If anyone is willing to take huge risks.. such as desoldering the cpu..
the 2617m processor uses the BGA 1023 socket.
The highest performance i7 that is compatible with this socket is a quad core-8 thread, and here is a comparison between it (3615QE) and the 2617m
Intel Core i7-2617M vs i7-3615QE
The largest concerns I would have while attempting such a crazy project is
The jump in power from 17W to 45W
An incompatibility with the motherboard, or destruction of the motherboard
Battery life going out the window from massive loss
Bios issues
That said, it would be an insanely awesome project if it works! No1 has tried it, Im offering this idea out there for someone who hopefully would be crazy enough to try it! If you found a way to declock the processor, that could help? I wish my m11x R3 was a quad core 8 threaded mighty little machine
