Hello, everyone!
This is my very first post on forums. I mainly just do my own research to find out how to fix my problems until I ran into this new problem that I couldn't find or solve.
I own an MSi GT780DX-406US.
GPU: nVidia GeForce GTX 570M(1.5GB)
CPU: Intel i7-2670QM
RAM: 12GB(DDR3)
HDD: 1TB
Mobo: MS-1761
OS: Windows 10(upgraded from Win 7 Home Premium)
-I used my old monitor(using VGA connector) to connect my laptop for the dual screen.
*I only need help finding a way to fix the blackscreen. Everything just seems to work properly, it boots up, I could hear windows 7 startup sound and I can also input my password on startup and it will grant me an access(boots up like 20s). But I just can’t see anything. So my tests and story down below might help anyone to find the culprit of the problem.*
Ok, so what happened first was my laptop was tearing in a game of League of Legends causing it to freeze, I had no choice but to force shut down. I restarted, it was fine, logged into the game, and when the teamfight(where the action begins to happen), it started freezing again. And before the freezing, it was like the GPU couldn’t handle it even though I was getting more than 90 fps. It also notifies me about nvidia windows kernel mode driver stopped responding and has recovered. So when I force shut it down again, and when I turned it on, it started giving me DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION and I always get that whenever I turn my laptop on. After a couple of times trying to turn it on, the screen tore down into many screens which is the picture shown below.
My screen is new(replaced it few months ago due to the red line that had appeared). I use dual screen after upgrading to windows 10(found out that my old monitor is still working, so I started using it) and I thought it was the problem of the watchdog violation. I had no choice but to reformat everything and go back to windows 7. At first, it worked, I got to see the full screen again after reformatting. However, I keep getting the notification of “display driver stopped responding and has recovered” after updating my drivers and it would freeze me where I had no choice but to shut it down by force. And when I turn it back on, it gave me infinite loop of bsods.
So I would always reformat when infinite loop of bsod starts to happen, until it gives me a fullscreen again. And then I would update all my drivers, including the gpu. One time it wasn’t giving me any errors so I tested to play a game that I’ve backed up on my hard drive. It was giving me more than 60 fps, stable, just like before, but then 5 minutes after, the laptop would start freezing and will spam the notification not responding and has recovered. Then it will give me bsods which I would be reformatting again. And after couple of tests, the screen started having tiny red dots on black color side which seems to be a GPU problem. It was just fine but I couldn’t play any games or update my gpu driver anymore(I can’t even install it, it will give me bsod when it restarts, applying the effects of the new installed driver) so I only used it to just watch anime online. One time, it won’t go back to fullscreen anymore, even when I reformat everything, it won’t give me back my fullscreen.
Right now, I tried to turn on my laptop but I’m having a black/blank screen(Doesn’t show MSi logo screen nor BIOS, just plain black). And since I know the fault is the GPU or my video card, I'm deciding to buy GTX 970M, upgrading from GTX 570M(the price difference for both aren’t really that much, and I can only find used ones for 570M). But now, it’s just blackscreen, so I’m wondering what could be the next problem or it’s just the GPU thing. I also tried to reseat both cpu and gpu but still doesn’t work. I tried other working RAMs from my friend’s MSi laptops, and it doesn’t seem that it is the fault. Now, I tried to remove the GPU and I’m still having a black screen. So now I’m thinking that it could be the cpu or the mobo that’s faulty. I just don’t know how to test both of them. My budget for now is only at $500 so I’m not quite sure if I could fix this black screen if I would be buying the video card. So if I would ever found out the problem causing of my black screen, then I’d definitely buy an upgrade. However if the mobo is the problem, then I think it would be better to save more and buy a new laptop instead.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you very much!
