Here is my solution to the fan control problem.

I was browsing on ebay looking for some sort of micro switch that I could hook up to the fan brown wire, so I could turn it on or off when needed, and I came across this temperature sensor/switch. They work like a thermostat, when reaching a certain temperature it will either turn on or off depending on the model.

You can choose from a range of temperatures, from like 45C to 130C. I'm using a normally closed, 70C model. Around 70C it will open the circuit and run the fan at full speed until the temperature drops down to around 65C. They are dirty cheap! I paid 99 cents each, including shipping.

Wire the sensor in series with the brown wire, place it as close as possible to the chip or heatpipe using thermal adhesive tape and you're done.

This is what it looks like

(I keep the wires tucked under the black sticker)

I glued the sensor with double sided thermal adhesive directly on the heatpipe.

There's not enough room on the ultrabay GPU to glue the sensor on the heatpipe, so I glued it right next to it. Worked just as well.

This is the listing I ordered from: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331577233585

Search for "KSD9700". Make sure you choose the "Normally Closed" model.

Both GPUs are running at 1189MHZ and the memory is running at stock speeds.

GPU2 was repasted a couple months ago with Mastergel Maker from Cooler Master. CPU and main GPU still have the stock thermal paste.

"Idle" temperatures, watching a video, browsing the web (measured on a hot day).

    CPU ~55C

    GPU1 ~50C

    GPU2 ~40C

Full load (GTAV, BF Remastered, MadMax). GPU2 will overheat and throttle using a GPU burner software like Furmark and OC Scanner. This never happens in any gaming session, regardless of how long I play.

    CPU ~80C

    GPU1 ~77C

    GPU2 ~83C

@fmj777 bro, i did the sensor mod that you have posted, but my fan stopped working after. can you help me as to what have gone wrong? I've soldered the wires in series as your instructions and photos, I'm not sure if that's what caused it to stop working. did you solder yours or just wrapped them together? can you give advice as to what to do? thanks!

  2. It works. I got it, but decided to return my GPU and get a different one (Red Devil to Strix) pretty quickly, so I didn't have much time for testing.

    @Tesla posted some benchmarks here.

thanks, does it work with the internal screen? or do we need to hook it up to an external display?

  3. Hi everyone, if anyone is kind enough to take a photo of the bios chips of the Y410p please do so. I just need the correct orientation of the chip because i need to replace my bios chip due to a bad flash. I already desoldered the old bios chips and forgot how the orientations were. If anyone can help me. Thanks!

  4. Hi. Did anyone attempted to solder new bios chip after bricking?

I have seen that some company is selling bios chips for our laptop. I am probably going to buy it. I havent bricked my laptop(jet) but just in case it happens I will have those chips.

BIOS Chip:LENOVO Ideapad Y510P (Dual chips) | eBay

I have also seen other seller but its for Y510, they look same but I dont know if they are actually same, as they come preprogrammed already.

    Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 (15303) Bios-Chip24.com

Also I am looking forward to buy this programmer if the chip will be compatible. I contacted the seller that I want to make sure what is the part number for bios chip of our laptop. I am too lazy to dissasemble my laptop again to look what part number it is :D

SPI Flash Programmer WINBOND ST PMC MXIC ST SST ATMEL | eBay

Edit: It seems like chips in our laptop are Winbond 25Q32FV and Winbond 25Q16DV And they are pretty cheap to buy on aliexpress.com even if you buy them in bulk so in any case cost of chip plus programmer is cheaper rather than sending it to lenovo.

I ordered one of those chinese programmers. SP8-B SPI Programmer to be specific as it supports the chip we have in y510p and tommorow I am gonna order chips. I have to buy 10 of each but they are cheap. At least I have spare ones just in case.

hi may i know the status of your bios replacement?

  5. found another one with the 4 pin but this is for the xbox 360.

Customised Speed Xbox 360 Slim FAN MOD Accelerator Controller | eBay

maybe we can contact the creator to make a fan mod specifically for our laptops y410p/ y510p series.

he has 100% positive reviews from ps4, ps3 and xbox users.

    this is the sellers profile.

    http://www.ebay.com.sg/usr/circuit5urgeon?_trksid=p2047675.l2559

its very easy to use just like an additional wire, no need to solder or cut anything.

    what do you guys think?

but i think the xbox 360 fan mod will work for us because same connector, he just changed the PWM signal.

  6. Ok i flashed the modded bios with vbios and wanna share my thoughts..

I APPRECIATED the modded bios with custom modded vbios so much..Thanks SVL7

but with new configurations after 3 hours benchmark testing i found the best stabil GPU and MEM clocks

    +160mhz on core = 1218mhz

    +400mhz mem over core = 2900mhz or 5800mhz

    +37.5mV voltage

BEYOND above values gpu is getting tooo hot under %99 load in 5 minutes and breaks 90C and above..especially with a combination of cpu at the same time gpu is getting easily too hot..because the left side fan cools both cpu and gpu together...but there is something very ridiculos thing i dont understand from the beginning..there is a built in DUST REMOVER thing in energy management software..when you start it both fans getting reach their topspeed..but in real time working all hardware is getting too hot under fullstress, cpu is near 98-99C and GPU is 90C but both fans working minimum %50 slower than when using dust remover program ???? because they can work faster we see it in dust remover

Is there any way to get them work continuously in its FULLSPEED just like when in dust removing or is there any option in the modded bios or SVL7 could make a new EC firmware about this??

Try this, but its not perfect. IdeaFan for y510p'>http://forum.techinferno.com/showthread.php?t=7358

  7. BiosFixer 2.0 DOESNT WORK....! I decided to use your modded bios for y510p 750M SLI version..after successfully updated to bios 3.05 from 2.07 and took a backup of new 3.05 bios then

when I simply drag and drop bios backup file on BiosFixer_2.0.exe just a small windows pops out but there is neither a button nor a browse thing in there..? and when I close it nothing created in the same folder as it should be "v305mod.bin" just look at my picture uploaded..

and I also disconnected the second gpu from the bay but it doesn't work again

and I cant go back or downgrade to official 2.07 bios even though Bios Back Flash is ENABLED in bios and when I run this "Y510p-Y410p_v207_[stock].exe" with ADMIN priviligies says "Bios version compare error"... WT:Banane56: ?

you should drag the file bios.bin onto the small window. around the white area.
