  1. I had the same problem… I gave up. Which GTX 970 is it? Which MBPr?
  2. No idea… maybe sth broke when you smelled that burn smell. Have you installed the latest Nvidia Web drivers? Can you test in Windows?
  3. FireStrike Graphics Score: 6739 seems to be a bit low, but still fine. Maybe because of TB1.
  4. You need one of this three options to start your ATX (computer) PSU: - paperclip trick - PSU adapter (bridge), same purpose as the paperclip trick just inside a plug - SWEX, same but with a switch to make it more comfortable
  5. Well you need to do the paperclip trick to start the ATX PSU… without that the GPU doesn't get power, right?
  6. There might have been the problem of ground loops. Electricity trying to flow through the PCIe slot as there are two ground "sources" (the AKiTiO PSU and the ATX PSU).
  7. Sweet, but they should have (at least) uploaded the video with a higher (60FPS) refreshrate. With that the higher FPS would have been even more visible. Still waiting to see more details about the setup in hardware and configuration in Windows (if there is any).
  8. Can you make a fresh instalation of OSX onto an external drive? Maybe there is just a little mistake in your current OS.
  9. No. The case is in that shape. You can only unsrew the PCB from the case and use it without the case at all.
  10. Will update the main post after work. Try to avoid more confusion. Problem was: I wasn't passioned enough to finish the post, because my GTX 970 wasn't a good card. Had 2 MSI cards and 2 EVGA cards so far (3rd card is on the way to me now, so I am without a card again). All of them had coil whine or coil buzzing issues. Even in my (old) main desktop PC rig. Bottomline is: EVGA card and @Evo* guide are now working perefectly in Windows 8.1. Optimus. Most important it is working from a cold boot and a shut down/boot. Had trouble in OSX with the eGPU and not using it in OSX now (seems to be a mid 2014 MBPr problem?).
  11. Also be aware that the PSU has to have some load when turned on. Don't just simply turn the PSU on without anything using the power. At least a fan or sth... I am using this "bridge" to start my PSU. Imho cheap and "safe": Caseking.de » Netzteile » Netzteil-Zubehör » Bitspower 20 PIN ATX - Überbrückungsstecker
  12. A SWEX for the case fan? I don't get it… I directly attached the the fan to the PSU. And the PSU is working as soon as I switch it on because I use sth like the paperclip trick.
  13. Can you please try without the AKiTiO power supply, if you are using the powered riser! Do not use powered riser + AKiTiO PSU at the same time.
  14. SWEX, Paperclip trick or a plug doing the same job as the Paperclip. All the same.
  15. That are pretty much the same results I got with my 15" and GTX 970 (external screen, EVGA GTX 970 FTW)! The problem with the internal screen is that data has to go from the MacBook to the GTX 970 (by TB) and back again (by TB) into the MacBook to be displayed on the Retina screen. Because the 1st step is working totally on the TB2 limit, the 2nd step isn't making it better.
  16. That score doesn't look bad! First we should make clear to talk about the Graphics Score. In your case: 8064. The 7397 is more of the final overall score! Your graphics score of 8000 is fine and more or less the same value I experienced with my first setup. I got a graphics score of 8700 but with a good portion of overclocking and an increased power target of 110%. You must keep in mind that you are measuring your internal screen performance, which is achived via the Optimus feature. The performance loss of using the internal screen vs. using an external screen is 10%. In my case: internal screen 8700 vs external screen 9700 points. You can read about that in my guide (with my "old" 13" MBPr which is already replaced by an 15" one): http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides/7879-%5Bguide%5D-2013-13-macbook-pro-gtx970%4016gbps-tb2-akitio-thunder2-win8-1-osx10-10-a.html
  17. Hm 7300 is really low… Can you monitor your CPU and GPU load and temperatures?
  18. I had the same thought… might be possible if you could assign Thunderbolt periphery exclusively to Parallels. I am just aware that it is possible with USB/FW.
