  1. Due to my three kids, my house is very warm. Those benches were done under [email protected]. No OC on GPU. - - - Updated - - - Maybe you used optimus to run UEFI win7? Are you using IGP enabled or SG on the bios? - - - Updated - - - I didn't run win10. But I've searched the graphic and physics score of win10. They were the same as win8.1 Not anywhere near win7. That's why I didn't try win10.
  2. Intel HD graphic can be run with pure UEFI. But not nvidia. - - - Updated - - - Some of my benches with 980m sli m18x R2 3940xm @ 4.6 corsair 8+8 @ 2133, CR 1T, CL10 980m sli @ stock 344.75 mobile driver Windows 8.1 PRO K ;; http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/9039457 http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/9039415 http://www.3dmark.com/fs/3329529 http://www.3dmark.com/fs/3329506 http://www.3dmark.com/fs/3329477
  3. Yes you definitely need to update your bios. At the time of A03, I guess there was no UEFI? or UEFI wasn't that popoular.
  4. Thanks for the video. But isn't that method just moving the pre-installed windows to GPT partition? I am saying this because, if we clean-install windows in UEFI without legacy rom load, the windows will be installed in GPT partition. That's not the problem. The problem is when you run windows 7 in UEFI (without legacy rom load) which is already installed in GPT, will not load graphic driver. And the results are it looks it is stuck somewhere at screen but actually it is booted. We can even alt - F4 to turn off the laptop though the screen shows "starting windows".
  5. Yeah exactly. It's not a matter of partition or GPT thing. It's the graphic that matters in native UEFI of win7. Screen doens't work. That's the point.
  6. 3D screen should not work. But 120hz works. I confirmed with my two eyes.
  7. The newest unlocked bios for m18x R2 is A10, isn't it? So I am with A10.
  8. yeah you got it correct. Stuck on starting windows. I googled alot and people say it is impossible to install windows 7 without CSM or legacy support. Because the graphic driver or vbios is not on the UEFI bios of alieware, it will stop loading windows without legacy rom load.
  9. That doens't work for me again. Actually, I have always installed windows 7 in such way. I always used my DVD with UEFI (/w legacy rom load). But if I disable legacy rom load, windows stop at loading, just showing "starting windows blah blah"..
  10. That doens't work. Tried that already. We are not talking about UEFI with legacy load but UEFI without legacy load.
  11. Do I just nned to use partedmagic to make a USB stick using win DVD? Then use the USB to install windows? THat's it? One more question, what is this method different from installing windows 7 using DVD (UEFI: DVD)? Okay, I can install win7 in UEFI without legacy. But then it freezes at "starting windows". @J95, @ssj92, Dont your alienware freezes after installing win7 in TRUE UEFI without legacy or CSM?
  12. Thank you. I will try this! One last question, you've done it in alienware right? Asking because, not only me but Mr Fox and everyone I know failed to install windows 7 in pure UEFI. I mean pure UEFI as "UEFI without legacy or without CSM". You've mentioned by yourself that windows 7 can not be installed without legacy compatibility. I've just googled and this is due to windows 7 graphic driver that need CSM support.
  13. I think you installed win7 in "UEFI with LEGACY option". What we need is " load legacy option rom : disabled ". And with this disabled, I dont think it is currently possible to install win7 in alienware.
  14. I totatlly agree with Mr Fox, the hyung nim and TBoneSan about win8. It is surely a downgrade from win7 if you are more into hwbot.org benches. But, if you see the bright side, most games are known to run as fast as they'd do in win7. Moreover, we now know at least 980m works in alienware, though we need some more tests to be done. This will allow alot of alienware users (old and new) to buy the new 980m for their tests, needs and wants. I believe mods vbios/bios would allow us to use 980m in win7 eventually. I am pretty sure the modders will kinda know what the problems are with 980m and alienware. If people help each other in thse big community like TI and NBR, the fact that 980m runs in alienware will be a very important factor that will accelerate the possibility of it running in win7.
  15. Me neither. Not able to install win7. The last picture is the one we need. I think if we want to use win7, we need a new bios or a new vbios that has legacy boot rom.
  16. Yeah I can install win7 UEFI with legacy enabled. But not without legacy. is it still possible?
  17. yeah he is god of alienware, and my hyung nim. - - - Updated - - - all cards are the same. you just need v10 or v12 for single, two v12 for sli you u need to know, I've writen down, bro. - - - Updated - - - Yeah if you and I were fan of win8, I dont think this thread had even begun in the first place.
  18. Peter! go try now. Let's see how AW18 do with 980m SLI.
  19. Hello guys. As I've promised I am revealing the way to make 980m work in Alienware. I really can't believe that we all didn't do this. Peter and I should be punished for this "HARU" the man whom should be given the credits used only win8.1 with UEFI enabled. And he just bought the card and PnP. I was WTF? I asked him to send me the POSTing movie of his alienware. And I was shocked at the moment I saw his movie because I never tried win8.1 UEFI. So this is very simple. Follow this instruction. 1. put old GPU and go to bios -> Boot -> UEFI, legacy disabled (secure mode is not needed) 2. Turn off alienware 3. Put 980m 4. Turn the power on. 5. Ta da...POST. 6. install win 8.1 (since there is no way to install win7 in UEFI with legacy disabled, right? if I am wrong please let me know. I hate win 8) 7. install all the drivers including nvidia with mod inf. (some friend of us in TI will do it for you hopefully) 8. Enjoy postscript #1. Not tested in real game. I had no time. I am very very tired now. It's 3AM, didn't have nice sleep for a few days because of this. postscript #2. no magic vbios. so plz dont PM me for it. there is no magic vbios postscript #3. if you want to use it single, both v10 and v12 seems to work. However if you want to use it SLI, I think two v12 work best. postscript #4. I think we need some more test for 980m sli. My last thanks to Mr. Fox (my hyung nim) and Prema who lead me to the right path. https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100814025358AAtS2Fc
  20. Hello again guys. I am at home. Not yet tested. Mr "Haru" whom I give all the credits wants to share these screenshots here with you guys. His alienware is AW17 3D with 980m. In about 2-3 hours, I think all the tests should be finished. cya.
  21. Trust him, J95 the god of inf/gpu driver modding. I am pretty sure you will at least buy one. Let see how sli works on my babe.
  22. No currently I dont have AW18 and my friene who has it is out of town now. However, since single worked in AW17 if sli works in m18x r2 I am pretty sure it/they will work on AW18.
  23. I will do SLI test tonight. That would be about 13~14hours from now. Just wait till then. I love TI, prema, mr fox and svl7. I have received more than enough help from here. Just want to be the one who succeed SLI before HID, AKA tHe bIg Dxxxhead who only knows money and knows how to lie.
  24. Okay It works in m18x R2 as single 980m "non-optimus". It's 2:23AM, I will do more test tomorrow and let you guys know what I know. Since I have two 980m, I will test more tomorrow and do more benches. All credits to "HARU" from Korean Alienware Forum.
