1. In my opinio there is no point of buying something newer if You have already GTX660Ti.
2. Because of that GTX680 does not give any tangible advantages over the GTX670 I returned to the idea of a mini eGPU . Generally carrying my trunk is ok but why not try to reduce it ? Unfortunately GTX670 mini is almost unavailable in Poland , I started looking for GTX760 mini. According to test of these cards on the same portal, it is clear that the GTX760 performs better in games than the GTX670. Probably because of newer driver. At the beginning I found the power supply, small SFX from Tacens Radix Eco 350W appeared as the ideal, but immediately after turning it on, I decided to find something else, to me is just too loud in idle. I came to SFX from Fortron, led satisfaction with currently used Fortron 350W big brother, I bought a SFX Fortron in the hope that this will more quiet than Tacens. And it is. Much more quiet. Tacens has a very strange whistling at idle and do not want to mix with the bearings. When got SFX and card, I started to connecting it. Then zonk. GTX760 mini has 8 input pin adapter but I thought this adapter 8pin - 2x molex. No no no - we have 8pin from 2x6pin. Well, shit happens. Fortron as SFX has a lot molex as much as 3 but it is unfortunately one lacking Oh well , I'll try to connect like an idiot, 2xmolex - 6pin - 8pin as one branch and a second branch created from one (supposed to have two) molex. After connecting everything, it turned out that the card fired! No howling , does not go out , etc. have been so tests in games and 3dm11 . For stock went nicely 3dm11 giving result 7104 GS . After trying to OC for the same level as on test card on TechPowerUp, failed to pass the entire 3dm11, the highest setting at which the test was over 100 core 200 memory. This gave a result of 7488. Results weak compared to the i7-3630QM + GTX680 or i7-3630QM + GTX670 but as you can see, once again, the points do not play particularly in the realities of the eGPU. In the end, it was able to draw a card with a score of GS most comparable to PS After a few runs 3dm11, mode high efficiency and throttlestop set to x29 (the maximum possible stable multiplier for this CPU), I had a max temp 79C on the card. Alarmingly much. 80C is a throttling limit for a series of GTX7 ** . Few minutes after the test card hanging himself in idle at 33C (at 1400 rpm [ btw 1400 rpm max is observed for GTX670/760/680 series TwinFrozr]). The stress max is 2340 rpm. Not bad. Below are some pictures (unfortunately poor quality) cards with Fortron SFX. It is a comparison of the card + SFX to the ATX and SFX card comparison to trunk which is fitted almost ideal normal ATX power + GPU. Ultimately, I want to make the case for a mini eGPU which is to have the external dimensions: height 12.5cm length 18cm max width of 10cm. So we can say that I have an eGPU in size of ATX AC! 3. P1xxSM-Changelog | Prema Mod really interesting mods. Someone ready to ask mod for elitebook/latitude?
4. Exactly. I don't have any visible boost in gaming so I don't want to mess with throttlestop. There is no point for me. I can even bet with You that you won't get any visible difference. Seriously. If you even get 2 or 3 more fps in minimal fps you won't even notice it from fps plots. The same situation with GTX670 vs GTX680. No point of buying something stronger than GTX670. results very similar to mine, so it should be correct IMO.
5. Even less difference in PhysicsScore 3dm11. In my opinion there is no point of getting better CPU's. :)
6. I put today 3630QM back but there is something wrong with throttlestop. When EIST is selected, I run for few test and there was higher TDP comparing to yesterday and the multiplier was one higher than estimated. After restart TDP was the same like yesterday, with EIST selected. So I'm afraid this data from throttlestop is not stable to make any comparisons
7. I need to check 3630QM one more time. Cause after swap from 3630QM to 3632QM I wasn't able to run benches (x12 to top) If I didn't restart throttlestop. Maybe the same happened when I got x27 on 3630QM (on the picture You can see during top 3630QM setting, throttle sees only 27x).
8. Yes, This is correct. x12 x13 x14 x15 x16 x17 x18 x19 x20 x21 x22 x23 x24 x25 x26 x27 x28 x29 i7-3630 VID 0,85 0,85 0,86 0,87 0,88 0,89 0,9 0,92 0,93 0,95 0,96 0,97 0,98 1 1,01 1,03 NA NA TDP 10,6 11,2 11,9 12,8 13,7 14,4 15,4 16,4 17,4 18,4 19,6 20,7 22 23,4 24,9 26,4 i7-3632 VID 0,83 0,83 0,83 0,83 0,84 0,85 0,86 0,87 0,88 0,9 0,92 0,93 0,95 0,97 0,99 1,01 1,03 1,05 TDP 10,2 10,8 11,4 11,9 12,7 13,4 14,4 15,3 16,4 17,3 18,6 19,8 21 22,3 24,1 25,7 27,6 29,8
9. Yes, we are going to do some more gameplay comparisons. At the time, I've been waiting for my GTX680 warranty respond (not working fan) and I've been browsing internet for 7970 to compare them in Battlefield4 and Crysis3. And I don't know why this old GPU is so expensive - far more than notreferent GTX680 After tests I will probably sell GTX680 if doesn't ensure better gameplay than GTX670.
10. I'm going to do this comparison table with 3632QM and 3630QM when I get my new 3632QM. I hope it's gonna be this week. Thank for Your advice with CPU's but really I can't see any improvement with better CPU's than 3632QM. I believe than even 37** or 38** won't give me better utilization of GPU in eGPU than 3632QM. Take a look for CPU load, CPU Package Power (the same values as TDP in throttlestop) and GPU utilization. Look how good GPU is loaded with the same level of CPU utilization and how big differences we have in TDP at the same time red: i5-3230M green: i7-3630QM red: i7-3632QM
11. Correct, I've already changed tjmax in throttlestop from 98C to 105C and differences are only about 2C. btw, I got info from my 3632QM buyer, he sent me a information about VID and TDP from my previous CPU, and what a mess! I sold so good CPU x12 VID: 0,80V TDP: 10,1W Do You think there are possible differences for VID and TDP if test is conducting with 65W adapter? I suppose until doing max stress test there shouldn't be differences for x12, am I right?
12. other question: why all the time throttlestop shows temps on CPU something around 8-10C less than hwinfo? at the same moment we can see:
13. Yes, at this time here is something around 0 degrees Im really dissapointed because I was making myself trouble with 45W TDP, this last one 3632QM was really good and cool. Now, even with i5 I have average temps around 45C even with gelid gc extreme - its disgrace for me
14. Were You checking maximal tempereatures under load, for example 5-7 minutes prime or maximal temp during 3dm11 performance settings? How about idle? what are the average temps for few hours of internet etc
15. so is there any point to make comaprison between i5M and i7QM's at 4 thread or should reject i5 and focus on comparison between i7QM's with 8 threads setting. please, take a look on my question about order, from above. I have i7-3630QM, I bought 3635QM but it appeared to be 3630QM
16. Huge thanks for this guide. Do You think x12 would be enough for good assesment for CPU or should we push to the limit and check the highest settings as well? I'll try to do it with 3230, 3630 and 3632 (ordered back). What order should I choose to ensure good comparison? 1. Set the lowest possible mutliplier (don't know why 8x100MHz is possible for Ivy when they supposed to work on 1100MHz as the lowest), 2. Save setting and turn on button, set proper threads (how many if I'd like to compare 3230 vs 3630 vs 3632. 8? 4?). 2. start 32M bench and write down stable values VID and TDP. Is this correct?
17. Yes, with @jot23 we tried use i7-2630QM in 2570p and it was working. After thi, when we were tryingo to swap i5 back, motherboard suddenly fried. Thats over.
18. Here is a proof that there is no point of buying GTX680. Because it is similar with GTX670, there is no statistic or even "subjective" differences in playing in my opinion. GPU is fully loaded by i7-3630QM bu there is no difference is FPS. and here Ypu have proof that there is a reason to buy 35W TDP instead of 45W TDP for small laptops. - - - http://forum.techinferno.com/hp-business-class-notebooks/2537-12-5-hp-elitebook-2570p-owners-lounge-36.html#post77289 FHD, paracel, medium, 64x64.
19. Yea, that was probably main reason why we fried 2570p MB with i7-2630QM I need to resign for 45W TDP. there is no visible improvement in playing/GPU loading but in temps bump is too very visible. Few plots from different setting BF4, it doesn't matter. I suppose You figure out which one is for i5, i7 35W TDP and 45W TDP
20. I have a new CPU (3630QM) for a couple of hours, I did some tests but I have a feeling that even in idle mode, the average temperature is greater than the 3632QM. And it's not 2-3 degrees but about 7-9C. After a few hours the average in idle is around 45C on the cores, while some tests with 3dm11 max recorded on the cores was 81C. In my opinion there is no chance to achieve this temps I got with 3632QM (btw it has only 500 point less in 3dm11 physics - 7500 vx 7000). http://www.nhl.pl/index.php?s=&showtopic=69774&view=findpost&p=724796
21. o yeah I forgot about parking - I'll try it tomorrow If i get my CPU hopefully. if find enough time, i'll do test with GTX670/GTX680, with parking and without
22. PhysicsScore is something around 7k points ind 3dm11. But I've already sold this CPU and i've been waiting for 3635 instead of 3632. I posted few plots with i5 and GTX670/GTX680 comparison yesterday (eGPU thread). There is a proof that I5 is really to weak for something stronger than GTX660. Core load is not stable loaded like during almost sleepy i7QM (50-60% usage). NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3632QM,Hewlett-Packard 17DF
23. But there is a one difference. Core load playing on i5 is not so stable loaded as during i7QM. It should improve min and avg fps in playing, theoretically. First plot: GTX670 on i5M vs i7QM, BF4, FHD, medium, 32x32, blockade. Second plot: GTX670 vs GTX680 on i5M, BF4, FHD, medium, 64x64, blockade.
24. comparison between GTX670 PowerEdition MSI TFIV vs GTX680 OC MSI TFIV. i5-3230M+BF4+medium+FHD+64x64+blockade. few pages ago I mentioned that there is no difference between GTX670 with M and QM CPU, and unfortunatelly probably the same situation will be here, cause this GPU are very similar. Pity there is no differences between GTX670 and GTX680.
