  1. i'm in toronto and eurocom is in ottawa. since i don't have a driver's license or even a car i don't think i would go there by car just for a 980M nor would i take a train to Ottawa since it costs $44 just for a one way trip so in my case getting it couriered is the better option i'll wait till after you order and receive yours to see if hidevolution is worth buying from, otherwise i'll go with eurocom for the sake of being within the same province as me.
  2. i wonder if that's why i was having issues with switching to optimus from dedicated because i was using UEFI? either way i may have to conceit the ability to use adaptive vsync if i go with optimus mode. EDIT: I am also comparing the prices between Eurocom (which is in Canada - Ottawa to be precise so in the same province as I am) and Hidevolution (based in the California) and will see what the gap is. if i went with HIDevolution it would cost me about $1217.86 CAD and that includes all the provincial tax. if i went with eurocom it would be $1270 CAD after tax. so it's only a $50 CAD price gap.
  3. for me it was... Win 7 + BIOS Win 8.1 + BIOS Win 8,1 + UEFI <<< Current install set up. from what i was told the 980M (only) works when the AW17 is using UEFI and it's not that hard to set up in the BIOS. I would prefer to do a full reinstall over the doing a conversion of the current OS install cos i think the OS conversion might have issues.
  4. no, it came with windows 7 but i upgraded to windows 8.1.
  5. and i'll be interested in seeing how that goes for you even though i am windows 8.1.
  6. that doesn't sound hopeful for me and my AW17 (R1). i wonder if it has to do with the BIOS being different between all the models and some work better than others but still not 100% like clevo. Sounds like you're not going to be happy if you need to buy Windows 8.1
  7. So people with single GPU laptops are somewhat better off than those on SLI?
  8. i wonder if they'll be separate drivers for single GPU laptops and SLI laptops because it seems that needs more work than single GPU laptops and need different drivers altogether.
  9. ok, good to know. my 780m does come into effect when playing games so i know my optimus system works regardless but i'll check those options when i cross that bridge. let us know how your experience with hidevolution is.
  10. no no, i mean the core voltage slider for the GPU, i can't change it while in optimus mode but in dedicated i can....probably because the GPU is not "awake" while in optimus mode. my GPU's core voltage is set to 1.062v in dedicated but all my OC settings get removed when in optimus mode. EDIT: if loosing adaptive vsync is the only caveat then so be it!
  11. still 347.09 and i have issues with accessing the voltage slider in Precision X when i am in optimus mode, but in dedicated mode it's fine.
  12. if i stick with optimus then yeah will probably have to make hwinfo64 wake the GPU at boot.
  13. good to hear, i suggest getting windows 8.1 if there's issues with windows 7....just sayin'!
  14. This is only for sli laptops or for single card laptops as well?
  15. oh ok, but the whole time i was assuming there's no 3d support anyway cos i don't have a 3D display.
  16. Then I have no idea how they are claiming about getting an alienware 17 to run with a 980M and a 120hz display!
  17. i just hope the driver issues get resolved soon cos this is the thing that's hinging on me getting the 980M. EDIT: doesn't hidevolution have drivers? anyone tried those?
  18. bookmarked and looking forward to seeing people's results EDIT: hopefully newer drivers will come out by the time i get the 980M.
  19. so waiting for that eureka moment! EDIT: also how specific do the drivers need to be like "here's a driver for AW17 using 980M, a driver for the AW17 using the 970M"?
