  1. Wow, this board has exploded with the addition of Aikimox! I replied to your post at that "other place", but here's the meat of it: "I did a few things to my 2570p that you might want to consider. I grabbed an expansion bay caddy and threw in the hdd from my old laptop (Acer 1810tz...RIP), put in 8gb of low voltage ram, and the arctic silver already mentioned. Mine came with the 128gb ssd, which helps out the battery life quite a bit vs a spinning disk (expansion bay is set to spin down after 2 minutes of not being used on battery). The newest bios is F.41, but keep in mind that anything newer than f.20 is RSA signed so you can't go back. My bluetooth reception sucks, but if you get the October 2012 drivers (go in revision history) it gets noticeably better." @bjorm - sorry to hear that your mobo fried with the Sandy Bridge...and the IPS to a lesser extent. Would it be possible to watch the discharge rate of the system on battery power to see if it exceeds 65w? I know that there are some battery configurations that reduce power consumption, but if the system's power consumption is less than or equal to 50w or so on the stock chip then we shouldn't see a discharge with the normal power supply. Not the best solution, I know, but it shouldn't take too long to give it a shot. Welcome! Good luck with the CPU swap!
  2. Follow this thread, see if any of this works: http://forum.techinferno.com/diy-e-gpu-projects/2326-lenovo-x230t-partial-success.html Nando suggested a DSDT override, search around for how to knock that out. Looks like you'll need Setup 1.2 to make it work, so hit Nando up and work out the details with him. It seems that the X230t isn't the easiest computer to get an eGPU working on, compared to a Dell or HP. Your power supply could also be an issue if it doesn't have enough juice on the 12V rail. I'm not sure how much you need, but probably something like 12-15 amps. If you bought a cheapie psu you're asking for trouble. Good luck!
  3. Is anyone else having bluetooth reception issues? If I move my hand to use the trackpad, my BT headset will cut out. This happens with two different headsets, and they worked fine with my old Acer laptop. I'm thinking that it might be due to the metal case but not sure. Thanks! Edit: I went to the HP driver page for the laptop and selected the bluetooth link. If you click on revision history, there's two newer versions of the BT software, October 2012 and April 2013. I'm running the October version and it has improved the function of the bluetooth module greatly!
  4. If you're still looking for ram, I bought these a while back: ADATA XPG Gaming Series Model AXDS1600GC4G9-2 Laptop Memory - Newegg.com I got it because it's low voltage and low latency memory; I dropped my old 4gb stick into another machine. WEI is currently at 7.6 for memory and 6.5 for both graphics. I know it's not the best way to compare systems, but it's quick and everyone can do it. I would caution against overclocking the CPU or GPU, go with Nando's recommendation of a quad core or eGPU. While running KSP I have seen temps in the high 90's. I put arctic silver on the CPU which dropped max temps by about 5 degrees. Not sure what CPU you have now, but I have a i5-3360 and it's plenty fast If you go with the quad core, please report back how well it works for you!
  5. I bought this laptop a few month's back on Nando's recommendation and it's been great. A little sad about the WWAN whitelist but I'll live. I just upgraded to the F.40 bios and my memory WEI went from 7.5 to 7.6. HP did list "Optimized memory settings to improve reliability of the memory system" as an improvement. Now to get Setup 1.x and reduce my battery power consumption... Nando, if you're keeping an eye on this, would you recommend a GTX 660 Ti as an eGPU for this laptop? I plan on using the internal screen only. Thanks!
