Event 4101 Display Driver stopped responding

Recommended Posts

I have  Lenovo e540 with an EXP GDC Beast 8.4d and a GTX 660.

The nvidia display driver crashes with a black screen for a few seconds when launching some games or when the egpu is used for a while, it sometimes will recover

My external power supply is 350W and the card has a power consumption of 140W so I do not think this is a power issue.

"Event 4101

Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

What I have tried:

A GTS450 instead of the GTX 660.

Setting the PCIe port to Gen 1 in egpu setup.

Setting the PCIe port to Gen 2 in egpu setup.

Setting the Nvidia power management to maximize performance in the Nvidia control panel.

Going back to the driver version 327.23, I got a blue screen instead of a crash when using this version.

Disabling HDMI audio in the Nvidia control panel.

Any suggestions or advice on this issue?

Thank you

The yellow 12V line has 16A, I had tried with another PSU in the past and it made no difference.

I tried the tin foil to block any EM interference, there is a gap in the plastic below the mPCIe connector and if anything conductive like tin foil makes contact with the pins below the plastic then it shuts down the laptop and it will not turn back on unless battery and BIOS battery are removed and put back, so that is out of the question.

Put the PSU power cable in its own socket, no extension. Now I also get "The 'NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660' device is not removable and cannot be ejected or unplugged." when trying a game I know to cause problems with the egpu.

Remembered that I used another PSU in the past, still had the same issue.

No USB devices are in the EXP GDC to cause interference.

I do think that ur PSUs are garbage ;) , I do have gtx980 and tested 5 or 6 different psu even 24A one, and all have same issue sudden request of power from gpu is treated as short circuit as other circuits have no drain on them and shuts of for a milisec to test this circuit, for GPU this is to much of voltage drop and it sends reset command .

What do you suggest?

I am not sure how I would test for this PSU issue without getting a load of PSUs and trying each one.

I have tried to update nvidia drivers of my notebook ge72vr6rf apache pro. The only drivers that works are the ones provided by the msi. The problem is that they haven't updated those since 2016 and I can't play newer games.

Some say you need to mod your 1060 drivers, which I have no idea how to some says you need to update the flags in ini files. So please help me

      Thanks for your time.

      Hi,
I want to show you my new project.
I bought my laptop about 5 years ago.  It was never speed deamon, but for every day use, it was enough to me.

      Its specification:
      Intel i7-4700MQ
      Nvidia GeForce GT745M
      16GB RAM
      512 SSD Adata SU800

Yesterday I bought Witcher 3. Of course on 1080p it's impossible to play, because of about 10fps

So I make a decision to buy external grahpic card.
I choose GTX970 and now I am looking for occasion to buy it.

I've already bought EXP GDC v8.4d mPCI-E. It is used and cost about 30$.

I will use ATX PSU to supply graphic card, because I have old desktop PSU at home.

      My plan:
      1) unlock bios
      2) buy GTX 970
      3) enjoy Witcher 3!

BTW I try to cool down my laptop, so I replaced thermal paste to Kryonout Thermal Grizzly and make some tests. Temperatures and fps are on screenshots.

      1) laptop on table, playing GTA V 1080p

      - first minute (GPU core 1045MHz)

-after some time, because of high temperature and GPU throlttling (GPU core drop down even to 400MHz)

      2) with thermalpad Glacier NC400 SilentiumPC

      - 30 minute and longer (GPU core drop to about 900MHz)

      3) without down case of laptop (like on picture with thermal paste) on thermalpad.
Here laptop never drops down MHz and max temp are about 72 Celsius degrees.

Bacause of that I bought second down case for my laptop and I will cut there additional holes.

      Greetings!

I will describe next step when I get all stuff I need!

Sometimes, our Computer becomes very slow and gives tough time to make work on it. This makes slow because of hard drive holding the plenty of data, files. So, to make faster speed clear the some space.
Some background applications or programs running make computer slow.
Remove or disable any TSRs and startup programs that automatically start each time the computer boots.
Scan for Malware and Adware, if your system infected by them.
      Uninstall Programs You Don’t Use

      Hello everyone
I created a case for egpu using 2.5mm acrylic sheets. The first time I created a case to support a GPU + ATX psu
Now I created another one for the GPU with an external Xbox 360 203w psu.
the finish was not good but for my use it is already good.

      *both cases album
      *Construction of the second case
*adapting xbox psu to 8pin power (taken from 24pin)

all made by hand with the tools I had.

      from Brazil.

Following the release of NVIDIAs new 436.02 driver which I mentioned in an earlier article here, I've decided to make a quick and dirty video showing off NVIDIAs new Sharpen filter which is part of their Game Filter feature. It works with the most popular APIs including DX 9, 11, 12 and Vulkan and can be set on a per-game basis with granular settings of 0-100 unlike AMDs RIS which is limited to Navi and lacks DX 11 support.
