  1. I just noticed that the GPU memory showing in your benchmark is 4GB? is this just the Unigine thing?
  2. Hey Guys, has anyone here jumped to and use GTX 1080 on your EGPU? Please post some little review.
  3. ... Good thing you did not forgot to say TY... good job! Enjoy your eGPU!
  4. It is only showing that the previous driver version is still compatible..... Can you open the NVIDIA Driver Manager Preferences? and click Check Now button if it has a new driver for 10.11.5? If not then you have to wait. @goalque script is working for sure only if there's a valid driver.
  5. Can you try the following 1. Do an SMC reset 2. Before you start your mini, connect to your monitor via HDMI while the thuderbolt is connected. Start your mini and verify if the GPU is detected is connected. If it is connected, remove the hdmi to your mini and connect it directly back to the GPU. 3. You may also do the following. Shutdown. Click Command + R right after you start your mini. Go to terminal and type the following csrutil disable and do the step #2. Let me know how it goes.....
  6. There you go... I should have been more resourcefull in looking somenof the previous post!
  7. And SLI works in OSX? Rendering only or including games? Thanks! Very nice development....
  8. Hi @squinks have you tried to daisy chain the two enclosure and just use one TB cable to your MBP?
  9. I had a 650W before with my Akitio/770/780ti/combo. And intermittently with 970 surprisingly, I never had an issue with Highpoint Rocketstor /970 until now. Playing games for 4 straight hours and leaving the unit open for whole day.... I left my Akitio offshore... Until it arrive by mail soon I can do another test
  10. Yes this is a great enclosure. You don't have to create a barrel and such. I never experienced any kernel panics like the Akitio. I think this is a very stable. Been running this enclosure for 4 days now and not experienced any issues.
  11. Is there anyone here that uses Akitio and still encountering this kind of issue? This was the same issue I encountered with my Akitio GTX 770 and 780TI combo before and even with the full length GTX 970 from time to time I would experience that kernel panics during gaming.
  12. Hello fellas. This is my 3rd eGPU setup. I had an Akitio and Sonnet III-D setup before. By far, I think this is the easiest setup I had compared to the previous two. Maybe because I am not just too adventurous of adding extra effort with creating or dealing with molex-barrel plug and riser. That is just me. Again, it will be to someone's preference towards their eGPU setup. Got a last pair from a certain seller of this Rocketstor TB2 at Amazon for 218$ two weeks ago. Current price right now is around $234 +/- The setup is pretty straight forward similar to @Scooter's setup. I removed the 2 molex cables from the two board and replace it with the molex cables from the PSU. I bent the fan section of Rocketstor to accommodate the length of my GTX 970. For the reason that I don't have to remove the board from the case. I'll look for some small and clean enclosure in the future to house my setup. The Hardware Mac Mini Late 2012 on OSX El Capitan 10.11.4 GTX 970 SC 4GB Highpoint Rocketstor 6361A Corsair CX500 (80) Paper clip method Shitty monitor for now After putting the hardware together, I just have to run @goalque's automated eGPU script and everything went smoothly!
  13. @Dschijn maybe I'm wrong..... Im trying to recall my setup when I started with this. Maybe I sold off my TBD and just gotten the LED Cinema version.. I will verify again... Thanks for pointing that out
  14. Edit: @Dschijn is correct. You can't connect TBD to the GPU. I already recalled that I sold my TBD and replaced it with LED Cinema display. My apology. Hi I had a chance to own a 2 TB before. You can connect your two TBD directly to the GPU. You just need to use an adapter for each of the connection (display port to hdmi or dvi) If you connect one TBD to the GPU, and daisy chain the other only the TBD connected to the GPU will utilize the GPU while the daisy chain one, as me tioned above will run as optimus mode.
  15. hopefully akitio would come up similar with the Core integrated PSU or even at least similar with less price.....
  16. wow!!! I'm liking this!!! I'm getting one today and will try the molex setup directly from PSU
  17. Hello Guys! It's good to be back on this forum after 1.3 years! Been away for that long and amazed how the eGPU for Mac had grown! How are you nando and goalque? Anyway, so just lately the Razer Core will be available by April this year. I'm wondering if we can use this as an eGPU option for our apple machines. The core has TB3 port. Some macbook and minis might not have the port. But there's a adapter from Startech/Amazon. Do you think this setup will work? If it does, here's the breakdown of the cost; 1. Core 500$ 2. Adapter 100$ (if you don't have tb3 port) .. that's 600$ Now comparing with Akitio setup of 220$ + PSU = 80$ + cables +20$. That's around 300$ difference. With Core you can use longer GPU and don't have to do some extra stuff laying around (granting that it will work). What do you think??? Hello again to everyone!
  18. Yeah internal screen is a bit low compared with external display. This time score is 9225 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i5-2415M Processor,Apple Inc. Mac-94245B3640C91C81
  19. I did tried that. I have a MyBook Thunderbolt Duo I daisy chain my Akitio. I didn't noticed any difference or impact on the performance on my system. My mac mini and akitio is connected to MyBook Duo 2 TB port.
  20. Hello Guys, So, my MBP 2011 HDD broke down two weeks ago. So I replaced it with my previous HDD from Mac Mini (whom I replaced with SDD). This HDD has a Windows 8.1 bootcamp. I tried to implement the eGPU bootcamp on my Mini before with no success. So I installed the HDD and run OSX, fine. Then, I tried to setup my Bootcamp again with eGPU. So here we go, rebooted my machine to Windows 8.1, GPU was automatically detected and I installed the latest driver. Restarted with external display, and it worked painlessly. Another test I made was to run the eGPU/Bootcamp without the external monitor. It worked as soon as I boot to Windows no extra configurations made. So here you go sharing my benchmark scores. System 2011 13" Macbook Pro : i5-2415M 2.3Ghz, 8GB RAM, HD3000 iGPU Windows 8.1 64-bit UEFI install GTX970 eGPU @ 10Gbps-TB1 via AKiTiO Thunder2 Benchmark Results 3dmark-FS.gpu (internal LCD) = 6739 3dmark-FS (external LCD) = 9225 Unigine gave me 1342 Other screenshots for additional info
  21. You just gave me an idea! So I disconnected my eGPU (AkiTio/GTX970). I created a new Adobe Premiere project and tried to render 13min video and it took me to complete the task for 18mins! Now I connected back my eGPU I'm using Apple Cinema Display, but instead outputting the display from the GPU via display port adapter, I daisy chain my my display and mac mini to Akitio and opened the same project and was able to render the video in just under 3mins! (Note: In the Project Settings I selected the OpenGL Renderer instead of Software Only. I made some previous file modifications in order for premiere to use other listed GPU) Before when I run premiere with this setup Cinema Display=display port adapter=eGPU=thunderbolt cable=AkiTio, my premiere always crash! can't even complete to render or edit a video! Now, If I could only figure out how to select a different GPU for my Steam Game then this is a good indication, I might as well go back to my beloved Thunderbolt Display!!!!! Anyone knows if there are any settings in Steam to select another GPU other than the internal GPU of MBP or Mini?
  22. correct, if you connect your thunderbolt display to akitio it work just fine, it will just daisy chain. What software you are using for 3D rendering? And how do you know if the titan-z is being used during the rendering process? Is there an option on your software to select which gpu to use? try to run the benchmark with and without the GPU and see what is the result. Thanks!
  23. What monitor are your running? Is that a thunderbolt or cinema display? Edit: I just saw you are using Thunderbolt Display. I believe, you are not utilizing your GPU in this setup. If you click the 'About this Mac' you would see the internal GeForce GT 750M as the Graphic display and not the Titan Z. Can you post the screen shot the about information of your MBP?
