  1. Hey,

I've been looking at the G46 as well.

    The dimensions are 348 x 261 x 22 mm (WxDxH) and it weighs 2.5KG

    The dimensions of the G55 are 384 x 299 x 20 ~51 mm (WxDxH) and it weights 3.8KG

So the G55 is 1.4" wider, 1.55" deeper and a bit thicker overall.

Personally the 2.9lbs difference is the deal breaker for me.

They are essentially the same laptop just the G46 is smaller.

This shows how difficult it is to get to the HDD/mSata. If I do end up purchasing I will be going with HIDEvolution for 2 reasons. 1: I live in Ireland so Best Buy isn't an option and 2: They can do the upgrades for me.

The only thing thats turning me away from it is the warranty. Its a 1 year US warranty so its useless over here (unless I want to bay the $100 shipping + $100 returning shipping + 21% tax). If you're in the US you have nothing to worry about from a warranty stand point.

One thing that might turn someone away from it as well is the 720p screen. Personally I've never used anything above 720p on a laptop so I'm not worried.

    Hope this helps! :)

I'm not in the USA, I'm in Brazil :D

I'm a little afraid of buying another 720p screen laptop since my m14x have a 720p screen and it doesn't look nice.

  2. The M14XR2 system boards are kind of scares but they do pop up on eBay every now and then I have purchased two of them one from the UK and one from the United States on eBay, you just have to keep checking and as far as the M14XR1 and the R2 the chessies are identical and it will definitely fit even the small DMC bored from the R1 will fit on the M14XR2 motherboard which will enable the msata slot, the only difference is you will have to purchase a heatsink for the M14XR2 board because the GPU is in a different position on the R2 motherboards.

how much did you paid ?

  3. Anyone here already have the asus g46vw ? is it really smaller than the asus g55 ?

    it runs cooler ?

I'm thinking in sell my m14x r1 and buy a g46vw or a g55vw. My unique fear of buying the g55vw is that it is very big and very heavy.

  4. I will do a re-paste on my m14x r1, I have searched a lot in the last days and haven't found yet what paste will be the best one.

My choice is among these : IC diamond, tuniq ( tx-4 or tx-2 ?), artic silver mx-4, Liquid Ultra.

anyone can help me to choose which one will help my laptop to stay bellow the 90s celcius ?

  5. ive been working on a Mod for the R2 for a bit now. the problem is you need to cut the bottom of the case open as there is no room at all. for anything....

    M14x Heatsink Mod

i actually havent 100% settled on anything yet. more parts are in the mail.

was playing with heat pipes. but not sure this is a final solution ether...

main issue with just adding RAM sinks is they seem to work all fine and good when air is moving across them, but when just sitting there passivly they end up soaking up a lot of heat energy and just holding on to it. so you just hanging out browsing the web etc. and after a while your CPU hits 50-55c and then the fan stays on for like 5-7min... no joke.

whats happening is the heatpipes are not only cooling your CPU at that point, they are also cool the RAM sinks and all their stored energy....

my current idea is a second fan. problem is, clearance... i have a 30x30x3mm fan on its way. we will see how this works out. :59:

If you don't use the optical drive you can remove it and use this new space to put a big fan there. You will have to cut this division of the frame that I marked in red to let the air flow pass.

I'm thinking in doing that on my m14x r1, re-paste and then overclock the gpu.
