The Y500 comes with a 120W adapter, but for major OCing and SLI mode you need to get the 170W adapter from Lenovo.
-
The Intel Rapid Storage does not work on the Y500, as the Y500 does not support RAID setup from the BIOs.
In order to use the mSATA caching, you need to use Expresscache provided on the Lenovo site.
See here for instructions I used installing my 32gb Samsung mSATA

Gee you are blind.
nvflash -iX -r is the command to remove write protection. That's what I lassoed in that screen capture. Far-sighted much?
Oh lord, I got it now.
I don't understand how I missed it. It's morning now, perhaps late night tired induced witlessness? 1080p screen makes things too small? I didn't have my glasses on?
*cough*
-
Nope, I got that. I'm talking about turning the write protection off using the -r command. Otherwise it gives you a write error when you try to flash?
-
Erp, seriously? I read it all twice, and the nvFlash guide. Eeeeeerrrr, whoops.
EDIT:
Honestly, I can't find see it? Am I that blind?

Another successful go here! svl7, thank you kindly!
Perhaps it'd be good to include a note about turning protection off for flashing the SLI card? It was a stumbling block until I remembered someone mentioning it.
Cheers!

Need a little more info. Did you uninstall it to install an updated version? Or did you do a clean install of Windows and are in need of installing the driver again?
First thing I did when I got my Y500 was create a UEFI bootable Windows 8 USB drive and did a clean install of Windows on an SSD and to remove all the bloatware and outdated drivers on the lappy. Mine came with BIOS v2.00. I had already downloaded all the newest intel drivers but I have never had any issues with the Intel RST software.

The expresscache you mentioned is correct if what he is doing is using the mSATA and the HDD. I didnt get that from his post. As for the IRST drivers, they provide an alternate AHCI driver that is also useful on single drive systems:
"Intel Rapid Storage Technology provides benefits to users of single drives as well. Through AHCI, storage performance is improved with Native Command Queuing (NCQ). AHCI also delivers longer battery life with Link Power Management (LPM), which can reduce the power consumption of the chipset and Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive."
Okay, gotcha, it wasn't really clear as to what he wanted, and when you edited your post it moved my response stating that back up!
Thanks!

Oh, perhaps I misunderstood? Your post doesn't say if you need it for an SSD (which I know nothing about), or for mSATA caching.
-
When I received my laptop it came with Rapid Storage Technology installed. Everytime I install it my harddrive seems to stall or to freeze. When I do not install it I don't have any issues.
Is this a hardware issue or software? Because that very same Rapid Storage Technology version works well on any other computer I have tried.

Is the battery really 65W? That explains. He could still overclock the Low power clocks but thats dangerous.
Actually, looking at my battery, it seems to be 72W. Trying to run a GT650m off that at full speed would kill it quick and dead.

You can also try changing SLI mode from AFR2 to SFR (Split Frame Rendering). That works when stuttering occurs too often. SFR introduces overhead though
I'm new to this SLI thing, where would you find that setting?
-
It's because the GPU actually throttles when on battery. It can never run at the same performance as if you were on AC power. I tested this with Dell Inspiron N5110. To be honest you shouldn't be gaming on battery anyway. I don't think it's healthy for the battery either
One would think that it may be extremely obvious that your tiny 65W battery isn't going to power the SLI machine you need a 170W adapter for... Or even 120W without SLI...
*shrug*

I tried the Intel Rapid Storage before I modified my BIOs without any luck. If it is only limited by the BIOs, then would it work correctly now with the modded 2.02? Is it better than using Expresscache?
