i know my Clevo 157sm with gtx 980m cuts out 180watt psu with Far Cry 4, actually 2 different PSU: one been original from Clevo, and other brander Delta PSU from Msi gt70. though both systems were originaly shipped with 780m

for external monitor only?

i've had around 15 980m cards and 10 970m cards, and non of them been DOA, nor died in the process of using, including OC.

mr Fox, my system does shut down 1 sec straight away when i run Furmark with OC and the green light goes out on the PSU. look at video of power consumption J95 has linked to few posts up. it clearly shows that power consumption goes beyond 400watt sometimes, and i get around same fps and score result. as i have written before, my GPU's do not throttle at all, but instead my CPU does. lowering CPU OC, helps to bring some more OC to the cards, and when i run CPU "free" application such as furmark, it allows much more OC and OV before the shut down. i have worked on the Vbios i am using for some weeks now, to get it working the way i wanted it to. now i need someone with Dual PSU and unlocked system bios to test if it work with OC. simple math: 2 980m cars, each has 125TDP. overvolting by 0.1V brings them to 137TDP, adding another 10% to the Core is already 140, give some more to the memory and we have 150Wat consumption with single card. not much left for the Extreme CPU, right?

well... sli does work fine: stable and solid, unless OC and OV at the same time beyond certain TDP. i have one card installed with 69% ASIC Q, and other with 73.5. i will swap the lower one for another one i have with 75% and will see how far will i get. still, almost 26000 GPU score is not bad at all!

single PSU, alienware 18 doest have dual psu mod, does it? without sli - no throttling with OC. wow, thats heavy power consumption, no wonder i get cpu throttling down the way.

i have monitored the process more detailed and it looks like the CPU starts to throttle when i increase clock or voltage of 980m beyond certain limit. when i install Throttlestop it stops CPU throttling, but then my GPU starts throttling back to stock(P1). am i hitting my system TDP limit?

i've got the same result in Firestrike that you did. i am running sli with slv7 hex edited bios. no random visible throttling whatsover on any driver, but seems i am running into some fps cap in 3dmark11, as it never goes higher than 120.5fps and my gpu util gets 70-80 when it hits that wall.

forgot to add, to flash cards under UEFI, after many hours of waiting, priorly having the machine sleeping, one have to disable the drivers for GPU's in Device Manager only after the nvflash promt screen has appeared. if it is not disabled, the system will crash and the whole cycle has to be repeated!!! - - - Updated - - - Miguel, can you please tell me what is your 3rd mark 11 graphic score with 980m sli?

i dont know why, but just can't get over 22000 gpu score with 980m in sli without OC, with +100 i get to 23000, but that's it. i have also noticed that while GPU clock 1126, gpu video clock is still 1026 in hwinfo64. now trying to override that in vbios with hex edit to see if it can run at same freq. another weird thing is that i get 99% gpu d3d usage, while gpu core load doesnt go more than 80-90%. what is the bottleneck? cpu usage hardly getting to 50-70% max. tried many drivers and mods already mr. Fox have you ever seeing more than 120,5fps in 3rd mark11? anyone? i saw you scored around 26000 at near stock with 980m, how did you do that?

look a few posts up, i was able to flash 980m sli twice under full Uefi in ALienware 18. anyone with Alienware 980 sli around? or m18x r2? what i did was, i ve ran the nvlfash and pushed the laptop to sleep over night while nvflash was hanging, in the morning woke it up and waited 2 hours and was greeted by a confirmation screen! done that 2 times already, 2nd time it was a sleep for 3-4 hours, but still had to wait 2hours before the promt screen. not too convinient, but better than dissasabling and flashing cards one by one i guess.

guys, i am here with Alienware 18 sli. flashed a edited(myself) slv7 bios with extended temp target, lowered TDP for safety and downclocked to stock, and memory OC'd to 2800. can't get beyond 22000 grpahic score in 3d mark11. anyone outhere still with sli to test? the weird thing is that furmark utilizes my gpu's at 100% and i get 186fps at 1280x720 no MSAA in sli, Valley score 4600 with ultra quality fullhd 4xmsaa, which is proportional to the sli usage of my 880m sli. but 3d mark only utilizes 70-90% of each gpu and i get 120.5fps cap, though no Vsync is on and my screen is 60. edit: btw, flashed both cards under full UEFI, just had to wait quite long few hours for nvflash to hook.

anyone experiencing horrible gamma with 980m m18x r2? i have actually fixed the flickering at unengine page and also fixed the gamma state of the originally modded driver. all runs like a solid machine now

how did you mod the driver? i think i have solved the flickering issue, btw. for now only with 780m that it was flickering with too, but will try similar fix for 980m tomorrow!
