  1. Hi the SSD is Adata premier pro 128GB 2242....

That's important info. ADATA SP900 Premier Pro 2242 ssd's have a firmware issue. It won't work with Windows 8.1 and AHCI mode in BIOS. You can however use it with Windows 7.

I don't remember all the details but a google search for "adata ssd y510p" will help.

Bottom line, if you want to use it you'll have to install Windows 7.

    PS. Nice work with soldering!

  2. its because y510 have igp and can be used to run the installer, the y500 doesnt have the disable nvidia card in the bios menu,

the osx installer just freeze and restart the system

I didn't know about the IGPU problem. But there's still a chance to get it working. Atleast you should be able to install OS X. QE/CI is a diff matter of course.

In Y510p, some progress has been made with using using the system in SLI mode. Of course, the SLI is not supported in OS X and no QE/CI yet, but you may have a look here.

I don't have much idea about SLI, since i don't have one.

If you need any help, create a thread in there and I and others will take a look. Hope you succeed.

  3. in y510p, when you remove sli card, you can use intel hd graphics. But in lenovo y500 you cant. So install fails. Laptop shut downs instantly.

Can't you choose "UMA" from BIOS instead of "Discrete"?

FYI You can boot into OS X with or without Ultrabay. The actual problem comes with enabling Graphics Acceleration. Switchable graphics WILL NOT work with OS X.

One more thing, using DSDT from another computer is a very bad idea even if its the same model/pc. A small change in ACPI can result in unexplained behaviors. I would advice anyone not to download or use DSDT from internet.

PS. Its pretty easy to extract your ACPI tables (DSDT, SSDT etc) from any OS. RW-everything in windows for example.

  4. I meant you can only enable PEG on THIS laptop if its SLi, I read about old Alienware setups where the video could be rendered by the dedicated GPU alone and they could enable PEG. I was thinking if its possible to enable IGFX with the ultrabay inserted, will help in saving battery and less heat output.

Oh. That would explain PEG setting reset. I'll not disable IGPU but i was thinking of making the discrete card as primary graphics but i've seen in other forums the danger of this (bricking). I think i would probably stay away from this :D

Enabling IGPU while in SLI would be great but i have no idea on this.

  5. You only get to enable Peripheral Express Graphics (PEG) mode when you have SLi. Switchable Graphics (SG) is default with one GPU..

If you're saying that "one cannot enable PEG unless he's using SLI" then you're dead wrong. PEGP stands for discrete graphics card. It doesn't matter if laptop's SLI enabled or not.

If you're trying to disable iGPU you'll get a black screen and that is beyond repair since the screen renders video through iGPU no matter what.

    That i'm afraid of.

  6. If by flashing the actual card you mean installing another wifi card supported by BIOS whitelist then yes, it is more easy considering you already have bought a wifi chip supported by your BIOS. But the list of cards supported by BIOS is very small.

If you are not under warranty you should remove the BIOS whitelist by flashing modded BIOS. After that you can use any half size mini pcie wifi card.

  7. Wanna add this, so people don't misunderstand that undervolt make laptop brick but it's undervolt in BIOS that brick it.

Undervolting CPU in "BIOS" does brick the laptop but undervolt using "Intel XTU" or "Throttlestop" is perfectly fine.

Have you tried it? I mostly use throttlestop and i am going to try and unlock my BIOS as soon as i complete my 5 post rule (cannot download the attachment). And as my laptop is not under warranty anymore i am afraid of it bricking.

  8. Hey guys, i heard on every forum that Y510p's don't come with M2 NGFF SSD slot.

I bought my new Y510p (Model: 59390016) yesterday and guess what, it DOES have a connector slot for SSD.

I guess new models are coming with connectors.

Check out the attachment for pics. Thanks.

  9. Hey guys, i saw on every forum that Y510p does not come with a SSD slot.

But i just bought y510p today and i found that it has a SSD connector slot. Maybe new Y510p's are coming with a SSD slot.

Check the attachments for pics. Thanks!
