mmh i feel like there's something preventing my GPU to work at x2 link. a
anyone got an idea?
ran the MSI afterburner and the GPU utilization is at 0%. wtf and gpu is showing as usual in the device managers.
oh btw, i used to play on external monitor and today i had to move it. so it's since switching to the internal monitor that this started.
edit: replugging the monitor fixed it. there's some easy setting surely that i'm missing.

from the screenshot you posted, 3Dmark ran the test on the 820m not the 670....although it's a 710m you have?
Optimus should kick in and disable the dedicated gpu, and the egpu should take place.
I don't understand how this works really (i don't have a dGPU) but my guess is that you'll need a dsdt override and/or the setup 1.3.
-
that doesn't sound good man.
hope you'll get it fixed
-
here you go, the files 2570P-dsdt-override
here's the guide from where i took the files, very useful http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/7476-%5Bguide%5D-dsdt-override-fix-error-12-a.html

Please explain how you got it to work. I am stumped. I have tried everything i could think of... :C
well here are my steps:
- i used the "bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON" cmd (not sure if it is needed though, it was for wind8)
- follow this video
for easy steps for the override- to get the .aml table, use the -f option with the "iasl" cmd
I'm not sure at which part you're stucked but I'll try to help

ok, windows 10 works just as good as windows 8
YAAAYYY
-
ok,like the other windows versions then
for some reason, my windows 10 upgrade is not available, although i got the notification weeks ago for the upgrade and that i signed for it since then.
-
anyone upgraded to Windows 10?
and if yes, does the DYI work? (dsdt is ok?)

Hp pavilion g4 + r9 280x egpu courtesy of Huy Nguyễn Đức:
Very nice. Wonder how he managed to get it done.
-
hope that dx12 will act at least like dx9 in terms of pci-e bandwidth since this is the major stepdown of an egpu in these days.OR could have the same bandwith compression that the dx9 has.Anyway since it looks like a completely new games enviroment,i am sure that it comes with one or more nice surprises for the egpu users.even the asinchronous multi-gpu support,if turned out to be oficial news,it will be a game changer i guess.i am pretty impacient to see it work.question of time.
That would be really awesome indeed. It sounds promising and I'm very excited about it. Now I just need to be patient

Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask about it, but I would like to know what do you guys think about the next DirectX12? Specially for us eGPU users? Is it going to bring some significant improvement (as it sounds to be for desktops)?

I'm having a strange issue. I'm trying Wolfenstein TNO, I can't run it with my GTX 770, but it runs smooth on the HD4000. Which is a shame since I need to turn down the settings and that the 770 should be able to run it flawless. Any thoughts?
-
Wow Tyrant that's a very exciting news. Hope it'll help the laptop gaming market grow and finally see the eGPU as the TRUE alternative for desktops.
I hope Intel will stop all their limitations.

Great news @useafo!!
Will you be testing with the PE4C?
-
@useafo, I don't know really.
I have the PE4L, which as I said handled like a champ a 1.2Opt with a GTX660 and after a GTX770!
But I didn't try the PE4C yet. And lately I didn't lurk much the diy-EGPU forum, but I think that some folk managed to get it working. In any case, either the PE4C can't handle the bandwith of something above a GTX550Ti or it is the GTX660 that is faulty.
But the reference you got isn't very accurate. It was already there when I bought the PE4L, and the GTX660 was not the best thing. Although I managed to get a 1.2Opt link!
But since Tech Inferno Fan pointed a hardware issue with the GPU, I strongly believe you should try to get something done in this direction.
-
@coyote, I have had extensive comms with useafo about why his GTX660 doesn't support Gen2 reliably yet his GTX550Ti does. The conclusion being there is likely a mimatched impedance on the GTX660 preventing Gen2 operation with the possibility that another vendor's card OR use of a EXP GDC instead of PE4C V2.0 will correct that issue.
Very well. It is indeed odd that his GTX550Ti worked well with the same configuration whilst the GTX660 didn't.
If I were to speculate, I'd say to test the GTX550Ti with the PE4C, see if it works, then if it does, proceed to get another GPU.
@useafo, as Tech Inferno Fan explained, it looks to me like a hardware issue from your GTX660. Return your GPU saying it doesn't work and try to get another one. Good luck.
@Lind.LHeart did you do the DSDT override?
-
@coyote I have the Setup1.30. I tried all the options, but the GTX 660 just won't work properly on external display at x1.2Opt, maybe the bandwidth isn't enough to make this happen? I'm considering to buy another GPU if it's hopeless to solve the problem.
I don't understand too
Did you manage to get it working on the internal screen?
You have a Fujitsu AH532 right? I have the exact same laptop, and I used to have a GTX660 before upgrading to the 770.
I could play on both internal and external.
I'm sorry if you already explained, but could you clarify the issues you get?
-
unfortunately, I can't make Gen2 link work, after such a long 2 weeks. Thus, I confirm that EVGA GTX 660 won't run at x1.2Opt. I'll try to buy the same card, but from another vendor.
Do you have Setup 1.x by any chance?
-
Hey guys, I need my GTX 770 to be even more portable, since it's in a case along the PSU. I was wondering if a Dell adapter would be enough for the GTX 770?
If not I'll need to think about getting something like the GTX 750 TI.
-
Hey, do you think you could help me with an issue I'm having? I just bought a GTX 660 & PE4L-PM60xxA. I disabled my 660m discrete gpu through bios, and was able to have the gtx 660 detected. My problem now is, every time I go to run any 3D application, I'll either get a BSOD, or it will reboot automatically.
Also, whether or not relevant, I should add that the LCD monitor on my laptop looks like it is on, but it's black. As in, only the screen's backlight is on, but no image is displayed. I'm currently using an external display via HDMI, which is working. I have all switches on 1_2. Another point which might be worth mentioning is: after trying to run 3dmark11, it returned an error stating out-of-memory exception has occurred. I have been unable to reproduce this error, since it just BSODs or auto reboots. I am running Windows 8.1.
I probably am wrong, but I would speculate that either the cable of the PE4L is maybe faulty (I had the same problem with a defective cable from an EXP GDC) or maybe something else.
But if my understanding is correct, the internal screen doesn't work, whereas the external work but whenever you run an intense GPU program, it crashes?
-
I just found out that in my Nvidia control panel, a lot of features were missing, including the "Display settings" tabs. Why?
I read that it was "because the Intel HD handles the display part".
-
@Tech Inferno Fan, you could click on the "?" near "Bus Interface" on GPUZ, click on "start render test" and see if the value changes from 1.1 to 2.0.
