I tried Nvidia's 361.43 notebook driver. A thing to take note is that the notebook driver and the desktop version of 361.43 have the same filesize and version number. I did not check the files contents to see if they are identical. All tests were done using internal LCD only.

Update: 361.43 drivers whether for desktop or notebook are exactly the same, same file size, same folder structure when extracted

    Background:

I am currently on Nvidia 344.75 desktop driver on Windows 10, I find that any newer drivers gave me stuttery performance and flickering in Starcraft 2, WoW and Furmark. This has been happening even when I was on Windows 7, starting with drivers around 347.XX range (can't remember exactly which).

    System Specs:

    Thinkpad X220 Tablet

    i5-2520m

    16GB Ram

    HD graphics 3000

    Geforce GTX 560SE @ PE4L 2.1b running on internal LCD only (1366 x 768)

    WIndows 10 64bit

    Nvidia notebook driver test:

    Unmodded

Surprisingly, the 361.43 notebook driver install without any problem unmodded. The flickering and stuttering only occur when I start a game in Starcraft 2. Tomb raider 2013 crashed while navigating in the main menu.

    Modded (with Nando's instruction above)

Since it's a Windows 10 driver, some steps will differ such as "[NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.0]" will be "...NTamd64.10.0" instead. For this driver, Starcraft 2 starts flcikering and stuttering even in the main menu. This symptom is similar to some of the newer desktop driver I tried (35X.XX). Was not able to start a game due to the amount of flickering. Tomb Raider 2013 crashed as well. Thus, performance and stablity is worse than the unmodded driver.

In the end I reverted back to driver 344.75. Hope the above info helps anyone who is troubleshooting optimus problems on their systems.

    Hello panda

you wrote in your post, that you had W7. how did the upgrade to W10 work? did you have to make the 1.3 setup new?

im using w7 atm but i want to have W10 for some reasons.

    system:

    mbp 15 retina iris + 750m

    16gb ram

    2.4 GHz i7

    GTX 980 TI

    screen: Acer Predator x34

    regards

    martin

ps: i dont need that optimus stuff. im not using the internal LCD

  2. Get your stuff from Germany ;)

  3. So I should be getting everything tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited.

I am checking that I have everything downloaded and updated before so that I don't have any holdups. I have looked over the steps to make sure I am not missing anything. I made sure my install of windows is UEFI and it is. I just updated my NVIDIA drivers to 347.09.

Anything else I can do in prep? Thanks!

    I am on a rMBP late 2013 15" with 750m.

    Hi th3v3rn

i dont know :-/ i made a mbr implementation via windows 7. just make sure at the begining that the setup 1.30 runs good and the chainloader works fine. @Nando is really the man for this if you have any problems with the implementation. he knows everything :)

  4. Oh sorry, I should have mentioned that. I'm thinking a 970 FTW, that seems to be the PSU everyone has the last problems with. I like EVGA do that's a plus.

I have also been trying to find if the AkiTiO is better than the ViDock +4 and I can't seem to find much, only that the vidock MAY be running only TB1 speeds with the AkiTiO using TB2. Is there a difference.

Great work also! I have been looking at buying a gaming laptop but the stumbled upon this and it seems I can keep my macbook for when I'm not home.

    Hi th3v3rn

My 970 runns with the vidock but its crap. the benchmarks are good but when you play games you notice that it doesnt bring the power throuh the adapter. for example. dragonage inquisition should run on ultra on 1080p with 70 to 80 fps. i get just 35 to 40 but the card runns on 100%. second example watchdogs. should rund on ultra max 1080p with 70 fps. it does just 30 with the vidock. third example BF4. max settings 1080p should do 80 fps. it does just 40 -50....

so you better dont buy a vidock. its just a waste...

  5. My PSU had some coilwhine so it had to be replaced and I want to paint the plasticboard where the AKiTiO PCB is mounted :)

The card can give more when it gets the full 16Gbps speed over Thunderbolt and not using ViDock. One thing is also score/points in terms of benchmarks, the other is actual performance and "feeling" in games and GPU load-heavy applications.

There is some benchmarks in my original post, but I will post some new ones once my PSU has arrived :frog:

Whaaaaat? why the hell would you do that?!?! xD the colour of your board is awesome!

yeah i think the card is never under full load. and it has a bit of coilwhine but i think when i mount it in a case, i wont hear it anymore.

uuuh cant wait to compare :D hope my akitio will ship soon ^^

  6. Yes, just try mounting the GPU in the case with only the powered riser cable attached and you will see why the angled riser is needed :)

Regarding my post, I hope to get it updated in the weekend, but that requires my package to arrive today - fingers crossed :frog:

And just ask if you have any another other questions or something comes up.

haha i wish you all the best :D but what are you changeing on your setup?

an other question, i made it work via the vidock and all the benchmarks are really good but the game benchmarks are not as expected. i got a score of 8066 with the fire strike benchmark. because i will have the exactly same setup as you have, can you do some benchmarks when you got the time? that would be great

  7. It would be best to find the smallest available and one with a "right" oriented insertion. They don't look to have a right insertion version though, but I just measured and there is plenty of room for a left insertion version and it will still solve the problem. Just make sure that you place the AKiTiO PCB close enough for the riser to reach both the AKiTiO PCB and the GPU :)

So go for PC-Ostschweiz - Delock Riser card PCI Express x16 angled 90° left insertion

ah perfect. so i didnt get anything of the parts i ordered but i hope i will get all the stuff soon. when i get the Case i will better understand the space problem with the angled riser i think ^^

im very looking forward to see your updated thread with (i hope) some more detailed photos of the wireing and maybe a schema.

  8. Hi @tre87

Thanks for the information. now i understand a littlebit more :D i had an other question witch you nearly answered in you reply to jagung ^^ its because of the angle riser. i dont understand what you mean with "use it in a CM Elite 130 case without cutting". is it a mechanical problem? i can do a lot of custom steel work on the case so my question is if the Angle riser is needet to make it work.

    Martin

  9. Hi tre87

I just made my GTX 970 work via the ultra crap vidock on my mbp 2013 750m on windows 7. but now o bought your setup :D can you make a little schema how you wired up all that stuff? i cant find out if or where i ned plug the riser molex connector. is it directliy connected to the PSU? im a little bit confused. some people need the akitio psu and some dont. some people talk about a barrel to molex connection. so i dont know what i really need to do and how to wire up.

    thanks for your support!

  10. Hello guys

I have a 2013 MBP with iris hd and the 750m gt... i made it work so far that it just haves error 12 (took me a week -.- ). has some of you found out how to make it work? i cant enable the iGPU (it sais i cant with chipset 6+) or disable the dGpu (freezes). but it detects the gtx 970 in the 1.3 setup and on windows. i think my mistake is the code i copied in the pci.bat file and the startup file. is there a new version of that code for my macbook already?

thanks for all kind of help <3
