  1. Me I'd look at SLI PSU units as a sign to me that I'd have more power than the New York City grid to play with. Or enough to make the video cards volt regulators explode. Actually though what happened with X7200 was there a problem. Is that a Sager model? I know they had one that offers desktop processors and sli 485M or crossfire 6970M!
  2. You see Michael it is win win for you either way now. Save a great deal of money on deal for R3 and get yourself a deal on one of those 2920XM's and your ahead of the game. That's if you don't manage to give in to the darkside and get the Blackbird M18X edition with the included "Tiger Blood". "Winning" Cough cough
  3. The 6970M is quite a competitor, did you find there to be no more headroom on 1250mhz because even a 5mhz increase is a lot of bandwidth.
  4. Yeah Michael how long can you put up with Chuck Norris kicking M18X around the inside of your head before Charlie Sheen bursts out of your head riding the M18X mothership to his home planet exclaiming Winning all along the way.
  5. Honestly the Alienware noises are usually so faint that you think your hearing things or one could say its like a ringing in your ears, mostly high pitch hums probably in the 16Khz+ range. Not everyone will hear it in other words since not everyone hears frequencies that high.
  6. They are making a big mistake to not use a larger powersupply and 10watts is what is stopping the use 2920XM is truly falling short of expectations. 10 watts they should laugh at 10 watts, the R2 can handle the increased TDP throttle stop can throw at it, but not on a larger more ventelated system. Come on Dell get with the program.
  7. Maybe you can have someone eventually from this friendly community that has an R3 to place the order for you. I would do it for you if I had an R3.
  8. I think the 14 is a good size for taking on the go. This R2 takes up more space than a normal 17inch notebook. The M14X is therefore a great candidate for a traveling multimedia gaming laptop.
  9. So it is never sealed and it is normally kept in a freezer somewhere at less than -109F. So is there a way to store it at home easily without it all evaporating? Could you use a ice chest full, as if it was an air conditioner and blow the freezing air into the system? Would that be a waste of time compared to an air conditioner blowing into air intake? Is the only real way to harness the dry ice when it is in direct contact with the surface? *Does anybody here that is using the R2 A10 bios mod notice any settings that were unlocked that actually work, or help performance? Was bios over-clocking on non extreme processors the only thing unlocked?
  10. IloveBoobs great memory bandwidth. 1250 memory congratulations. I think I may be able to attempt this if I can re-paste and re-pad.
  11. I use an 8gb flash usb drive almost daily lately to reflash
  12. Then MX-4 is what I will use. This dry ice I was wondering how it works in a certain scenario. I know how most people use it but this is what I was wondering. Is the dry ice always cold or does it get cold as it is exposed to oxygen or what our air is which is some co2 and some O2. I was wondering could I buy dry Ice and put it in like an aluminum enclosure that seals it... but is small and could cool the thermal coolers... So if dry ice is put into a sealed thin metal case like aluminum, will that aluminum stay freezing on the outside... and will the dry ice run out still or does this keep it from evaporating?
  13. I might break 6K with the fans at max but I really want to try 24x 148mhz-ish using setFSB I just get confused after setting the PLL.
  14. Welcome to the forum Strigae, keep them pics coming.
  15. http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff474/marcwwaters86/Benchmark/throttlestopbench1024m8thread97tdp97tdc25x140.jpg http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff474/marcwwaters86/Benchmark/directecomputebenchmarkmultithread100tdp100tdc25x14026xdualcore26xsinglecore1000mhzcore1000memory.jpg http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff474/marcwwaters86/Benchmark/directecomputebenchmarksinglethread100tdp100tdc25x14026xsinglecore26xdualcore1000mhzcore1000memory.jpg Yeah it's true there has been no change to thermal pastes or pads. The only thing I have done was add tape on thermal cooler fins of both gpu's and just what I could see on the cpu fins from the bottom of computer. I did this 2 weeks ago after being over 8 months old I thought I needed to blow dust out. I did there was lots of dust on the fins. The other thing I have done is here check out my post to understand. http://forum.techinferno.com/alienware-m17x/29-%5Bphotoguide%5D-cleaning-replacing-thermal-compunds-gpu-cpu-m17x-r2.html Plus I noticed the screws exposed for CPU heat sink were slightly loose i firmly tightened them with prim95 going but showed no difference in the temps I witnessed. *Stam notice the CPU temp prob you told me you noticed not too long ago.. it never changed... I will re-paste when I can afford to. I want the best I don't know if Shin-Etsu is but I may get that one.
  16. I agree like using an M18x powersupply Result http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff474/marcwwaters86/Benchmark/3dmark20115945result920core1235memory115v100tdp81tdc35quad.jpg 3dmark2011 5945 result 920 core 1235 memory 1.15v 100tdp 81tdc 3.5 quad I still have the same settings as before and haven't used the manual fan control through HWinfo yet. How's that for stock paste?
  17. Nicely said, I would like to use SETFSB to do so until THEWIZ has a working version 2 of the custom bios, I am on version 1 now... and I wish the fan thermal trip-points were working when adjusted.
  18. I agree I never understood the lack of 256bit bandwidth in the 5800m series.
  19. I feel good knowing not many are as close to Stam as I am in 3DMark2011 but I know I haven't tapped into the real capabilities til I have re-pasted. 5900+ isn't very high as Stams is 6050+. I also am on no extra cooling. I have stock paste on cpu and gpu's, no airconditioner, no dry ice, my battery is in during these, and all covers are on laptop including bottom and keyboard etc... in fact these are all without even HWinfo's fan control, which I will re-bench soon with full fans. I use the notebook cooler in the notebook general discussion and the power-supply cooler I made that's in the general thread. I don't find the PSU limiting but heat for me. I can't get my GPU clocks higher without repasting. I seem to score higher on my 920XM @ 140 base-clock at a lower multiplier than 137 base-clock at a higher multiplier. DR650SE congrats on WPrime and Vantage, that's amazing and untouchable without a similar setup. I don't know how to use SETFSB I would rather use than the bios until the WIZ gets bios to go 5-10% overclock. I want to use 24x 148mhz-ish. 3552mhz-ish. The extra 8mhz baseclock would be a great sweet spot. I think I read 150 range to be about the limit. I just can't figure out after setting the specific number for our motherboards how you change the registers.
  20. DR650SE i have had 3dmark2011 do that same thing only on gpu clocks which my gpu couldn't handle due to heat. here's my latest. Result 3dmark2011 5917 result 920 core 1235 memory 1.15v 100tdp 81tdc 3.5 quad 25x 140mhz http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff474/marcwwaters86/Benchmark/3dmark20115917result920core1235memory115v100tdp81tdc35quad.jpg
  21. I apologize but I have to correct myself again above I stated with this tweak you can keep dynamic turbo boost but you can't. It's like this with this tweak you can set a turbo boost max the same for the multipliers any number thats higher is void, it uses the lowest value you set for the turbo multipliers in throttle stop. But without the tweak you can set a setting for 1, 2 , 3 or 4 core and it will boost to the multipliers you set for each scenario. So without tweak you can set different turbo multiplier max settings per amount of cores used and with tweak only the lowest value set here will be used but it will keep processor at that value at all times. So it's your choice.
  22. those new Intel 510 series are outrageously fast the 256gb can go 500+mb reads and like 350+ write on a single ssd and priced nice for a 256gb flavor. May I suggest you make a Throttle Stop profile that has the EIST and C1E disabled and the powersaver etc. and another profile with those enabled so at the drop of a hat you can have your multiplier locked for quad core or switch profiles and have power saving features still work and allow turbo boost to once again dynamically boost according to the single, dual, triple or quad core turbo boost max multiplier that you have set. Like constant 3ghz quad core or 3ghz quad, 3.2ghz triple core, 3.4ghz dual core or 3.6ghz single core. However you set it up with the profiles feature its like the tweak has not affected anything as you can have the "best of both worlds."
  23. I've been using the new 11.4 preview drivers, what if you try them. A great utility to run like ccleaner to supplement its registry cleaner is driversweeper hosted on guru3d.
