  1. Is the GTX 670 Mini really that much better than a GTX 760 mini? GTX 670 Mini vs. GTX 760 Mini Prices of the GTX 760 Mini are cheaper and stocks are more available.
  2. You're right, x34 is better. But I'm still curious if those customized BGA turned PGA adapters are better/worse than the natural PGA ones. The pins might be a little longer/shorter affecting heat dissipation and performance. Those no rating sellers in aliexpress are scammers. I provided a similar link to a cheap 3740QM a few posts back. Also in a few posts back, @rhx123 tried to purchase one but aliexpress caught the scammer and returned the payment.
  3. The Intel Website says the i7-3630QM can support DDR3L. Also, the Trusted Execution Technology feature "may not be available on all computing systems". But as mentioned, the iGPU max clock speed is still arguably better in the 3720QM. Is this really necessary if you have eGPU implemented? Still curious about those BGA CPUs customized with PGA sockets. The sellers mention that they maintain lower temps than their PGA counterparts. Would this mean we can hopefully maintain x35 for longer periods?
  4. Just wondering if a 240W Dell adapter would work instead of the shipped 220W. Planning to power a GTX770 without using a bulky ATX PSU (SFX is still bulky). I like the x2 links though. Hoping x2.2 would work on the 2570p, since the WiFi whitelist is buggy.
  5. I like the idea of the EXP GDC having an 8-pin 220W adapter, giving us the option of a portable eGPU without the large PSU attached to it. Looking at this 24-pin connection on the PE4C v2.0 adapter, it looks like we are still stuck with bulky external power supplies. Is there any chance that the DC port can reach 150W (enough for a GTX660ti)? Wishful thinking. EDIT: I found this adapter but am worried about its reliability.
  6. Just wondering guys what your thoughts are on the new Dual mini-SATA to SATA RAID Adapter by Bplus Tech. Would two mSATA SSDs in RAID-0 be a feasible option for our Extremebooks? It could spare our Caddy slot giving room for a 2Tb HDD. EDIT: I found out my answer here.
  7. Either the DK2 or the consumer version when it's out. Just want to know if the portable eGPU can handle 1080p resolution gaming or if it will see a bottleneck.
  8. Thanks for the feedback. The idea of the tutorial was to make eGPU newbies aware of how simple the eGPU setup can be for a Series 6/7 chipset with at least a GTX460 GPU. Added a few annotations on the Youtube page so that the viewers can be further guided. At the moment, everything on my 2570p is stock, since I've recently migrated from my old T400 + GTX460 eGPU. Will update my sig as soon as I receive my purchased upgrades. EDIT: @jacobsson, I've also been thinking about the mini GTX670 for my portable eGPU setup. I'm just curious if a mini GTX670 can sustain smooth 1080p gameplay as I'm planning to test out my rig on the Oculus Rift soon as it is commercially available.
  9. @Tech Inferno Fan, I made a Simplified Youtube tutorial on installing an eGPU. My buddies wanted a KISS tutorial so that's the best I could manage for now. Fixed the adapter name already. Question, if I'm going to use the EXP GDC V6, is it more advisable to underclock a GTX 770 than to overclock a GTX 670? If yes, would a GTX 780ti underclock be better than GTX 770? Also, is the BCM4352 much better than the 3160HMW? The 3160 is around half the price of Broadcom.
  10. Great, I was hoping on getting a Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz. Is the 1.5V really a huge difference in power consumption compared to the 1.35V RAM?
  11. Seems like the 3740QM/3840QM seller I saw took out his cheap items a week after posting it. Smelled kinda fishy that he was selling at half the price of the cheapest 3740QM I could find on eBay. Guess I'll settle for a 3740QM then. Question on RAM (since the discussion on the Page 50+ left me hanging): Is 8gb DDR3 (Dual Channel 2x4Gb) at 1600Mhz the ideal maxed out RAM for the 2570p? If so, why is it that there are some users with 16Gb RAM and some trying the 1866Mhz? I'm hoping to use the excess RAM to run a ramdisk as browser cache so I don't know if I should go 16Gb.
  12. @jacobsson You may be right on the GTX 680 since it's 195W. Question though is if the extra cost to bump up from a GTX 670 to GTX 680 is really worth it. Judging by this photo (and its time of release), I'm guessing the 220W adapter can power the listed devices? http://img01.taobaocdn.com/imgextra/i1/20602407/T2VPB9XwVaXXXXXXXX_!!20602407.jpg
  13. Correct me if I'm wrong but can the 220W fanless adapter really power up a GTX 770? I thought the GTX 770 was 230W? GeForce GTX 770 | Specifications | GeForce If not, then what is the most powerful GPU that can be powered by the EXP GDC?
  14. Hey Tech Inferno Fan, I'm not mucking around. I just referenced the eBay link because the description of a BGA to PGA socket is there. I'm more concerned about the G2 (or rPGA988b) socket being compatible. This is more of what I'm eyeing at: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Laptop-CPU-Intel-Core-i7-3740QM-OEM-SR0UV-2-7G-6M-L3-Turto-3-7G-brand/1790431320.html or this http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Intel-cpu-i7-3740qm-sr0uv-formal-3840qm-sr0ut-edition/1790417709.html At this price point, I might even consider bumping up to a 3840QM just in case its performance may be suboptimal to the one it advertises.
  15. Hello everyone! I've been following this thread for a while now and after contemplating long and hard have finally jumped ship into acquiring a new HP 2570p. Though I do not consider myself quite competent in computer hardware (being in the Medical profession), I try as much to do my research first before asking any questions here. With that said, I think I may have found myself stuck in a pre-purchasing crossroad for my 3740QM. Will any i7-3740QM model work so long as it has a G2 socket, or will it have to be specifically a PGA988 socket? Also, what are your thoughts on a 3740QM with a BGA to PGA988 adapter? There's a model from Hong Kong (SR0UW) that advertises their BGA chipset with PGA adapter as being more economic, since the BGA chip is claimed to have better power and temperature control ability. Intel Core i7 3740QM SR0UW BGA to PGA Laptop CPU 2 7GHz 3 7GHz 6MB Socket G2 | eBay Thanks in advanced.
