  1. Hi Svl7,

I am still not able to backup my bios. I have not attempted it for a while (had given up) now I came back to it because my network speeds are horrible with this stupid stock wifi card. I was able to do it before but then had to ship my laptop into Lenovo because the hard drive controller fried out. When I got my laptop back they had replaced the mother board with a similar one and I attempted to hack the bios again this time with no luck.

    Whe

I did everything like the instructions stated and now came across a new error. I got ERROR 360: Invalid Block Erase Size value in "fparts.txt".

I have no idea what to do next. Any ideas?

    Thank you,

    Update

I am back to getting Error 103 again!

  2. Yeah, lifting helps a lot, no need for a cooler imo. If you want lower temps then lift your system and repaste it if you feel up to the task. Also make sure that the cooling fins are free of dust. If you want to go hardcore you could slightly modify the heatsink in order to increase the pressure on the die.

Did you try the whole procedure with the original parts file? (Not tht 'fix' one)

Yes I did. Then I would get Error 104. Both Fparts files did not work. I did not want to flash the fixed file that i had created from the other motherboard because it may cause issues.

    Thanks,

Hello! As my problem is close to you can you tell is you laptop comes with i7 3630Q processor and win 8 preinstalled? I have the same BIOS 5DCN89WW(V8.00) and BIOS utility ver 3.7. Earlier I ask slv7 and others what version from the yop post can be used to flash, but have no reply. It seems newcomers are not welcome there, as there is no attention paid to their questions at all ...

    Hi Guys,

To test what f-parts file worked. Just make a new backup! This time remember what fparts file worked to create the backup and use the same fparts file again to flash. Sometimes one file works other times the other works. This way you will know what file works for you for sure! :)

  3. Thanks, I forgot to upload the latest version... Actually the problem isn't the tool itself, only the parts file.

I am getting Error 103 also. The hard drive controller on my laptop went out and I had to ship it back to lenovo to replace the main board. Once i got it back i attempted to reflash the bios as I had done so previously.

I can not get past the backing up of the current bios due to ERROR 103: There are no supported SPI flash devices installed.....

Is there a new FParts file?

  4. Nope, that setting doesn't have any influence on the flash method we're using. I really don't know what's going on... especially since it worked for you with the other mod, as I mentioned.

IT WORKED!!!! The problem was my USB stick. When I was applying the fix I noticed that it took a long time. Then i created another flash drive /usb stick with the format tool and applied the fix while the files were on my computer and not the usb stick. I copied everything back and it works! The white list fix works perfectly. I was able to install another Wi-Fi card that I had laying around and am typing this from my lenovo wirelessly. Thank you so much.

  5. Well, now that's a weird error... cause you already managed to flash v8.01, right? Are you sure you followed all the steps exactly? Flashed from Dos? Your fixed file has the same size as your original?

Yes same exact file size. Yes i was able to flash v801 before. I am going to try another USB stick. I am doing a full format to see if that helps. Also in the bios there is a setting for "BIOS Back Flash" do you think that has anything to do with it?

  6. This has been discussed, and seeing that apparently going from bios v8.00 to v8.01 without updating the rest of the firmware causes issues, I can only recommend not doing it. We first need an official Lenovo bios update in order to actually update it. Until then it's better if you stay on your current version.

Agreed do not attempt to update from 8.00 to 8.01. It will cause major boot up problems. I did it on accident and had a really hard time recovering and re flashing v8.00 back.

Svl7 did you get my 8.00 bios dump? Would that be enough to unlock the bios and remove the white list? My wifi internet is driving me crazy lol.

  7. I have no idea, if your system booted up well after flashing, then it can't really be related with the bios image. Do you have any 3rd party hardware running in your system?

It only boots as long as i dont shut the system down completely. I sent you a PM-Email that contains a BIOS Dump if you want to look at it. Otherwise its ok. I just sucks how it works for everyone else lol.

    Thanks for everything so far!

I do have a SSD installed?

  8. This is all okay, you have write access. Make sure you type the flash command correctly. Check the first post.

You are right, It was a error when i was typing in the commands. But now here is a complete overview of the issues.

    Update:

I am able to update the bios with the V801fix.rom once the update is completed I run into boot up problems. The only way I can boot up is by holding the power button down for 30 seconds and removing the battery.

    This is what happened:

I made the backup of the current bios

A applied the fix to my backupbios.bin

I flashed the new file that was created (V801fix.rom) to my bios.

I CTRL + ALT + DEL my system to restart and set defaults in the bios (last time I did not do this the system did not boot up)

Once the system starts to boot I entered the BIOS screen. I set the bios to default setting and then reviewed all the settings to see if they were correct. Then I saved and exited the bios and got the system to boot. Everything is good so far. Then I shut the system down and ran into the same problems

I booted the system and it worked! Then I knew that I should attempt to shutdown to see what would happen.

I shutdown the computer and then attempted to boot it back up. This is when the problem kicks in. The keyboard lights up, the CD-rom drive makes some noise, the screen does not light up at all. Last time this happened I attempted to connect to a external monitor and that did not work either.

What works is placing the USB dos drive that was created into the same port when you flashed, then removing the battery, and disconnecting the power.

Then I pushed the power button for 30 seconds, while continuing to hold the power button I connected the power supply for 30 seconds. I got a Lenovo screen for a few seconds and immediately pressed F12 to boot back into DOS and restore the backupbios.bin that was created.

I can send you my backup bios to see if their is something wrong with my original bios.

  9. I attempted to flash the v801fix.rom once again and i am running into the same bootup problems.

    First in DOS I get:

  11. Hi svl7,

I followed the instructions to the dot and now the computer is not booting up. I know that the bios works because the keyboard lights up and FN + spacebar key that controls the keyboard illumination works… I am not able to do anything else. I have tried an external monitor and resetting the cmos by removing all power and holding down the power button for 30 seconds. I am stuck and could really use your help.

    Thanks,

After about 50 attempts I was able to get the system to boot into dos and was able to restore the backup bios that I had created. For me the USB stick that was used had to be in the same USB port for the system to boot.

  13. Coming soon, most is ready, need to add some stuff to the first post. Can you post a GPU-Z screenshot showing your 660m? Also I could use a second dump of the v8.01 bios.

I just got a Y580 yesterday with windows 8. I am willing to help however i can. What utility did you use to dump the BIOS
