  1. So i did what as above and had some interesting results But first... 1) how do I disable the radeon in bios? Once upon boot I press ESC and get to a systems menu. Then I look at configurations and I see nothing of the sort. I know my computer has amd grahpics because the sticker is on the computer, and if I install the drivers I get 7470M. 2) I disabled the radeon in device manager. Uninstalled the drivers. Then F8ed while windows would boot. I ended up getting the gtx 660 ti to "working" under device manager but nothing would happen. Then, I plugged out the expresscard and plugged it back in only to run into error 43 again. Any ideas? sigh.... Thank you Frula and Nando.
  2. Guys, Can anyone help me on my issue? I am really frustrated and don't know what I am doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. SYSTEM: HP Probook 4730s, 8gb ram, Win7 Ultimate (Korean ver.) EGPU: PE4L 2.1b + EVGA GTX 660 ti I've had this setup work for a while. Unfortunately, after my card blew up due to a electric mess in my house, EVGA replaced my card. The first time I replaced the card, I didn't have any problems. However, once I shut down the computer and turned it on the next day, the dreaded error 43 in the device manager persisted. Due to the frustration I figured I do a full reinstallation of windows 7. I also reinstalled my intel graphics driver from the intel website. Unfortunately, the error 43 persists. Basically, my problem is that once I plug in the express card, the screen flickers, then it just comes back onto the laptop LCD and the display does not go to the monitor. I'm basically out of options as far as the solutions I am aware of are concerned. I've already looked at the troubleshooting guide but I have no idea what any of that's saying. Do I need setup 1.x? I don't even know what that is other than the fact that it's a dos program? Either way, thanks guys. perhaps I'm too noob to be even messing with the EGPU scene. Thanks
  3. Anyone please help! Should I just format my Harddisk and pray for the best? Sign...
  4. No bios update. The error is error 43 under device manager. I've already read the troubleshoot page for that error but im too dumb to understand what any of thats saying. Any other guesses?
  5. Guys, I've had an EVGA 660 ti on a HP Probook 4730s. Things have worked beautifully for months with a few hiccups here and there. Couple weeks ago, a power outtage fried my card. Luckily, EVGA sent me a replacement graphics card. However, the new graphic card won't work as part of my EGPU anymore. What happens is that once I plug in the express card, the screen turns off on my laptop and then tries to turn the monitor on. However, that doesn't happen and the laptop screen just comes back on. What's weird is when I first received the card and plugged it in, the EGPU worked like a charm. Only after I had shut down the computer for a day or so and then plugged in the EGPU, it started doing this. Hence, I know my PE4L or the ^660ti are fine. My monitor also works fine. Please help. I've tried reinstsalling the drivers of the video card but that did not help. Thank you
  6. Guys, For the past few months I've powered my 660 ti with an old PSU that I bought back in 06 for my EGPU (and was working fine) Yesterday, a power outtage blew out my power supply. Since I have the CX 430 as a backup, I thought I'd fine. However, the CX430 only has 1 PCI-E power connector, the 660 TI requires two. I remember Nando telling me CX430 would be fine for the card, so any tips on how to get this to work? Thanks all.
  7. Guys, I had an EGPU on my HP Probook 4730s with PE4L 2.1b + GTX 660ti I had it working for a while now. But after my latest move to a different apartment, the computer refuses to work with it. None of the hardware is broken or damaged. Here's what happened. 1. I first had an NVIDIA gtx 660ti. Had problems but Nando directed me to uninstall my onboard grahpics driver from HP and try the intel one. Everything worked well from that point. 2. I learned that EVGA had a better warranty than straight Nvidia. So I returned my Nvidia card and put the EVGA one in place. 3. Things worked well for a while, however, from time to time, when I plugged the EGPU in, the wifi and all other USB ports would just get shot and the display would not switch to my monitor. 4. When things worked, the EGPU would plug in, then it would shut off the wifi for a few seconds, then the display would flicker onto my monitor and everything would work. Including wifi. So now im considering actually reimaging my computer because of this. I don't know if that's gonna make it work, but if there's anything else that can be done, I wanted to ask here. Thank you so much. Please let me know if there are pictures or other informatoin that would help give proper advice. Again, a sincere thanks.
  8. Guys, I currently have a HP Probook 4730s with PE4L 2.1b setup along with my Geforce 660 TI. Things are working beautifully ever since Nando's driver tip. Thank you again Nando, you're a lifesaver. I have some questions to any of you if I may.. 1. I am thinking of returning my card and getting the EVGA Geforce 660 TI superclocked with 3GB of ram. Is this worth it or will it be bottlenecked by the PE4L and not make any difference. Overall, is it worth it at all to upgrade from my current card? 2. After a few crashes, I no longer have a "hibernate" option on the start menu of my windows 7. I looked everywhere for a solution but they're all saying switch things in the power settings, which I already have. Nothing's getting my hibernate button back. Any ideas? 3. Now that I've got my setup working, I'd be glad to volunteer to do some benchmarking and add onto Nando's stat collection. How can I help?
  9. WORKS!!!!!! THANK YOU NANDO THANK YOU NANDO THANK YOU NANDO. A few questions.... 1. My older video is now seeing an error (10) in device manager. It's now listed as "Standard VGA graphic adapter" is this normal? 2. Does that mean without an EGPU my computer pretty much does not have a working videocard? Will I be able to play games at a friend's house without an EGPU at all? 3. If this is a problem how do I solve it? Thank you!!!!
  10. What am I forgetting? So I've got PE4L 2.1b + Nvidia 660 GTX ti + Corsair CX 430 to power the thing. I set it up and the hardware gets detected. The drivers install but then I end up seeing this The first error I get is error 38. "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)" After rebooting the computer, then I get Code 43. "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems." The computer CANNOT start with the expresscard inserted in. I decided to get creative and tried to disable the laptop's default graphics and rebooted the computer. To my surprise, the card showed as "working." Under device manager but the Nvida control panel did not recognize any cards. Of course, nothing worked as I was stuck on laptop's lowest resolutions and none of the games would boot saying "card not supported." Basically put, nothing worked. I then went here: http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/2129-diy-egpu-troubleshooting-faq.html#main_faq2 and tried to download the 270.61 driver as described, Unfortunately, that link is down. It also seems outdated, as the posts are in 2011. So back to square one as shown above. My laptop GPU working but my EGPU obviously NOT working with an error 43 in the device manager. Here's the system specs: HP ProBook 4730s. running second generation i7 with 8GB of RAM. (Sandy Bridge machine). Expresscard slot 2.0 Windows 7 64bit Ultimate K (korean ver) Please help. ------------------UPDATE 2/20/2012 5:14PM USA EST----------------- Okay.. I just realized the GTX 660TI requires TWO PCI 6pin connectors from power supply. The CX430 only has one PCI-e connector.... Is that a problem? Also..... . For no reason at all, now I am seeing all three devices are functioning....but nothing is working and neither is the nvidia control panel recognizing any cards. Please help. Thank you
  11. Can anyone please confirm what I am about to get myself into is okay for GEN 2 support? (1) one of PE4L 2.1B or PE4H-EC060A V3.2 (if Bplus ever puts it back on their page....?) (2) Geforce 660ti (3) A Power supply to correctly power the thing. I have a HP ProBook4730s. SPecifications are here: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/sm/WF06b/321957-321957-64295-3955552-3955552-5060893-5173291.html?dnr=1 Briefly, it's a sandy bridge machine with expresscard 2.0 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and 8 GB of ram.
  12. Wow, thank god I joined this community after this finding. Oddly, Bplus has also taken out the Pe4L 2.1b EC line and the PE4H 3.2 line from their "buy it now" page. www.HWtools.net ?????????? Okay, to get Gen 2 support, I need to purchase a PE4L 2.1b or a PE4H 3.2 right everyone / nando? This is the system I'm going to be adding the EGPU to. HP ProBook 4730s Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR) (LJ525UT) specifications - HP Products and Services Products It's an HP Probook 4730s, a Sandy bridge machine with switchable graphics that has express card 2.0. (though I've heard all that from a smart friend of mine. I'm not smart enough to figure that out myself.) SO here I go...purchasing (1) one of PE4L 2.1B or PE4H-EC060A V3.2 (if Bplus ever puts it back on their page....?) (2) Geforce 660ti (3) A Power supply to correctly power the thing. Do I have this right....? A little scared after the latest finding.
  13. Thank you, i thought the entire time 2.4 supports Gen2. If you look at their chart though, it does say in red "supports gen2". What gen 2 is it speaking of? I have an express card 2.0 and a real knowledgeable friend of mine recommended pe4h ec060a 2.4. Hence the question about wondering why the "buy" page of their site no longer lists it in their options.
  14. Thank you Nando, you're always so helpful. So anyone having trouble actually BUYING the PE4H-EC060A 2.4 ? The order page does NOT have it listed on their website. A quick google search showed this site : PE4H-EC060A v2.4 (PCIe passive adapter with EC060A Express Card adapter) - M-FACTORS Storage I'm assuming it's the same thing? Anyone familiar with this vendor and can I trust them? Also anyone familiar with this? PE4H-EC060A V3.2 (PCIe x16 Adapter) - M-FACTORS Storage What's the difference between the two products? (2.4 v 3.2) The casing is pretty attractive though the price...not so much.
  15. Hello all, A friend of mine told me to purchase a GTX660Ti if I had "switchable graphics." He also told me I'd know if I did have switchable graphics by checking the display section of my device manager. He told me I'd see "HD3000+HD6490M/7470M. The instructions seemed pretty easy to follow until, I saw this under my device manager: As you see, I've got: Intel HD graphics family AMD radeon HD 7470M. So, do I have switchable graphics? Once I figure that out I'm planning to go get the 660Ti And finally, If I do get the 660Ti, I plan on buying the Corsair CX430 V2 430W PSU to power it. Would that work? Thank you all
