  1. Thank-you My AKiTiO Thunder 2 arrived this morning. I have a DA-2, just waiting on cables and trying to decided on a graphics card now. I'll be sure to do a write up when I've got a setup sorted.
  2. Thanks for the write up As you've quoted the prices in GBP, are you UK based? If so, where did you get the Thunder2 from and how much did it cost? I wasn't aware of this limitation, is there no way to have the eGPU display on the internal screen? Have you ran this in OS X?
  3. I did see that post, but with shipping costs of ~$60+ I was hoping to find a better way. I might be able to get someone from my workplace to buy one in the US and then bring it back with them. I'm not in a rush at the moment. I'm still absorbing information from this forum, currently in awe of the build that @bsohn has done. It's exactly what I want, something that is compact and properly portable!
  4. That's excellent, thank-you I'm now trying to figure out the best (cheapest) way of getting a AKiTiO Thunder2 into the UK. (I've already bought a DA-2 to power it!)
  5. I have a 15" Retina MBP Mid 2012. GT650M, i7 2.3Ghz and 16GiB of RAM. Is the 16GiB of RAM likely to cause issue with an eGPU in an AKiTiO Thunder2?
  6. Thanks for the reply. With (2), how much would I be crippling the eGPU when using it on the MBP. I can see from raw bandwidth it looks like a lot (10Gbps vs 4Gbps), but is that going to make much difference for a mid-range GPU? I'd hoped to find expresscard-to-TB, but after searching.. doesn't seem to exist Both systems have 16GiB of RAM, is this going to cause an issue?
  7. Hi all. I'm considering building an e-GPU setup. I would want it to work with both of my laptops. One is an X220T (ExpressCard) and the other is a 2012 MBP 15" Retina (Thunderbolt 1). When I started looking, I found the Akitio Thunder 2 and thought that would suit the Mac side of things - but not the X220T. ExpressCard to Thunderbolt is an unknown to me, is that going to cause problems? What would you guys use for this setup?
