In typical communist fashion, they deleted any posts supporting Martin and his contributions to the community and then locked the thread to prevent further discussion. Great.
Fuck them!

Interesting thread, yes no shin-etsu there... also what of the rice sized piece technique? The video here is hard to see and I don't think its the right way but it seems that latex glove may help smotth surface of paste to start with... he seemed to apply to much... but you could wipe the edges away to make sure there wasn't too much.
comments on youtube about this video is too funny LMAO asian condoms?!? WTF? lol

good idea! moved the thread to a more fitting forum.
thanks for that info!
btw, how come shin etsu is not in the list?

I did not know exactly where to put this thread but i think is a good idea to discuss and share something about the thermal paste. I have read enough of this topic, and the best known brands are:
Tuniq TX 2 / TX 4 Extreme
I found a new one (at least i did not know) that promises to be better than the others, called GC-Extreme Solutions GELID, here are the link to a review: GELID Solutions GC-Extreme Thermal Compound Review - Page 1/5 | techPowerUp.
Also found several videos on YouTube explaining the methods of applying thermal paste, and i want to share with you a couple of them:
Also found some pictures here that show (basically) how to apply the thermal paste on the AW M11x, i think internally is quite similar to M14x
so, if any of you know a method or have any pictures/videos/reviews that you can share i'll be more than interested in seeing them and if they are of the M14x that would be better!
greetings!

Some people are saying that the M14 i7 processor 2630 can support 1600/1866 mhz memory, but others say it is not possible.
I found this: Kingston HyperX 8GB 1866MHz PnP Memory Kit For Notebooks - Sandy Bridge Notebooks Get HyperX Treatment - Legit Reviews
and this: Kingston HyperX 8GB 1866MHz PnP performance with Sandy Bridge
According to previous reviews ... YES it can...?
But, intel says NO: Compare Intel® Products
Is it worth it? Does it increase the performance significantly? what do you think?
I'm thinking of buying this: CORSAIR 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 for $82 but if the M14 supports 1600/1866mhz i rather buy one of them

ahh ok ok got it!

And where is that inf file? I never thought this inf file would go this far. I was clearly under the impression that everything is fixed for optimus and alienware.
download the GPU driver from NVIDIA or from laptopvideo2go.com
then you have to download the .INF file (a modified file that which enables you to install the drivers): Look for you OS version and more instructions at Drivers | drivers for mobile cards and laptops | laptopvideo2go.com
when you already have the drivers and the .INF try to install the driver, choose for location files, (eg c:\nvidia) at that location will unzip the files
then...app can not install saying it can't find hardware...wherever... and the application quits...no problem
go to the location where you unzipped the files (eg c:\nvidia) and then copy the. INF that you get from LaptopVideo2Go, replaces the original file
thats all!

Hey, very nice, thanks!!
In case you (or anyone else with a M14x) repastes the system please post some pics of how it looks inside the system.
that would be great!
EDIT: found this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/575524-thermal-paste-reapplication-photos-56k-warning.html just pics and is not step by step
EDIT: i found a youtube video Upgrading the M11x R2 with internal Bluetooth module and high end thermal compound: Alienware m11xR2 high speed modding
apparently the M11 and M14 are very similar internally, but i still think both are a bit tedious to get inside, practically we have to remove everything to get the CPU / GPU
