I managed to brick my laptop with an incorrect mod. I believe I flashed the v801 mod on a v800 machine.
Could someone please post the unlocked bios screens or the menu structure so that I might attempt a blind reflash ? I assume I would have to re-enable legacy support, enable usb boot again and try to reflash.
Exact same thing happened to me. If you're still under warranty just send it back to Lenovo. They will replace your motherboard as they did mine.

do you got a Y580? and wich BIOS version do you have?
I have a Y480 and after I had it repaired because I bricked it with a BIOS here, it came back with version 8.02. I dumped it and sent it to him hoping for a new mod. That was in November.
-
Will svl7 ever return to this thread? I was in contact with him some months ago about modding my newer BIOS and he never got back to me.
-
Hello @svl7. I sent you my 8.02 BIOS some time ago. Have you had an opportunity to look at it?
-
I figured out why your SPDIF light is always on, @sergioosh: You don't have the Realtek drivers installed. I was messing around and uninstalled them myself and with Windows running the show, SPDIF light is always on. However, Windows still doesn't route audio to the digital out unless I set it as default. Can you test that for me?
-
Okay, I will happily do that. Just use FPTW64 as is or am I able to strip my Windows serial number?
-
Can I image it for you? Would you be able to mod it for me?
-
Hmm... Got my computer back today, came with BIOS version 8.02. Now what? Are you there, svl7?
-
No I didn't hold the buttons that long. I was under the impression it was more immediate. After the reboot it was back to its vegetative state. So you were able to unbrick it this way? I also wonder where people learned about Fn + B/R since it's not on Lenovo's site or manuals.
-
Shouldn't the key combo be the same for the Y480/Y580? I don't suppose this info is published anywhere. I have tried that procedure Fn + B as well as R and I got what you described: the fan blew at 100%, no keyboard light, still nothing onscreen. Sometimes it would reboot itself after doing that. I've tried with the variously named QIWY(3, 4, 3207)(.rom, .bin) and it would never work. I tried it also with the file from the BIOS upgrade Lenovo has on their site. It seemed not to even try the flash drive. Thanks for trying to help me. Here's hoping I don't brick it next time because the Centrino 2200-N card blows.

I did everything in my power to repair it myself. When booting in any mode the screen never activated, not even the backlight. The unit never searched attached flash drives (they never blinked), but there was bus power. Something was severely ruined, possibly the bootblock. The only misstep I can identify was my using svl7's 8.01 mod when my BIOS was 8.00. I was using Windows 8.1 but Lenovo has not released an update on their site. I don't know what EC and MC are.
When I get my laptop back next week I'll be sure to check in here before doing anything.
-
That's not a guide. Steps involved, links, etc. It's the curse of the noob but I don't know what MC, EC, where to find them, or how to flash them (separately). I do know when I looked at my stock BIOS last, I only saw one version: 8.00. I already bricked my computer, presumably because I did something wrong, and I'm awaiting delivery back from Lenovo. I am determined not to fuck it up again.

Yes, you can use the FPT.exe in Dos to flash the Bios.
But I am not sure if the attachment is the one available, the comments says DOES NOT CONTAIN EC,but the size is incorrect, Full version(Bios+EC)=6MB but if I remember well, the only bios version should be 4.5MB
Please be careful and make sure to valid every bios file before you take action.
You seem to have a good, working procedure at your disposal. Could you please, for everyone on the forum, write a step-by-step guide?
-
I mentioned it over and over again, only flash a mod of the same bios version as your stock version.
Can you put it in big red letters on your OP? Hopefully others won't wind up like me.
So, then, what can be done about my computer? I'll try anything.

You have a Y480? And the digital light is always on? Curious. Let me also ask you: does the USB port by the headphone jack function as USB 2 or 3?
I am running Windows 8.1. It's had this quirk since I got it.

Bump. I know it's possible to buy screens, as I've done it; I just want to buy screens of good quality.

My computer is bricked. It is a vegetable. What can I do? Nothing happens onscreen. I have tried everything people have suggested.

double post

{double posts because why the delay, mods?}

Your second option wouldn't work because although I can conscribe the output, the light inside won't activate until I set digital out to default. I wonder how The other machine made it work? I know it didn't set anything to default. It behaves like you were plugging in headphones; it merely routes all audio to another device.

I followed the 8.0x instructions perfectly but now I have a bricked machine. Let me note my BIOS was 8.00 and I used the 8.01 mod. If the in-process upgrade is not possible it should be made explicit in the OP. I see some people with mixed results in unbricking their machines, but no actual procedure. There are at least two other members whose problems sound exactly like mine. My computer powers up but does not POST, except for the HDD, DVD drive, and LAN. The keyboard lights up but not always. Sometimes the fan spins 100%, usually after doing the Fn+B/R. When trying the BIOS recovery or CMOS clear as some have described, I see nothing onscreen, not even its backlight. Attached flash drives do not blink. It doesn't seem to respond at all. Sometimes it powers and reboots, or bootloops. Once after booting with Fn+R it beeped. I feel like I'm searching for signs of life. Where do I go from here?

A few months ago I was researching upgrading my laptop's screen from its measly 1366x768 to something a little more formidable. Plus the screen is not of very good quality and has inconsistently-spaced pixels. I researched a very nice model, an LP140WD2-TLE2, and thought I bought it from laptopscreen.com. When I received my package I learned they shipped me one considered "compatible" -- AKA not what I ordered. This leads me to two (related) questions: Where have you had success in buying the replacement panel of your choice? Where can I buy this exact model?

Well that's god to hear. Expecting delivery of my card today.

Looking forward to it

Good luck because blowntaha's method didn't work for me. No disrespect, but I was unsuccessful. I'm really interested to hear if it works for you.
