  1. hey EMC, yes, i know about that. i only want turbo boost to work as it's intended to. and i'm asking for p170hm bios only because it's done already (and possibility of adjusting memory timings might be considered as a bonus).
  2. Dear Prema, i've read on nbr forums that you made a custom P170HM bios with increased tdp values (80w short term, 70w long term, 32s TB duration). as i own an outdated p150hm machine with 2860qm and i recently bought 240w psu, i'd love to squeeze maximum performance from what i have. so could you please provide me with that p170hm 70W_80W_32s bios? p.s. sent you pm a whil ago, but not sure whether you saw it ;]
  3. hmm, i see other people complaining about low gpu usage and therefore low fps in wot and gw2 too. that is mainly due to these games are not optimized to utilize 8 cpu threads. so the problem seems to be not with your 680m after all :] by "unparking processors cores" you mean that you flashed bios with increased tdp values, right? as for em platform @Prema got 780m somewhat working with it and will probably make modified vbios available to the public in the near future.
  4. it's hard to say, every card has different capabilities. you should pay attention to two things when overclocking: temps and stability. 90-92 °C is deemed to be still acceptable under full load for hours (however, if temp should exceed that value on the stock vbios it would get throttled so there's no point in pushing further unless you improve your cooling system). @Tonrac managed to get his 680m working stable under 853 mhz with stock vbios (which is maximum) and under 1005 mhz with overvolted vbios (1.0v) so these are the values you should aim for. but with such high clocks there might be a problem when your psu might not be able to provide enough power. all should clear itself up when you do some testing though. gradually increase your clocks, run some tests/games after each step and be sure to monitor your temps and you should be fine!
  5. @RWNinja: have you tried installing older drivers? situation you described above made me somewhat unsettled now as i've just bought 680m from eurocom myself. long 3 weeks of waiting ahead
  6. @Tonrac: hey, thanks for all of the effort with testing and pics of your modded backplate. definitely gonna try it out when my 680m will arrive. i have a question as i'm running p150hm with 2860qm myself: could you please give me a link to the bios modded by @Prema for P150HM/2860QM couple you mentioned here?
  7. update, if anyone reads this: i've found a post on some other forum out there that confirms only revision 1.2 of 7970m works with p1x0hm machines. i've asked upgradeyourlaptop on ebay whether they were planning to restock upgrade kits for p1x0hm and they replied that the required cards were no more available from the manufacturer. so i ended up with buying 680m instead.
  8. hey, sorry, i'm a bit late in convo, but i have the same situation here: my 6990m is dying and i considered swapping it with 7970m. there's one thing that is unclear to me and this issue was brought into attention in the other thread out there (but it doesn't seem to be active any more). the question is: whether only 7970m v1.2 clevo cards work with p1x0hm (by "work" i mean they can be blind-flashed with the correct vbios in the first place) or v1.1 should be compatible too? as things stand i don't see v1.2 on ebay, only this and some dell ones. so i guess i need some advice from experienced members. thanks in advance!
