  1. I just want to say that I replaced the Thermal Compund as I disassembled the M14X... on both GPU and CPU.

Before i got 80 degrees in 3DMark11 on CPU and 75 degrees on GPU (after 4 runs) . Now slightly hit 70 Degrees on CPU and 60 - 62 Degrees on GPU (after 4 runs). Prime95 small FFT results in 70 - 72 Degrees on CPU. So this replacement gave me a huge cooling plus. As a patriot, I used NOCTUA thermal compound from austria... xD

I think the main problem is that the thermal compund was everywhere. On the CPU, beside the CPU, on the heatsink... and too much... now there are 2 little drops on cpu an

    gpu and its much better...

Tempreatures measured in the 4th run with REAL TEMP, GPU-Z logfile, CORE TEMP, DESKTOP WIDGET (Logfile)

  2. Ok as promised here the pictures from the M14X Mainboard.

    2 things to say:

    - My girlfriend got the good lens with her so I have to take the pictures with a middle range lens (unsharp @ edges)

    - Someone put the iso value up to 1200, so the pictures are a little bit noisy. I saw it to late as I edited them in Photoshop and the M14X was assembled again

If anyone needs pictures from a dedicated area --> tell me... I disasemble again when I have the good lens back because I want to have "perfect" pictures.

The process took me about 2 hours but now I know how to do and i´m sure it is possible to disassemble the whole machine in half an hour. So its no problem to do it again

    Here we go:

  3. I have to rep you for that all... its outstanding the work of you all !!!! I would like to give something back to you guys:

I teardown the M14X and give some Hi-Res Piuctures of the mainboard (4 Pictures (a´12 MP)-> 1 large Panorama Pic) Maybe we can stick this in the M14X section! I will also add the

Datasheets of the VRs and take pictures from the CPU and GPU without Heatsink !

Hopefully it wont be to tricky to teardown that machine... xD I start...... now... xD

  4. when you try to open GPU-Z or Precision or NVinspector there is no NV ... xD it seems to shut down to prevent... you can try but i dont think that that will change anything... thanks for your effort but when its not possible to go slightly under 1 Volt i think we reached the maximum with software modding... xD But its a huge increase i think...

  5. FF is never good... xD When you saw FF on the EVGA classified you have to RMA... xD

it seems the value is too high... it says no supported hardware detected... flash back to the modded A01 ! thanks slv7 ! maybe we try it with 1 Volt on A01 if you have time but I think 1 Volt is the OVP (When 1 V is reached --> Boot FF). It would make sense.

If it is possible we can try it with 0,97 or 0,98 Volt

  6. Danger said it all, thats the main difference... Bios settings are stock at A01. Maybe im lucky having a "cooler" cpu and gpu cause the fans don´t spin very fast at benchmark... 8-10 runs 3DMark11 (cause I cant belive it was stable) and the notebook was still "warm" and not hot... 860 on core gave me a driver problem wich seems related to to low voltage on the GPU core (experienced same issues with dedicated GPU on that bench) but on dedicated GPU its easier to push the Voltage higher...

  7. yeah see what you can do... i can smell the 2000 Points in 3DMark11... xD No hurry slv7... I´m sure when we can code the 1 Volt setting in the BIOS 880 - 900 on the Core are possible...

other question: How dou you extract the VBIOS from the .exe... ?? I modified BIOS for ASUS Boards (but only Microcodes for CPU support and "easy stuff") I would be interested how you extract it and how the strings are changed ?? (maybe the name of the program...)

As I said... there is so much potential in this M14X and now we have unleashed it... xD I can´t say how happy i ´am... xD

  8. post-213-14494988517023_thumb.jpg

    i7-2630QM

    Core: 850 MHz ; Shaders 1700MHz ; Memory 1020 MHz

    3DMark 11

remember that is the weaker CPU... if i had the stronger... 2000 would be possible with that clocks...

    @ slv7

that is not the end... I can´t go higher at the moment because I need more volt, please mod me one with 1,00 V instead of 0.93 V. The Temps are more than ok !

  9. no, because 3DM11 is highly GPU demanded...it changed since 3DMARK2006. That was a benchmark where high CPU Clocks were more important than high GPU clocks. Now its more important to have higher GPU clocks (as it should be).

Crysis 2 is the best game to max out the system (or Crysis , Crysis Warhead). In no game there is more heat than in Crysis 2, Crysis Warhead and Crysis on my system...xD

  10. Ok guys... here some stuff you might test to cool down the m14x:

    1. I removed the plate wich covers the RAM. So my notebook cooler directly cools the ram.

    2. I have a Notebook cooler... think it´s a Zalman must have a closer look. (there are 3 fans wich are really silent)

    3. If you have no notebook cooler: Put something between the notebook and the table @ the rear of the notebook (its simple but it helped me cool down)

    4. If you dont need the DVD Drive (as I do) remove it (better circulation of Air)

    5. Remove the GPU and CPU Heatsink and replace DELL cooling paste with a high perfomance paste (Like Arctic Silver). But be careful.

These things will help ya to cool down (i´m sure most of you guys knew it before but i wrote it down). So and now i´m gonna flash that BIOS... xD

    ===EDIT===

Flashed it... works great...xD awesome work guys....

@slv7 when time allows it, please make a bios with more increasement (just a bit more than what it is at the moment) than the modded... i want to know where is the limit of temps and clocks... Ingame i have no problems @ 800 core and linked shaders (Bad company2, Dirt3) Will try Crysis 2 later.

  11. Thanks slv7... i download it now and test it tomorow BEFORE i disasemble... xD apreciate the work of ya both... maybe steve can post if his flash worked or not...... We close to get what we want... xD

can you give me a link to that "tool" I can flash with ?? I dont want to make something stupid... only to be on the safe side... xD

  12. yeah the paths are not visible (picture)... No VRAM is usually 8 tp 12 Pin not more (think about the 4870 Series and the 3870 series) there were 8 pin VR´s... that one is really good situated... if it is the right... measuring and modding is no problem...but the only way to verify is to disassemble the notebook...and that is what I have to do this week... and now for real...xD I promise... xD

  13. The yellow marked VR is the following:

it looks like its a VR for a CPU... but maybe its the VR for the GPU... but one Datasheet is better than none... its readable without teardown the whole machine... Here is the link

    http://www.intersil.com/data/fn/fn6359.pdf

fact is...: That VR is easy to modify. Thanks to you slv7... NOW I teardown the machine at tuesday and have a closer look... xD Resistors are ready to use... xD

To the Bios: If you have one... i´ll try it for you... no problem...I dont fear such things... xD

On the Pic: What is CPU and what is GPU ???
