  1. Hi. Just unplug the charger and the battery, plus remove the bios battery. Wait a few seconds or a few minutes and your laptop should boot up normally with all EFI back to their defaults and also all its bios settings to their defaults. I've tested this, and it works for me.
  2. Just tested 361.91. Same issue It was something to do with the gtx660m and the fullHD display. Now I have an Asus G46VR motherboard with a gtx760m and I don't have this issue anymore.
  3. Hi. I just thought to share this in a thread with a bit more visibility. I think it can help people with systems where the mPCI slot is harder to access and in case they don't require a delay switch. That is the case of my Asus G46VW without thunderbolt.
  4. In witch games? Some games cap the FPS at 60, some even 30.. FPS capped at 60. But only in directx 11 games or benchmarks, directx 9 runs normally.
  5. Small offtopic My 20€ eGPU adapter. Just a mPCIe to PCIe converter and a mPCIe extender. Same performance and without the rigid and bulky hdmi cable.
  6. Update I tried the same with my GTX680 4GB, but I was unable to make it work with optimus. Either something went wrong, or NVIDIA is not supporting older generation cards. I hope something went wrong because a GTX680 4GB is still a very capable graphics card. And as we know a GTX770 is a GTX680 with a bit faster Ram, so there is no technical reason to limit its use, unless for comercial reasons.... I need to test the GTX680 4GB connected to my Dell E6430 (iGPU only model) with Windows 10 and this new NVIDIA drivers. Update! I tested it and as I thought it doesn't work. I wonder if it was intensional or not, if it wasn't maybe its just a matter of modding the drivers. I have no problems enabling optimus using the same hardware with Windows 8.1 and the same version of the NVIDIA drivers but for windows 8.1.
  7. As far as I know in order to have optimus enabled, one of the requirements is to have a system with the Intel iGPU enabled.
  8. I can confirm it works. Well at least we can use the eGPU to power on the internal screen and we don't need setup1x to disable the dGPU before booting into Windows. I've just tested it in my Asus G46VW using EXP GDC Beast mPCIe. I can have the 660m and 750 2GB on at the same time with drivers 361.82. I was even able to have version 361.75 in the GTX660m while at the same time version 361.82 in the GTX750 2GB. In order to "force" the GTX 750 to power the laptops internal screen all I needed was to disable the 660m in the device manager and restart the laptop. Not restarting would the mean that only the HD4000 would power the laptops internal screen. In my opinion this is a huge improvement compared to what we had before, specially in Windows 10. But on the other hand this should be like this since 2012... I guess its better late then never
  9. I can read 90w in the BIOS. It looks like its an original adapter but It came together with the E6430 that I bought from a seller on eBay so... I don't have another one to compare.
  10. The bios version is A16. So I guess I also have a faulty adapter, just as Dewos. I will try to post a picture of it. I might have never found out, if I didn't upgrade to a 3740QM. My storage: 1TB SSD & 750GB HDD odd caddy. Thanks again Timohour.
  11. I checked and its the same Package Power Limits settings. All I did was power the laptop down and use the other power brick and see the results. And they were very different. Maybe its a faulty power brick, but the hole thing looks too similar to what Dewos reported on page 13 of this post. I will double check if its really a 90W power brick, I know for sure its from Dell. My other power brick is branded by NGS and its also 90W but I'm able to achieve much better results with it. I'm not limited to 46W and 34 multi at best...
  12. Hi Timohour. I used the same settings as suggested by the newbie guide regarding the UFI variables and the TDP. I'm almost sure it is a 90W Dell power brick, I will make sure later. Maybe this affects only a specific part number.... The Throttlestop settings were the same and were used while doing the TS Bench 1024M test. In my setup I use a 3740QM @ 3,9Ghz 4 cores, 16GB 1600 Cas10 and as a eGPU a GTX 750 2GB. Just in case you want to update the specs in the board. Thanks.
  13. Hi, I had the same problem using the standard power brick from the E6430 while using my 3740QM cpu and the 39 multi @ 4 cores. Using Throtlestop I could't get any higher than the 34 multi and the cpu was limited to 46W max. I then used a universal 90W power brick and was able to maintain the 39 multi threw out the test and was able to go up to 59W. This got my attention due to the situation first described by the user Dewos on page 13 of this post. If this is confirmed. In my opinion it is a serious limitation to using the quad core cpus with unlocked turbo bins with the standard 90W Dell power brick.
  14. Hi, Just bought an AsusG46VW from eBay. Unfortunately the board revision is 2.0 so no thunderbolt for me "Edit" Had to replace the powerjack and in the process confirmed that the thunderbolt chip is missing so definitely no thunderbolt for me with this motherboard. I've also added a very small NGFF M.2 B SATA-Based SSD 32GB using a NGFF M.2 B SATA-Based to MSATA Mini Male Converter Card. Its cheap and there is enough room to install it since the converter card is very small and the SSD is even smaller. Unlike with a standard sized MSATA SSD you can even screw it using the notebooks mount, and so everything is secured. 32GB is just about enough for Windows 8.1. I recommend this small mod to anyone that has no problem disassembling this laptop (you will need to completely disassemble it). Your boot times will decrease dramatically and Windows will fell a lot faster due to the SSDs much lower access times. The 32GB mean that you may need to disable Windows hibernation (and get around 10GB free SDD space) and also need to install most of your apps/games in the 750GB hard drive and also move the page file to it. Both the SSD and the converter were bought on eBay for the total amount of 26€. Best cost/benefit ratio I ever got from upgrading a laptop. With a modded bios I got some thunderbolt options. Is it just because its unlocked and so it shows all the options or does it mean my motherboard has thunderbolt? "Edit" Its just because the bios is unlocked. Is there any sure way of buying a thunderbolt motherboard? And if so, from where? Any recommended FHD displays for it? Already saw a few references in the forum but its hard to decide witch one to buy. I've posted this in another thread related to the G46 but the author of that one doesn't seem to be active in this forum. Any way sorry for the double post. Thanks in advanced.

  16. Try searching on ebay for "34 to 54 stabilizer". Did you set the TOLUD value using UEFI variables?
  17. I'm always happy to contribute My cpu is a 3630QM and I can confirm that once I add JEDEC timmings @ 1866, all I have to do is shutdown and start again and the memory automatically runs at 1866. A simple Windows 8.1 restart doesn't change the Ram settings. I was unable to get the laptop to boot with any of the Ram modules at 2133 (tested 4 different modules). All of them were 1,50v and manufactured before 2014. The 8GB modules are from 2012. Maybe that's why I can't get more than 1866 @ dual or single channel? Or its my 3630QMs memory controller? This was tested using bios A16. Here is a picture of the weak Ram module. @sagemaru The UEFI variables stick until you remove both the laptops battery and CMOS battery. Please check my post at the top of the previous page for more details about that.
  18. Hey guys. Sorry to intervene. I've recently upgraded my bios to A16 and I can still use UEFI variables to enable Raid0, change TOLUD and select XMP Ram profiles. eGPU still works without issues. Tested in Windows 8.1 x64 using EC.
  19. Thanks timohour. I forgot that I also own a PE4L-PM060A. Maybe this one is easier to mod? I can provide photos if you think that helps. Already have my Dell E6430 (iGPU only/900p/Bios A16) I had to use uefi variables to unlock raid0 . As expected the variable that needs to be changed is different from the one of the E6440 = "0x19D". So in my case E6430 = "0x12D". And had to use them again to set up TOLUD in order to use eGPU. Using Thaiphoon Burner I've purchased Thaiphoon Burner but I was unlucky. It turns out that one of my "cheap" Ram modules from 2012 (8GB Kingston 1600 CAS11) is a bit weak and only lets me lower the CAS to 10. At 1866 the E6430 wont boot, even with another module installed and with different CAS settings. The other module has no problems with 1866. I can set XMP profiles for both of them or even JEDEC. Some other modules I've tested only allow me to create XMP profiles. With other Ram modules (2x4GB) I managed to get 1866 working in dual channel. Thaipoon Burner is very easy to use and at least in my case if I use uefi variables to load a XMP profile that the Ram cannot handle, all I had to do was remove the battery and disconnect the CMOS battery, reconnect after a few seconds and the uefi variables revert to their default values, as would the bios settings. So I had to set them all again, including the one that allows me to use Raid0. Once this was done I got my system back and running without any more problems. Keep in mind that this was in my case. I can't be made responsible if this doesn't work with another system. I want to play with the other uefi variables when I get a chance, and I will update this post with my progress. Thanks to everyone that made this mods possible.
  20. Hi timohour, Thanks for your reply. Its a iGPU model. I will probably keep this system for two or tree years. I don't think I will be able to afford a new system anytime soon. I have a good desktop for gaming. Its not the latest thing but Its still very capable. I7 990x, Rampage 3 Gene and 12GB DDR3 1600. I get a kick at playing around with this eGPU stuff, I like it better than actually playing games. Soldering skills wouldn't be a problem as they are a requirement at my current job and I need to practice. If I manage to sell my 3630QM locally I will try to buy a 3720QM or higher. Would a 3920XM make any sense in a E6430 or is the max recommend cpu a 3840QM due to its lower TDP? I have a EXP GDC v.6 and a Beast, both of them EC. The Beast can be turned into mPCIe. The cable is reasonably cheap and easy to get. Would that help in any way? Thanks for your input.
  21. I've already ordered my E6430 with 1600*900 screen (just because of this thread), can't wait to get it. But its kinda hard having to say goodbye to my 2570p. I don't think I will see a huge performance increase as I "only" have a 3630QM cpu. But I'm hoping the E6430 cooling will handle the quad core cpu better as it supports 45w TDP without problems. Any chance of someone posting a guide on how to build your own eGpu adapter that supports x2 2.0 and works well with the E6430, because I already own two EXP GDC and a PE4C v2.1 is a bit expensive in Europe.
  22. Anyone else having trouble generating a working dsdt file in windows 10 pro 64? I've compared the file with one I came up with for windows 8.1 pro 64, I did the same things and get zero errors at the end but unlike with win 8.1 the gtx 750 ti doesn't detect any displays connected to it. I even updated the bios from the 2570p to the latest version available. After the update my old dsdt file still works in win 8.1, but any new file generated for win 10 still doesn't. I use bios in uefi mode.
  23. Hi haro, A) the dock has a buton to power on the laptop and it works even with laptops lid closed. I can even boot with my eGPU solution with the EC inserted without any problems, never opening the laptops lid. I've only used it for the past two months and I don't have any cooling problems. My 2570p has a 3630QM in it. But its winter time here...
  24. Hi Kamerplant, Did you plug in the auxiliar power cable to the 8800GT? Since you are using an AC adapter maybe you forgot. Also the AC adapter should be 12v but I'm not an expert on that... I used a 8800GT for a short amount of time while testing eGPU setups and It was more prome to issues than newer generation cards.
  25. So did you find information about F.50 not being compatible with an eGPU setup? When I read about it people were just wondering if it was or not. So it wasn't clear. Maybe you just got a faulty PE4C. There is a thread in the forum about the newer versions of the PE4C 2.0 and 2.1.
