  1. The crashing happening on battery might be due to the cards overloading the battery - the battery can't supply the necessary current. I'm not entirely sure, but I think svl7's vBIOS doesn't allow for the GPU's to throttle to lower clocks when gaming on battery - this would overload your battery & could cause it to shut down. To test my theory you can use GPUz or other GPU monitoring tool to monitor your GPU clocks when gaming on battery to see what's going on. Gaming on battery is not really feasible anyway, with the stock Dell vBIOS the cards will be throttled & performance will be awful, as will battery life, gaming on outlet is really the only way to go with serious gaming laptops.

Referring to your 1st point, about system instability with your overclock on your second GPU - I just think your overclock is unstable, either more voltage required or less Mhz. If it's your memory overclock that's proving it to be unstable, then increasing the voltage won't help - the adjustable voltage only applies to the core. (I think a 330W adapter is enough for 765M sli, even when heavily overclocked.)

Thanks for the reply, but what is the maximum safest voltage. Im going to shoot up to 1.1v, but if I overclock 1 card, the overclocking is stable, if I overclock both cards, the system crash almost instantly.

I guess if i want to game on battery ( I play dota2, not a demanding game) I have to lower frequency of the gpu.

  2. Anyways, I tried the AW17 version and I could push it up to 180+Mhz core + 900Mhz memory clock, for some reason my limits here are due to power consumption! my ac adapter cant keep up! I should mention that I have a pair of these cards in my AW 18 chases. I should also note even without overclocking the card, fps drops randomly and sometimes games froze if the ac adapter is not connected. Anyways, here is my original vbios.

Btw, I didnt pump the voltage. should I set it to 1.1v? and how?

Sv17 deserves more attention in OCing community, I donated already and I wish others to do so, and Im willing to even donate more.

    Cya.

With respect to my previous post, I pumped my voltage to 1.05 and I managed to pump my gpu by +300Mhz and memory clock by 850Mhz, but the problem is whenever I apply those settings to my secondary gpu, hell goes loose and system becomes very unstable. My alienware power supply can provide 330W at max. The only problem with this bios is when I keep default stock settings, my games run smoothly on battery then of all the sudden they drop to 10~ fps and sometimes system crash. I guess there is an issue with p-states but Im afraid I cant fix it. If somebody owns an Alienware 18 with a pair of 765m GTX, please share!

  3. For those who are curious, the problem is in a motherboard controller, I eventually replaced the motherboard and everything is functioning properly now. The problem is I replaced thermal paste by CoolLab Ultra, and when I was tightening cpu screws. I noticed that one of the scrolls is jammed and can not budge..... On top of that, since the laptop was disassembled 5-6 times, some of the keyboard clips, which connects to the chases and the motherboard are weakened. In addition, there are 9 screw holes on the keyboard that connects to motherboard, they are made from aluminum, however, one of them got broken due to frequent assembly/assembly process! I fixed that using a good superglue, but I have to weld it on the keyboard.... As for the CPU screw, I tried to use a clamps to rotate the stupid screw but again I ended up wasting my time.

In the end, this laptop is self-aware, and refuse to stop giving problems.

    Thank you all.

  4. Is there any big differences between this and normal Win8?

Cause i downloaded something what supposed to be WIN8 Alienware edition but it look like a normal WIN8 to me...

k, I take a backup using partition wizard or whatever, then Im going to send it to you through ftb, or I can make a rapid share or whatever filehosting server account. Im waiting for your call.

  5. So I guess that's it then? No one knows how to fix the switchable graphics problem?

I dont understand your problem, your card was initially flashed as clevo and you bricked it, after that, someone fixed it for you but you cant use intel's gpu?

if this is the case, you have to download dell display driver, or on display something like that.

  7. As You've probably seen on the forum before i had some problems with my M18x, so after some trying Dell changed it for me.

    Now I have Alienware 18 with 2x GTX 780m~~

Everything is super cool but there's one small problem. By accident I lost my recovery partition and I am looking for a Alienware Win 8 ISO to download as Dell refuses to grant me access for that.

If anybody could help in any way i'd be soo happy and greatful!

    Peace!

I can take a backup of my partition and upload it.

  8. glad to see its getting fixed at least.

This might be a complete offtopic, but I want to be an active member here. This forum in particular has no idiots and kiddos. Im going to stick here for a while.

Also this is might be off topic, I called the original seller of the laptop, he told me he got the laptop from a warehouse or something as I understood, but when I called alienware they told me its from a retailer that we cant give its

name. Due to this, Im starting to believe this laptop got stolen some how, dont get me wrong but the price is too good to be good. A 2000$ unit is being sold for 1350$! I knew something is wrong with the deal and I risked in it.

Sadly, I wasnt fortunate enough to get a fully functional unit! In the end, Im complaining on stupid cosmetic lights that has no effect on performance; and to be frank I was greedy to get a replacement with 860m GTX or better. At

last, I googled my issue but I read a post somewhere that flickering light has to do with a controller on the motherboard. Does anybody out there know how to fix this? Is it truly a motherboard issue? Sometimes my keyboard lights

keep flickering on and off every few seconds. I have to plug the ac cord in and out to half the flickering!

    Regards and best wishes.

There are forms to fill out to change ownership of the pc which would transfer any warranty that came with it but that takes time and sounds like this is past 30 days from purchase date? Returning it to the person for your money back would be best if they will.

Transferring the warranty isnt an issue, the authorized repair agent is going to fix it for free.
