icyfire
Hoping somebody could help me out with the above setup. From what I've read so far my setup should be the ideal egpu setup however it's simply not working. I also have a 2012 macbook air and the very same sonnet sel and gtx 760 are working beautifully with an external monitor on Mavericks (havent tried windows 8) so I know that the SEL and gtx 760 are working fine. However when I use the same components on my new 2013 rMBP, it doesn't work. In Mavericks, the SEL and the GTX 760 are detected in system report however nothing outputs on the external monitor via hdmi or dvi (all the appropriate kexts are edited and I have triple checked and have even gone as far as reinstalling a fresh copy of mavericks but no dice). In Windows 8.1, the egpu is simply not detected at all even when I tried the hot plugging trick. It seems that the sel might be detected because it gives me an option at the bottom right to eject it (like a usb flash drive) but no indication of a display adaptor or anything in device manager. If I don't hot plug then i simply get a black screen after trying to boot win8.1. I have also specifically not installed the intel or nvidia graphics drivers as suggested in another thread and I have reinstalled windows 8.1 multiple times (standard bootcamp install with efi which should work with the 2013 rmbp) Is there something wrong with the macbook itself since the components work fine on the macbook air? For reference, below are my components: 2013 rMBP 15 inch with iris only Sonnet SEL GTX 760 x8 to x16 powered riser (powered by molex) Corsair 450 watt power supply sonnet thunderbolt cable (i know this is not the ideal cable compared to the apple one but it works perfectly fine with my macbook air egpu setup as stated above so I know it's not the culprit) Just for reference I have posted 2 screenshots below: Below is how it appears on my macbook air, as you can see the screen is detected appropriately Below is how it appears on the rMBP, the gtx 760 is detected but no screen is detected
trollinteemo
just to check, have you done the kext edits for the nvidia card?
Downsidebloom
Also, is the GPU EVGA?
icyfire
yes to both. It's an evga gtx 760 and the kext edits were done properly.
Downsidebloom
Hopefully you'll find a solution to this, since I'm considering the same setup. I read that the optimus driver had to be installed on W8.1 before you could use the internal screen with PnP though?
Arise
What are the kext edits? I want to try them on my lappie. Thx.
