Laptop: M17x R4 dGPU: stock 7970m

I believe that Fn-F7 simply triggers: %ProgramFiles(x86)%Alienware On-Screen DisplaySwitchGPU.exe

What are the pros/cons/functional differences between these two methods of bypassing the iGPU?

Some obvious ones:
Item Fn-F7 BIOS
OEM yes no
Requires custom / unlocked bios no yes
Eliminates iGPU from device manager yes yes
