  1. Yes the EM series can read the EC, but the card still does not work. This is a system bios issue. His current mod does not fix this but he is working on it.

Oh okay... I thought I saw a screenshot before somewhere that showed Prema 3DMark-benching the 780M on his P150EM... Hmmm I might be getting old :beated:

  2. A poorly written system BIOS ACPI code is the reason why nvidia 7xxm series do not work in clevo EM series laptops.

Hi, sorry that it sounds a bit confusing for me... Above you mention that Dell 7xxm series can be read by Clevo EC, and then 7xxm do not work in clevo EM? And that this is a Bios issue?

@Prema Does your custom Bios fix this?

  3. @selphie Dell Nvidia 7xxm series cards are properly read by the clevo EC, but they have the same ACPI issues that Clevo and MSI cards have.

Hi Khenglish, could you clarify what is this ACPI issue exactly? I haven't heard of this before and google didn't turn up anything substantial.

  4. Hi Prema,

Do you know if Dell Geforce GTX 780m or 880m would install in Clevo P150EM ? I have your custom v2 bios installed, running Win7.

I know that Dell AMD 7970M ain't supported from searching the forums... apparently it detects the temperatures wrongly in Clevo... is it the same with the Dell GTX cards?

  5. prema, i thought u fixed the P150EM CPU throttling while using dGPU in the V2 bios? Because I think I'm stil encountering it on my P150EM rig, with 3610qm, 670M GTX.

Running Prime95 + MSI Kombustor, CPU throttled to 2.3GHz. Once I launch Throttlestop, CPU immediately shoots up to 3.1GHz.

  6. 1. XTU Bench is a joke

    2. If the settings fail the system will reboot a second time and restore stock values automatically. (If that fails you can still pull the CMOS battery to revert to stock manually.)

    3. We tested on many systems for months without problems... ;)

    Thank u Prema, we <3 u!!!

  7. Running Prema V2 bios T1 on my P150EM. Love the new boot logo. I finally downloaded XTU to try overclocking my 3610qm.

Managed to OC my reference clock from 100MHz to a stable 105.2776MHz :)

    Some questions here:

    1) Even though I OCed, but the benchmarking score in XTU is still the same ~606, how come?

    2) Some items like intel graphics tuning and RAM timing changes require a reboot according to XTU... I want to know what happens if I do reboot? Would these changes only be applied once in Windows, or it is applied during BIOS startup itself? If it applies during BIOS and the RAM timing I picked is bad, then it might brick my rig, no? And I'd have to reset the CMOS battery and all that (which I rather not do)?

    3) Wasn't the P150EM missing some chip that XTU required to work properly, which the P170EM had? So how does this affect P150EM overclockers at the moment?

    Cheers!

  8. - Promoted "Configurable TDP" to "UP"-state (P15xEM models)

    - Added custom boot logo v2 (Legacy & BGRT)

Hi Prema, can you briefly explain what does the Configurable TDP to UP-state means?

Also, is it possible to add in future a custom .gif file so that anyone can flash their personal custom boot logo? :P

  9. Sure, just don't flash older (pre 1.02.xx) EC & BIOS as that will brick the Clevos even when we just use stock versions...

So this as long as I don't backflash any 1.01.xx or 1.00.xx I'm fine, correct?

Also, is it a big issue if I don't flash EC, just BIOS? Asking because my current EC is 1.02.11 but BIOS is 1.02.14, so they aren't always the same numbers.

  10. By 4-6C. You have to use very thin rows of aluminum tape, just enough to cover the gaps and then a bit more to make sure it sticks. Too much will do the opposite and start collecting more heat (in which you can feel from the backplate). So for now, I have literally no problems with heating.

EDIT: If you want, I can take a few snapshots of how I did it in case you want visuals.

Hi Ionesyndal, could you post the snapshots please? I'd be interested to mod my P150EM if it's easy enough.

  11. They will come to my blog, but I need to update the rest of the site first, everything there has become quite a mess and is very confusing.

In the meantime, why not make yourself useful here on TI? This won't be the last time TI gets a "time exclusive" on my work.

We would like TI to be a growing community of people who like to go beyond the usual boundaries of of technology and share their knowledge.

Thanks, that sounds like the right and selfless thing to do ;)

I'll start it off first with what I've done:

I got the P150EM from Metabox (Australia). Standard specs except for Crucial M4 SSD self-replacement.

    Default EC: 1.00.03

    Default BIOS: 1.00.03dNS1

I think the dNS1 BIOS is a standard 1.00.03 BIOS but modified by Metabox as it has the Metabox logo during bootup.

Anyway I have updated my EC and BIOS to 1.00.04 successfully. I believe that this is the requirement for further upgrade into newer BIOS versions or risk bricking it.

    Sequence:

Boot into USB stick, flash EC first (ECFlash.bat), machine shuts down after flash.

Unplug for 5 sec, replug, turn on, go into BIOS, EC shows up as 1.00.04, BIOS still 1.00.03dNS1

Boot into USB stick again, run MESET.EXE, machine autoboots.

Boot into USB stick again, run FlashMe.bat, BIOS flashes for 2 minutes, machine shuts down after flash.

Unplug for 5 sec, replug, turn on, go into BIOS, EC shows up as 1.00.04, BIOS 1.00.04. Success!

Booted into Windows 7 on my SSD without any problem. Just waiting for your hack to be available now :)
