Blackscreen/Bluescreen, HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone!
I wanted to help my friend of her desktop, but even I couldn't figure out what's the real problem she's experiencing. At first, I thought it would be the gpu since it's infinite loop of bsods. Then, later on it became Black screen, so I suggested to play around with the RAMs. Later on, it worked very well with other RAMs, and even when she changed her own RAMs back, it didn't gave her any signs of blackscreens. Then later on, bsods would start happening again. I kinda thought of maybe the mobo is the problem, the sockets of the RAM and the GPU are maybe faulty. It's kind of confusing on how to detect the problem because whatever she does, it will work again later on. Well, this is the whole scenario of what happened that might help you guys find the culprit of the problem.

Computer specs:
MB: P55-CD53
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7800series
RAM: 4x2g corsair
HDD: 1Tb
OS: Win 7

"Came back after a two week absence computer was turned off and unplugged. Computer loaded up just fine but after a few hours bsod. Turns comp back on shuts it down properly. Turns back on. Tries to download and install a few updates shut down turn back on. computer goes for a few more hours bsod. Too tired to mess with it again for the night. Turns on shuts down properly. Morning turns on everything is fine loads up to enter pw screen. Suddenly bsod. Tries to reload computer starts cyclying bsod. Shuts down computer. Computer now does not boot. computer turns on lights flash properly but now no longer beeps or loads. All fans turn on. there is no image on monitor(blackscreen).

Tries replacing gpu with an older and still working gpu. no change. Tries taking out gpu entirely. no change. Tries cycling out the extra power by unplugging, turning off the psu and holding the power button down for 1 min. no change. friend suggests that it might be the ram. tries taking out ram. only takes out two sticks at a time. no change. realizes later that the ram needs to be arranged a certain way. tries a friends ram and comp turns on. comp does not bsod goes through an entire system file check no bsod or errors. ram is returned to friend. tries turning on comp without any ram. gives proper error beep message. tries arranging two sticks of ram properly works. tries using the normal 4 and no longer works. however computer now gives the ram error beep message. tries all 4 sticks in every combination and every stick of ram works in every slot however will only work with 2 sticks and in a skip one order. -- or -- Computer also cannot check for updates for windows 7. has checked every service all are running as they should still does not work. has tried rebooting in safe mode with networking and checking for viruses. no viruses and windows claims there are no updates to be found. computer bsod days later. takes out ram that was in and replaces with the other two sticks and in the other slots. Works again no bsod.
note: computer has worked about 5 years without too much trouble with these same specs. the gpu and psu were replaced soon after I got them about a year."

Any help would be pretty much appreciated.
Thanks, guys! :)

It could be the hard drive. Sometimes hard drives when get old start behaving weirdly. They sometimes work, sometimes get slowed and other times give BSODs repeatedly.

You first need to isolate this issue. One by one use each component of desktop on another desktop.
