RAM speeds in 9th gem CPUs

Recommended Posts

I know a little about computers but not heaps. Looking to upgrade from my i5-6600 to a 9600k or 9700k. I currently have 2133mhz ram but I notice that the specs given by Intel have 2666mhz listed. Does this mean I'll also need to purchase new RAM as well?

I assume these are specifications and not "suggestions" by Intel, but it would save me about $130-$260 if I don't need to get new RAM. Was looking to add another 16gb to my current 16gb along with the cpu upgrade, but might have to put that on the backburner if I have to buy all new RAM.

No, Intel listed the maximum speed officially supported so you can use slower RAM on it without trouble. Intel CPU aren't really sensitive with RAM speeds unlike Ryzen so you are good to go
