12.5" HP Elitebook 2570P Owner's Lounge
Tech Inferno Fan replied to Tech Inferno Fan's topic in HP Business Class Notebooks
SATA routed from the docking connector to the WWAN slot would be superb. Did you isolate pin 36+38 (USB) on the mSATA card? I believe some have an onboard USB controller to allow them to be used as USB. If detected as USB in the WWAN slot then it will give the bios unauthorized device screen.- 1882 replies

eGPU and external SSD on the other tb port
Tech Inferno Fan replied to Ovchar's topic in Apple eGPU discussion
The performance issue is due to the 16Gbps-TB2 port being shared between the eGPU and RAID storage When playing 4k on premier you are sharing the 16Gbps TB2 bandwidth with your RAID Thunderbolt 2 G-Drive causing a massive decrease in eGPU performance. You can see this if you copy your movie to the onboard SSD storage, disconnect your G-Drive and then play the movie to the eGPU. There the full 16Gbps TB2 link will be provided to the eGPU. The bad news is Apple do not have a current Macbook product where any TB2 ports get a full exclusive 16Gbps per port. Eg: if you upgraded to say the 15" MBP with 2x TB2 ports, those ports are shared across the same bus so will still be sharing a 16Gbps (x4 2.0) upstream bus across each port. More details at https://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides-apple/8585-2014-15-macbook-pro-2x-r9_280x%4016gbps-tb2-netstor-na211tb-win8-1-osx-%5Bgoalque%5D-2.html#post117339 Fixes for this shared bandwidth issue So then what's needed is to move your storage and eGPU on separate interfaces. Is there a RAID USB 3.0 product <strike>or can you host your image on network-attached storage (NAS)</strike>? @apple, giving no LAN port is ridiculous. Unless you require OSX you may want to look at other high performance TB2/TB3 notebooks with less hardware restrictions (ie: 100Gbps LAN, PCIe storage, optical drives) by HP/Dell/Lenovo/Acer. @invait53, nice work. Something I too wanted to do when I had the 2570P. I've editted the post with more clarity on what I believe you've done there. Pls check and edit again if needed. I've also linked you from the opening post. It would help to understand the process if perhaps the last photo was your BCM94352HMB installed in the wifi slot with some of the underlying added wiring visible.

Can you confirm that you wires the docking connector USB pins to a Bluetooth USB hub first. Confirmed it gets detected and works and then you soldered those docking connector USB pins to the wifi slots pin 36+38 (USB) so your BCM94352HMB's wifi card's onboard USB bluetooth now works?

2012 15" MBP GT650M: Intel HD4000 under Windows?
Tech Inferno Fan replied to TheMaxXHD's topic in Apple eGPU discussion
Correct on all counts except the first trial run test you'd be wanting the HD4000 to connect to the internal LCD AND have the GT650M active. That's because then the GT650M would provide the accelerated internal LCD mode via NVidia Optimus. The Apple firmware isn't routing the internal LCD that way when booting Windows. Instead, it's attaching the internal LCD to the GT650M. NVidia Optimus only works if the Intel HD is wired to the internal LCD. If can get that to work then it's just a matter of disabling the GT650M and have a NVidia eGPU provide the acceleration instead. As mentioned, the critical point here is to get the HD4000 working as the GPU that's attached to the internal LCD. Something that hasn't been achieved as yet. -
2012 15" MBP GT650M: Intel HD4000 under Windows?
Tech Inferno Fan replied to TheMaxXHD's topic in Apple eGPU discussion
You don't have to buy any hardware yet. See if you can get the HD4000 working under Windows. If yes, then you can have a GT650M accelerated Optimus internal LCD mode. If can't get that working, then the best you have is moving Windows apps started on the eGPU across to the GT650M attached internal LCD. -
2012 15" MBP GT650M: Intel HD4000 under Windows?
Tech Inferno Fan replied to TheMaxXHD's topic in Apple eGPU discussion
Internal LCD mode hasn't been done as yet on the 2012 15" MBP under Windows. The reason is that the a working iGPU wired to the internal LCD hasn't been possible to activate on that model. Eg: Shelltoe's attempt at http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides-apple/2367-2012-15-macbook-pro-retina-gtx560ti%408gbps-tb1-th05-win8-1-%5Bshelltoe%5D.html However, since then there has been some success activating the iGPU on the 2013+ GT750M model at http://forum.techinferno.com/apple-egpu-discussion/8717-%5Bguide%5D-enabling-intel-iris-pro-hd5200-win8-1-15-macbook-pro-gt750m.html If you can do the same as done there then all that's needed is to disable the GT650M to have the NVidia driver activate Optimus accelerated internal LCD mode. Until then the best you can do is drag windowed apps ran on the eGPU attached LCD to the internal LCD (powered by the GT650M). There's a workaround to eliminate the external LCD (Chung-gun or Ultramon) by using a dummy VGA plug to create a phantom external LCD. -

Error 43 can be due to eGPU initialization issues or drivers. If you have a NVidia dGPU then clear all driver remnants out and use "DDU" to clear registry. If done that and still error 43 then double-check ALL your power to the video card. If hotplugging after boot use the delay sliders on your eGPU adapter instead. If using a mPCIe eGPU then also refer to http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/11393-mpcie-egpu-troubleshooting-steps.html -
JMR Electronics Lightning Enclosures

US$1399!! These guys are dreaming. These multi-slot options are better value: http://forum.techinferno.com/enclosures-adapters/7872-us%24979-sonnet-echo-express-iii-d-enclosure-16gbps-tb2.html http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides-apple/8199-2013-13-macbook-pro-gtx980%4016gbps-tb2-netstor-na211tb-win8-1-osx10-10-%5Bgoalque.html Just be mindful that @squinks' SLI Macbook eGPU implementations reverted to single slots due to booting problems. That's because these 3-slot devices use an extra PCIe bridge to share out the PCie link to 3 slots. There's also @nesone's dual TITAN_Z implementation using AKiTiO Thunder2 boxes: http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides-apple/7326-2013-13-macbook-pro-gtx780ti-sli%4016gbps-tb2-sonnet-ee-sel-win8-1-%5Bsquinks%5D.html#post100318 http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides-apple/8579-2013-13-macbook-pro-2-x-titan_z%4016gbps-tb2-akitio-thunder2-osx10-10-%5Bnesone%5D.html#post116923 In which case you might want to look at: http://forum.techinferno.com/enclosures-adapters/7205-us%24189-akitio-thunder2-pcie-box-16gbps-tb2.html http://forum.techinferno.com/enclosures-adapters/9638-us%24233-highpoint-rocketstor-6361a-pcie-chassis-16gbps-tb2.html http://forum.techinferno.com/enclosures-adapters/7633-us%24314-sonnet-echo-express-sel-16gbps-tb2.html @goalque successully used 2x R9_280X cards in a Netstor NA211TB http://forum.techinferno.com/implementation-guides-apple/8585-2014-15-macbook-pro-2x-r9_280x%4016gbps-tb2-netstor-na211tb-win8-1-osx-%5Bgoalque%5D.html#post117016 -

eGPU experiences [version 2.0]
Tech Inferno Fan replied to Tech Inferno Fan's topic in DIY e-GPU Projects
Ensure you are using Setup 1.30 to downgrade the link rather than any BIOS settings or any earlier versions of that software. Check it's downgraded within Windows using GPU-Z while placing the eGPU under load. It should report x1 1.1 rather than x1 2.0. If that's the case then the Setup 1.30 configuration is all OK and the issue is elsewhere: eGPU adapter, video card, PSU. You can still downclock the card and set lower power limits using MSI Afterburner before swapping/replacing hardware. -
eGPU experiences [version 2.0]
Tech Inferno Fan replied to Tech Inferno Fan's topic in DIY e-GPU Projects
The usual fix for this is to downgrade your link from Gen2 to Gen1 using Setup 1.30's PCIe Ports->Gen1 menu. If still unreliable then look at testing individual components in your eGPU hardware chain: eGPU adapter, video card, PSU. Have heard other less common reasons for this fault: one user saying the fridge turning on caused a power spike. Another plugging in their mouse caused some power/chipset spike. -

eGPU experiences [version 2.0]
Tech Inferno Fan replied to Tech Inferno Fan's topic in DIY e-GPU Projects
PCI compaction and changes to Chainloader->mode are automatically saved to startup.bat Any other functions hit F3 (says F3-!Save in status line) after then to add the equivalent command to startup.bat. -
When you run a PCI compaction it will automatically add a 'call pci' to your startup.bat. It's saved there already! If you change chainloader->mode it's automatically updated in the startup.bat. Any other menu functions need to have F3 hit after then to add them to startup.bat, as shown at the bottom status bar "F3 - !Save". Eg: if you do a PCIe Ports->Gen2, then hit F3 after the command to add it to your startup.bat. Then when you boot Setup 1.30, just select the default "Automatic startup via startup.bat" to re-run all the set of commands you've saved in startup.bat.
-
You do not have to do the booting via option 3 every time. Just ensure your startup.bat contains the following, which you can hand enter by booting Setup 1.30 -> menu-based -> startup.bat->Edit call speedup lbacache call iport dGPU off call vidwait 60 if NOT '%eGPU%'=='' goto OS call wait_e 5 "eGPU not found!!" :OS call chainload MBR As for your problem with bootup stalling refer to the following thread that explains how to bypass BIOS detection of the eGPU: http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/11393-mpcie-egpu-troubleshooting-steps.html The CTD/PTD delay functions are independent of the ATX PSU being permanently on.

eGPU experiences [version 2.0]
Tech Inferno Fan replied to Tech Inferno Fan's topic in DIY e-GPU Projects
You only have a very small PCIe config space aperture locked in by the BIOS of 3.00-3.258. It isn't possible to get an iGPU+eGPU working with that, long with say the NVidia Optimus accelerated internal LCD mode dependenant on the iGPU working. You'll need a DSDT override to get it all working. Or if using Win8.1 can use Setup 1.30 software to hijaak the iGPU space and cause error 12 against the iGPU instead of the eGPU. This is only a partial solution. DSDT override is the better way to go. -

At the bottom of Setup 1.30 -> menu-based is printed "F3 - Save". So Hit F3 after a command to add it to your startup.bat. The software also comes with context sensitive help. Hit F1 over a menu to get help on it. The function keys including F3 are also explained there.
