upgrading Hp Z1 workstation with gtx980m

I have an HP z1 workstation (gen1).

These are somewhat special, since it's an ALL-in-one PC that uses a normal desktop CPU with an mobile videocard.

The HP has a mxm 3.0b connection inside.

The GTX has to be mounted in a special cooling case made by HP.

Unfortianly there are only a few graphic cards supported by HP.

The card I want to use is an gtx980m.

My question to you is:

Does anyone ever upgraded there Hp Z1 with an unsupported gtx980m card?

And if so , Did you had to make some changes to get it work?

The are some bits of info on google.

Someone claimed it was possible if the manufacturer of the card made a personal id for the drivers?

But i wanted to ask here for experienced users.

I don't have a gtx980m btw...yet :)

I have the Z1 (Gen1) as well.

I just installed Dell K5000m in my machine and it works perfectly fine! Just as a note, K5000m is not officially on the list of upgradable GPUs.

HP is not blacklisting the GPUs for Z1, although they do that for many other AiOs.

980M is way too expensive. Just get K5000m or K4100m, flash with OC BIOS and you will never want 980M (for that price)
