  1. Well that's interesting.

The 880M modded vbios is actually LOWER voltage than my stock vbios.

I had my cards replaced and at stock, the master was using 1.012v for 992.9 and the slave was using 1.018v for 992.9

The mod uses 1v for 992.9 on both cards.

I ran Valley for 20 minutes with auto fans, max temp 87C on both cards, fan curve kicked in and kicked the master down to 80C and the slave to 82C.

Gonna throw Sleeping Dogs at it and see what happens.

Also, my clocks are dropping back to 2D levels like they are supposed to. I'm confused, this wasn't happening before with the modded vbios, not sure what changed. I'm using the nVidia 340 series driver.

    EDIT:

    Here's Sleeping Dogs first

    Here's Bioshock Infinite immediately after

    1z2qh5t.png

No throttling and I had auto fans, max temp was 88C on the slave, 87C on the master.

Here's HWInfo for the whole session (note that the average temp is going to be off because it was a few minutes after I stopped gaming when Bioshock crashed (most likely not related to anything, that game just crashes occasionally).

It seems I owe @svl7 an apology for claiming his vbios was the problem. The old cards were simply defective from the start. No doubt the temps would be a few degrees lower if I had the fans on max but the point of this test was to see if the system is indeed capable of dissipating 125W worth of 880M without a) crossing into the 90s and B) needing max fans and c) without locking 3D clocks 24/7 - it passed on all 3 counts.

  2. i know its wrong topic but, i bought the 330w to overclock and it shutdown while 3dmark the LED turn off on the PSU and laptop run on battery whats wrong? with 240w it works, the bios can see the psu as 330w so i think everything should work..

SLI? Because 1.08v will overload my system with turbo boost turned off even when I run 3dmark 11 - 330W is not enough to run high voltage SLI overclocks. You definitely tripped the overload protection in that adapter so either it's faulty or you're over 330W

  3. Just so everyone knows and doesn't freak out like I did, I sent my Sager in for warranty service with the Clevo "Style Note" BIOS because I didn't have a Sager branded stock 9377 BIOS and they didn't say a thing about it, replaced my video cards and shipped it back to me. Will be interesting to see if it comes back with a Sager BIOS installed though, I get it tomorrow.

How do we dump the BIOS so I can back it up this time if it comes with a Sager BIOS? I will be flashing the mod back as soon as I get the machine plugged back in but I need to know in case I have any more 880M issues (hoping not).

  4. Any place to buy 330W cheap one? I'm using Clevo chassis.

Cheapest I've seen for one is 150 at laptop Parts Now but it doesn't specify if that's an oem power supply or not.

Does your machine have the standard 4 pin? Because you probably would be fine with the 220W power supply.

I would contact your reseller and see what they can do but generally you will get stuck paying 160-180 for the brick.

  5. I asked Prema about the 780m's and yes he told me they would be plug and play. My P377SM barebones is coming on Monday and I'll be putting GTX 780m's in them. As it happens though, I am flush with 780m's (I have somehow ended up with 4 of them) and I have a pair of spares should you wish to buy some.

Let me see what happens with my machine. I don't know how long Sager will have it, it's already been a week and I haven't heard anything.

If I'm still having issues with the 880M after they replace that card, I will definitely be on the market for new cards whether they be 780M or 980M.

At the rate Sager is going I'll have my laptop back in September... :/

  6. Master card uses ic7 slave use liquid

I did that and it made the temps rise the same between them but the slave still couldn't handle the load and dropped clocks like mad.

    Look here

    7uqe6y9e.jpg

No reason with temps like that the slave should be throttled.

This isn't the place to talk about it though. I sent it to Sager, they've had it for a week so hopefully I get a new 880M and don't have a problem.

  7. My gpus run in original vbios

880M original vbios sucks. The policies are so tight that my slave GPU runs down to 888MHz which drags the master down from 954MHz.

Sager has it right now because the slave card appeared to fail the other day (right down to not being able to monitor temps and GPU-Z reading revision FF) and then started working again so I am having them replace that card. Hopefully that fixes it and I don't have to do anything else.

  8. No you do not change the bios on the cards! They will work without any extra effort.

Also the p377sm has better cooling than the aw18 due to the aw18 bios not ramping up the fan speed like it should as parts get hot. There is something physically wrong with your laptop if the gpus are overheating.

From what I'm reading the AW18 fan profiles were fixed for the most part??

The heatsinks in the P377SM-A are trash, particularly the slave heatsink. Contact pressure is terrible on the GPU and CPU both so even Liquid Ultra is of limited use on them (on my 4940MX, I couldn't use liquid ultra at all because there is such poor contact that I would tighten down the heatsink and remove it and the little bubbles that the CLU makes in the middle of the CPU were exactly the same as were the ones on the heatsink).

So if I get a pair of Dell 780M they will work without a vbios flash? Because if that's the case I'm going to see if I can pick up a pair of those if my machine isn't functioning correctly when Sager sends it back. That's a much cheaper option than buying a new machine. I just wasn't sure the P377SM-A BIOS supported them. I know Clevo BIOS has to actually have support for the card or it won't POST.

  9. Hi Prema,

Does the BIOS for P377SM-A include support for the 7xx nVidia GPUs? 765M or 780M? These 880M cards have to go or they need to be put in a machine that can actually keep them cool so I'm thinking about buying a barebones Alienware 18 and swapping the parts from my Clevo into my 18 and the 18 parts into the Clevo. I'm sure I'd have to flash the Dell card with a Clevo vbios but does the P377SM-A BIOS even have support for the older 7xx cards?

    Thanks

  10. svl7,

I have your modded vBIOS, i've tried disabling driver enforcement, i've tried the -bcdedit trick, i've tried safemode, and I cannot get 340.52 to install. It says something about the card not being recognized. I presume this is due to the modded vBIOS. What should I do? (And if the answer is to flash the vBIOS to stock just to install a new driver, and do that every single time... it's gonna be really sucky)

340 drivers are not worth upgrading to anyway. Rule of thumb with nVidia drivers lately - don't update if everything works. Those drivers aren't even faster than the 337.88

  11. THank you for your awnsers.

Let me explain the issuee a little more. The system is not overclocked. I get temps while playing of 94º for the sli config and 90 around for the processor.

Temps are not an issue here since I get frozen like 5 min after starting a game, and sometimes nothing. its random. Also, I have that boot problem, so I guess temps are not affecting. It should be some hardware/software conflict. But since I get boot problems, it leads to hardware problem for sure. Maybe temps are affecting, maybe drivers, maybe the power supply.

    Any idea?

    thank you!!!

Also, the QWER part of the laptop gets crazy hot while playing. The cable is attached next to the hot zone. So I think that is affecting the LAN hardware since sometimes I get random disconnections.

Really, this clevo laptops sometimes are a huge headache....

  12. Hi guys ...

I've got a GT60 0NC with a GTX780M. Since I had constant frame crashes, I have Nvidia GTX 780m - 'OC edition' - rev02.zip flashed from here. The notebook but will not start now ... the post screen comes and there where right Dynaudio & Intel is running, ne sequence-number ... 99 B4 92 and then the unit will remain standing and freezes at 92!

In the thread there is extra, which should work on MSI cards ...

How can I fix the error now?

Stick the card in another machine and reflash with the correct vbios or solder the chip. 92 refers to PCI bus initialization if I remember correctly. It doesn't recognize your card anymore.

  13. Awesome mate. I really appreciate your topic (review) on it and your tips and Prema's regarding osx. I am happy with mine too. Works flawlessly since day one, don't have a single complain about it :D

    A big hug

Just keep in mind if you try OSX, there's a lot that has to be worked around. The flag let's it boot but that's all it does, you have to do a lot of work to install it then you have to do more work to get graphics since nVidia drivers will make a black screen. That flag just fixes the kernel auto reboot issue so the kernel doesn't need a patch but everything else does.

As for the machine I'm happy with it for now. The modded vbios does push temps up too high for comfort but the stock vbios does a great job managing the temps without a huge performance issue in games.

And while it's not a great overclocker the CPU is plenty fast for everything I do with it.

Glad you are enjoying yours as well!

Let's not derail Prema's thread anymore though, take care.

  14. Mate are you happy with your Sager now? Or still planing to change to the 570?

Enviado do meu SM-N9005 através de Tapatalk

Totally happy with it. I've got Windows 8.1 on one msata, OSX on the other, and two 1TB storage drives, all my games are fine so I don't have to worry about overclocking right now, I love my 120hz screen, and it's still portable.

There are limitations but the trade offs in the 570 are silly for me right now when I have a desktop I can play with if I have things this machine can't do. To be honest though now that I have OSX, there isn't anything the desktop can do the laptop can't other than some higher benchmarks due to 4.4GHz CPU

  15. Yep that was it, thanks Prema! Now I need to work out getting the display to work with the nVidia drivers. Nice to know it treats the 880M as a 680M, it just doesn't initialize eDP by default since there are no 3D macs. I'll get it fixed though, awesome! Everyone should just have you make the bios for them, it really makes the machine twice as useful!
