  1. Not sure about the PE4H not running at 1.0 speeds, I thought it was but since you only have a PCIe 1.0 slot on your laptop I don't think the PE4L would help much since you can't use Gen 2 speeds. Just wondering too, what is your setup at the moment? Like CPU and eGPU? Maybe your CPU is too slow? I don't have Farcry 3 to try but I tried Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and it's playable but I only get about 30-40 fps. Not sure why since I can run newer games pretty well. Maybe there is some fix for those types of games?
  2. Yeah, I was asking that since I was thinking maybe it's not really worth the trouble for quadrider to exchange his PE4H for a PE4L since I think he said his laptop only supports PCEe 1.0 anyway. Unless he is thinking of using it in the future on another laptop maybe. He said he couldn't play Call of Duty, I'll try it on mine and see if I have the same problem. Maybe it is some sort of universal problem like Ivxy said.
  3. Sorry what I meant was that assuming his laptop can only has a PCIe 1.0 (not sure if this is what he meant) then he wouldn't be able to take advantage of the Gen 2 speeds that the PE4L is capable of since his slot only uses PCIe 1.0? Or is it actually possible for newer cards to use Gen 2 speeds on a PCIe 1.0 slot? Is it dependent on the card itself instead of the the PCIe slot?
  4. I am not 100% sure on this , maybe someone could correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the PE4L only good if your mPCIe slot on your laptop is PCIe 2.0? Otherwise you might as well stick with the PE4H since you can't use the Gen 2 speeds of PE4L? If you can use Gen 2 I think it's 5 GT/s compared with 2.5 GT/s per lane but as daver said, it might depend on good of a graphics card you have. Maybe something better than a 560 would be better if you are using a PE4L. In the video, it said he encountered a error 12. Did you also get this error like him?
  5. Yeah I'm using PE4H, just looked up the table of comparisons on hwtools and it seems you were right about the gen speeds. Will still try using a PSU like I said earlier to see if it helps though since the 7750 needs about 200W + and I'm only giving it about 80w at the moment through an AC adapter. If it goes well I will consider getting a nicer Nvidia card for that opt thing. I wouldn't knock the PE4H though Quadrider, it still plays all the latest games for me at 720p+ on at least medium settings at 30fps+. edit: btw the slowdowns I mentioned before were only when I used a PS2 emulator PCSX2 which ran fine before on my HD 3000, so if worse comes to shove I could just switch back to play it xP
  6. ah i see, the only game i tested which gave me problems is batman arkham city where i get hangs and black screens every now and then. i read though that my power supply may not be sufficient (using ac adapter at the moment) so i might try a proper psu to see if that changes things. maybe i can try the gen 2 speeds then because i think i am only getting gen 1 (if i enable gen 2 in setup 1.x, there is no sound and my laptop locks up after a few min logged into windows). i can see what you mean performance wise though especially with laptops, maybe my expectations were just too high xP. thanks for the advice.
  7. ah i see, i thought the pe4h was the more updated version. i threw in the amd 7550 because it was one i had lying around, might change to a nvidia if that greatly improves things later on. oh well it still runs fine so i can't complain. although i do get slow down in some games, is this normal?
  8. It says I have @x1 1.1 in gpu-z. The x1 is fine i think but I shouldn't the 1.1 be 2.0? In aida64 it says I have PCI-e 2.0 x1 slots so maybe I have to do something with the port setups in setup 1.x? But when I looked in setup 1.x, I could only see options for x1, x2 and that sort of thing and nothing for the PCI-e 2.0 slot. edit: also yeh i can use my laptop display with my egpu too. not sure what optimus is though edit2: just looked up optimus, it looks promising but i am using an amd card which i don't it works with those modded drivers
  9. yeh thanks!! everything works really well now, i can boot into windows with my egpu connected. tried g2 speeds to see if i could get more out of it but that crashed it. i wanna ask though, in aida64 it says i can use 2.0 x1 since i have a sandy bridge. is there a way to check if it's using 2.0 instead of 1.1?
  10. i managed to figure it out in the end. i looked up ntoskrnl.exe and it seems to handle the ram and hdd side of things so i checked my dsdt override. apparently i didn't need to do the dsdt override (thought my tolud changed after i applied it but was wrong) so when removed it from the registry, everything went fine all is well now, thanks a lot for the help ^^
  11. thanks for the advice, i ran whocrashed and it does have a few reports but i am not too sure what is wrong to be honest. it mentions something about malware but all i did was plug in the egpu. it seemed to be the same file every time though. it gave me this report: On Tue 07/05/2013 18:40:22 GMT your computer crashed crash dump file: C:\windows\Minidump\050713-15834-01.dmp This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x75C40) Bugcheck code: 0xC000021A (0xFFFFF8A00CFC9AC0, 0xC0000189, 0x0, 0x0) Error: STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED file path: C:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System company: Microsoft Corporation description: NT Kernel & System Bug check description: This means that an error has occurred in a crucial user-mode subsystem. 12. Hey guys, I'm getting an error when booting windows 7 with my egpu connected. It always shows a blue screen (something about a fatal error) and starts dumping memory. My setup is: Dell Inspiron n5050 8gb RAM PE4H + PM3N CPU: Core i5 2430m iGPU: Intel HD 3000 eGPU:Sapphire HD 7750 Anyone else have this problem before? I have ran the DSDT override so I shouldn't have any issues with error 12 and setup 1.x seems to recognize my egpu but windows does not (when I try going into standby mode and plugging it in). My tolud seems to be ok too. I have the PM3N plugged into my wifi slot and quite strangely, windows (used aida64) doesn't recognise that the pm3n is plugged in. Not really sure what is wrong but some help would be great, I've attached my setup 1.x screen if that helps. SCN001.BMP
