVInspector shows both my GPU voltages at 1100mV @ 888Mhz. I have not touched the voltages, I do run the modified VBIOS from this forum.

Flashing the VBIOS and BIOS was easy, no issues from my side. And the temperatures differ a few degrees, I usually get high 80's when gaming, underclocking reduced it only about 2-4 degrees C. (I did not monitor temperatures closely though, I can't give you exact numbers, just brief flash memories)

So, yes I was able to mod my BIOS and VBIOS as well.

    1) I uninstalled Afterburner as well (not many options). I am using Nvidia Inspector for now to downclock and undervolt my ultrabay GPU. (Details below)

    2) Here are some of the mods I had to do in order to bring the temps real low (since ambient temp is around 34) -

    a. I did the unshroud mod for Ultrabay mentioned in this link -

    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Y510p-Ultimate-Cooling-Mods-Revealed-Unshroud-your-cooling-fans/td-p/1533688

    b. I have removed the dust filter from the back cover.

    c. Downclocked and Undervolted the Ultrabay GPU.

Following are the downclocked settings -

    1) GPU downclocked by 120MHz, so hovering around 900 Mhz

    2) Memory downclocked by 300 Mhz, so hovering around 2400Mhz , shows as 1200 in GPU-z

    3) Undervolted by 120mV, so max voltage now is 987 mV

After an hour of testing games (Shadow of mordor and DA: Inquisition at Medium settings), I got 40-60 fps depending on scene and combat.

    CPU temp Max - 79

Main GPU temp Max - 75

Ultrabay GPU temp max - 75

System is stable but I will try to increase the voltage and clock a bit more and see if that increases performance, keeping temps under 85.

  19. About my system - GT755M SLI - Ultrabay heating upto 98 degrees within 15 min. Ambient temp is 28 - 35 degrees

So, since I had to do this, I did the entire process, followed each step meticulously. Couple of things missing and may cause problems for some users -

    1) To Back flash 2.07, you need to ENABLE the BIOS back flash function in BIOS menu. This can be done at the starting of the process.

    2) When you create the DOS bootable USB, it will look empty.

    3) If you are trying to boot DOS from USB and it doesnt work, you will need to go into BIOS and set the boot mode to 'Legacy Support'. and then priority as 'Legacy First'.

    4) After Step 3, you will be able to boot from the DOS USB (but your windows wont boot)

    5) To boot windows, you will have to revert back to UEFI mode in BIOS.

Many thanks to svl7 for creating this. After applying the BIOS and the VBIOS for GT755M SLI, I did the following modifications through NvidiaInspector -

    1) GPU clock down by 120

    2) Memory clock down by 300

    3) Undervolt by -112.5mV

The max temp I got on Ultrabay was 75 degrees (with avg of 72). The system appears stable (no crashes in about an hour of gaming) but I will try to make the undervolting to 100mV and see the stability, maybe also reset the clocks to original settings.

The CPUs are maxing at about 80 and same for the main GPU.

If anyone has any questions, I can help you out. If you have bricked your BIOS, then this thread also has several solutions to try (I just went through all the posts, yes all).

Try boot, then F2, wait, F9 and then F10.

I would recommend creating a old BIOS backup on a DOS booting USB. Thanks again.

  20. I was also planning to upgrade to 353.30 but tried searching for the problems while it was downloading. Found a bunch and hence decide against the upgrade.

There have been 2 hotfixes, if I am corrcet, after those drivers. Is there any improvement?

Should I just stay on the 347.25 drivers. I have a GT755M SLI setup.

Also, I wanted to ask. Can the drivers result in high temperatures on GPU? Should I revert to an even more old driver since I am experiencing higher temps on one GPU now.

I am willing to try anything and will be doing some voltage tweaks and maybe repasting as well. Thanks.

  21. Hi Zuhair, I have 755M SLI as well and most games run well. The most demanding games that I have are Shadow of Mordor, Metro Last Light and Dragon Age Inquisition.

At Med/high settings (no Tessellation and AO) - all games push the main CPU and GPU to 80 degrees. Games run at 50-60 fps (Locked at 60 max)

My Ultrabay goes upto 98 now. The problem is that my current ambient temps are too high (27 - 35) and I don't have a air conditioning in the current setup location.

I tried modding the clocks but the temps still reached the peak, just slower.

I am going to mod the BIOS and VBIOS to change the voltage, i hope something changes. Did you do the mod? How were the results?

Also, what are your ambient temps, do you use a cooling pad?

  22. Since I have the same problem (my second GPU heats up), my observations to your questions -

    1) If you already have the modified BIOS and VBIOS, you can use a utility like NVIDIA inspector or MSIAfterBurner to reduce the voltage and do a bit of underclocking.

    2) The software you have posted have some presets for undervolting and underclocking scripts. I don't agree with running those, I would advise that you do it yourself.

    3) From what I have read, undervolting by 100mV to 112.5mV works for most users. You can also underclock by 100.

I will be modding my BIOS and vBIOS too, in order to do these setting. I will try to make a video or record my observations, will let you know if I do this properly.

Let me know if you also resolved your issues.

  23. Not sure if this is posted or not, so trying again -

ok, so I read about 100 pages of this thread and I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do.

Could someone please confirm the following things -

    1) I have BIOS 3.05 and I only want to undervolt my Ultrabay GPU. (as it is over heating)

    2) Can I undervolt my Ultrabay, just by flashing the VBIOS or do I need to flash the BIOS as well?

    3) Do I need to go down to 2.07 BIOS in order to flash the VBIOS?

My CPU is under control with max temp of 80, my main GPU is fine with max temp of 80.

My Ultrabay GPU reaches 98 (on demanding games).

    Thanks.

Note: I can delete this if it is duplicate or the mods can delete it.

My CPU is under control with max temp of 80, my main GPU is fine with max temp of 80.

My Ultrabay GPU reaches 98 (on demanding games).

    Thanks.
