  1. Did you issue this command after you made your modify the kext files? sudo kextcache -system-caches Here's the quick step on how to implement eGPU with OSX / Yosemite 1. Download latest 10.10 NVidia webdriver (don't setup your eGPU yet) 2. modify kext files (issue sudo kextcache -system-caches) 3. restart 4. select NVDIA WebDriver as default driver under NVIDIA Control Manager/Panel (maybe this is the step you are missing?) 5. shutdown - setup your eGPU - power back your OS.
  2. That's odd. Before Yosemite, your eGPU setup was working with your MBP and external monitor right?
  3. Can you check your systems build version and see if it matches the string value of your kext file for < key >NVDARequiredOS< / key > < string > 14A389< / string >
  4. Can you post the screenshot section of your modified NVDIAstartup kext file? There's already a final release of NVidia 10.10 webdriver (not BETA), maybe you can try this step. http://us.download.nvidia.com/Mac/Quadro_Certified/343.01.01f01/WebDriver-343.01.01f01.pkg You do however need to bypass the hardware and software validation of the package. Here's my guide how to modify the package. http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/7792-[warning]-osx-egpu-os-x-releases-10-9-5-update.html
  5. I think the screenshot is correct. If you will be using your macbook's screen as the main display, the built-in GPU will be utilized while if you use external display as primary the eGPU kicks in. I believe the result is different if you drag the the Unigine application in MBP display. I am away from my setup right now (traveling), but I believe I tried this before. Can you please test this? I did not encounter this issue on my Mac Mini and MBP 2011 13inch on Sonnet III-D. Are you running the Safari on MBP or External display? Did you use the beta 10.10 NVIDIA webdriver? I did encounter that issue too, what I did was to change some key values in the NVDAStartup.kext and fixed the issue. see my post here. http://forum.techinferno.com/enclosures-adapters/7205-us%24200-akitio-thunder2-pcie-box-16gbps-tb2-56.html#post109238
  6. I was able to have my eGPU work with Yosemite 780 Ti on Sonnet III-D 750 FTW on AkiTio
  7. We are very creative For my end, I did cut that part instead of bending it. Anyway, here's an update I got a GTX 750 Ti FTW 2GB (with 6 pin) and I was able to work it with OSX...... sorry not with Mavericks but with Yosemite (but I think it will also work, because in Yosemite I changed the following section of NVDAStartup.kext < key >NVDARequiredOS< / key > < string >13E28< / string > and replace the string value with my OS System version. Benchmarks are low because OpenCl is not yet fully working with the nvidia beta drivers. And by the way, I never encountered the freezing issue with AkiTio/Mavericks. So looks like the 970 or 980 looks promising!
  8. Correct my card is the reference version air is pushed out of the back of the enclosure. I'm not sure it it's on the card or with the power being supplied by the 6pin. Actually the restart happens on the 3rd scene so it hasn't really gone anywhere. I checked the backplate of the card and it is not warm yet. Thoughts?
  9. unfortunately the 6pin y-splitter didn't work for me. It worked but not until I ran the heaven benchmark then it rebooted my system. During reboot I heard a loud fan spin of the gpu card. BTW I purchased a cooler master fan since it is only .6 thin just matches the original size of the stock fan. Add a 3pin to 2pin adapter for it,
  10. Hhahaha that was my youtube video out there! :-) let's do the petition then to bring down the price of the unit!!
  11. another way to test is to remove the GPU from AkiTio. Turn on your laptop and AkiTio with the TB cable connected. Check your system information/device manager if the AkiTio or any TB is being showned as connected devices.
  12. Well I was able to run the AkiTio with 760 before, with riser and without shouldn't be the case. does you tb port on your laptop working properly? You mentioned that the AkiTio blue led turns on and off when you turn on your setup? Is that correct?
  13. the gree light means the board is powered on. Blue when the thunderbolt connection is established.
  14. I recall @Tech Inferno Fan posted the following http://forum.techinferno.com/members/mrhappypills.htm That might provide an answer?
  15. Thanks for this @MrHaPPyPiLLs ! I know gtx 980 draws less power, but is this setup safe for the 780ti using a 8/6 pin y-splitter too?
  16. OK. so it's not with the card really since you upgraded to 970 and still got the random crash.
  17. Yes very stable. Never got any kernel panic or freezing... I even run LuxMark and UniEngine high settings at the same time for 2 consecutive times. Play steam games(high setting 2550x1460) straight 3hrs. - - - Updated - - - Only If you use rMBP 2013 up (via optimus in Windows). Mac OS you need an external screen otherwise the internal GPU kicks in if you use MBP screen
  18. can you please post your testing. Are your running this via osx or windows? yeah try using unigine the max settings and highest resolution.. Try to test 4 consecutive times...try also luxmark..
  19. Yes I was able to make it work including @goalque . His setup is working perfectly with rMBP with or without the riser. I had kernel panic issues though with my AkiTio-OSX combo (with or without riser).
  20. Another observation, whenever, I do steam games or benchmarking, the GPU card is much hotter when installed in AkiTio compare when installed to Sonnet III-D
  21. I have the PSU RM 650 using a powered molex. I didn't tried Windows, only OS X.
  22. I have the EVGA GTX 780 Ti reference model. I have previously tried the following cards on my AkiTio (760, 770, and 780) both have same results. Is there any utility for OSX to see the GPU temperature? I do have iStat Menus, but it doesn't show any information about GPU. It show's which one is being used but not the utilization related to the GPU.
  23. I still have this issue with my AkiTio for OS X. Under heavy load, OS would crash (similar to what you experience). I already posted the other kernel panic log in the previous thread. I can't recreate lowering the power and gpu clock similar to Windows since OS X doesn't have such utility. Tried the following combinations 1. New PSU 650 2. 2 different of Riser 3. AkiTio and Riser are powered form PSU (barrel matted with molex) I guess am now stuck with an AkiTio that will be used to daisy chain Thunderbolt, and stick with Sonnet III-D. Or I can send my AkiTio and have someone take a look at it and what needs to be done
  24. Sharing bandwith information thru CUDA Toolkit in OSX https://www.clear.rice.edu/comp422/resources/cuda/html/cuda-getting-started-guide-for-mac-os-x/index.html
