  1. you need to unlock the overclocking ability in ccc using msi afterburner, then this will create an xml file in your app data/ ati folder, from here you can edit the voltage in the xml to what you want. Well except under 1.0v, I can't figure that part out.

there is an exact guide written by someone on the net somewhere but for some reason I am unable to find it now.

Edit: found it 7970M benchmark results (ONLY) - Page 68

Thank you so much for that. I followed the steps and everything seems to be correct. I changed the value from 975 to 1050, saved, and if I close the filed and reopen it it's still at 1050. However if I try running a render test in GPU-Z I'm still maxing out at 975, so I go back and check the file and it resets it to 975 everytime. Any idea why it's doing this?

  2. I have restarted since and the xml file seems to have finally saved my choice of 975. However when I'm playing a game it is still using the 1v. Will closing and restarted ccc fix this issue?

Edit: after a bit of testing it seems this method will allow me over overvolt to whatever i want but if you try to undervolt below 1v it will just revert to default, I have tried every combination in the xml file of 0975, 975, 0.975 and 950 in case it will only drop in 50's. however it just reverts to 1v as soon as the 3d clock come in, bugger, really need a way to undervolt my card. Using a dell card in a m15x on the latest 13.3 drivers btw.

I'm curious did you try overvolting your card beyond 1050v? If so did it work out? I'm stuck at 0.975v. Not matter how many times I flash. So I'm trying to find a way to get my voltage back to stock.

  3. Ok so my voltage is still stuck at 0.975v. I flashed the stock ROM twice, the second time when trying to flash it said "Flash has already been programmed". So I used the command in Svl7s guide to save the current/original BIOS to my usb key. I then read the file and it really is the stock ROM.. 850/1200 with 1050 3d voltage.

So why is my voltage still stuck at 0.975? Anyone with any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

  4. I am sure there maybe other ways to do the order but this is how I did it... 1) Flash BIOS wanted 2) Uninstall ATI drivers 3) Device manager >> Uninstall Display Driver 4) Reboot system 5) Install ATI Drivers 6) Test System for changes

I'm so sick of this. I just tried all of that and it still didn't work. Still stuck at 0.975v. I don't understand why it's doing this.

When I flash a new BIOS all the values are still the same. Did that continue to happen for you even when it finally changed?

Also I don't understand steps 2 and 3 in your instructions. Are you talking about the same thing in both? Simply uninstalling the devices drivers?

I just tried this all multiple times with different drivers and nothing is working. So frustrating ><

  5. Update, try turbo boost at the top right touch bar. When I had my Nvidia 260m it would always cause bad performance, but try it with the 7970. I noticed it lowers the voltage on the 7970 further and lowering temps greatly. If I keep turbo boost on I think I will need to now overclock the core and memory to get better performance from the 7970 since the lowered voltage lags its performance. I will have to test this further

EDIT: New update! I have figured it out... svl7's BIOS work fine but I now know why it didn't result in a complete flash right after. Do exactly as he has posted but you must uninstall all drivers from your m15x and then go to Device Manager and uninstall the card. Then reinstall drivers and reset. You will then experience the flash as intended... Who knew right!?! Hope this helps anyone else who might have over looked these steps :)

When you say uninstall all drivers from your M15X are you talking about all GPU drivers? And by reset you mean reboot your laptop? Also what order d'you do this in. Flash, then uninstall drivers, reinstall, reboot? Or Uninstall drivers first, flash, then reinstall?

  6. Man that is so strange how it didn't flash right away and appeared later. I hope that happens to me. If anyone has any ideas on why this is happening please let me know. So sick of being stuck at 0.975v. I just want to get back to stock.

As for the 85C shutdowns it's so random for me. I'll be playing for about 30mins with decent temps 65-75c. Then it will randomly reach +80C and eventually shutdown :(

  7. Looks like I made some progress on the temps by flashing again and it did lower the voltage to .975v but it won't flash the .95v... MSI & ATI clocking tools will not unlock voltage but I did lower the core clock to 800 and memory to 1000. With these adjustments and the ones I mentioned above I can finally pass WEI (peak temp 74C) and FFXIV (peak temp 80C). I wish I could somehow get my game peak temp down to at least 75C or maybe 78C. If I run the game for long periods it peaks into lower 80C. My system shut down at 85C due to the high heat. Anyone have a brilliant suggestion for getting it down further? Thanks :)

Ashram how did you manage to flash? I'm still getting same old/new values for everything. Did you do anything different or did it randomly work?

  8. Hi all,

I have been working on my upgrade from 260m to 7970m for the last week. Reading through forums I was able to install Part Number 747M2 with new Fujipoly Premium System Builder Thermal Pad, Arctic Silver 5, grinding the Xplate sockets for heatsink/gpu contact and utilizing the foil MOD for the fan/heatsink. I am running stock 850c/1200m and 1.0V. The problem is I am still having heat issues when I try to run FFXIV or the WEI. The temp is peaking above 85C! It does seem to want to stay around 75C on average but the peaks will shut things down. I thought I would try and flash the BIOS to under volt the card to get it in line. I followed the instructions and flashed the BIOS. When I flash the MODvBIOS from svl7 for .975v & .95v with the correct checksums it had the same OLD/NEW values for everything. I test each flash and the voltage did not adjust. It still caps at 1.0V and same heating issues. Also none of the clocking/voltage adjusting programs allow for a decrease in voltage either. It seems like the settings are locked and I am left with GPU that runs hot... Does anyone have the same issues or any ideas on how to solve the problem? Thanks ahead of time for advice! b(~_^)d d-(^_^)-b (b^_^)b

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I previously flashed to 0.975v and now anytime I try to flash any different undervolted bios or stock bios it gives me the exact same old and new values as well. I've literally flashed the card almost 10 times now trying to figure this out.

As far as clocking/voltage programs not being adjustable, use MSI afterburner. Find the directory file and look for the Msiafterburner.cfg file. Open it in notepad and find this line: UnofficialOverclockingMode = 0. Change the value to 1 and save. You should have adjustable increments now but I'm not sure if you can adjust voltage with it.

  9. What was the p/n on the 7970m chip it came off? I'm working through a fifth 7970m replacement from Dell now, but it seems they're out of all but the 113-C42904A1-119 parts what with these bad .022 vBIOSs. I messed with hex editing to look for the differences in some of the older vBIOS mods, but it's a bit beyond my league.

Were you talking to me or answering someone else?

  10. I'm having a very strange problem. I flashed my 7970m with the 0.975 undervolt bios. I'm running a 740q CPU so I figured undervolting isn't really necessary for me. Wanted to flash back to stock voltage. I've now flashed the Dell7970m.ROM twice and it's still stuck at 0.975. I even tried flashing the 1000.0v bios and still stuck at 0.975.

I know it flashed correctly because when I tried flashing to stock the second time it said "adapter has already been flashed with this" or something to that extent.

Anyone have any ideas whats going on?

  11. I installed my 7970m a week ago and I'm having problems getting decent performance out of it. I'm running the 740Q CPU. With farcry3 I'm averaging around 30fps and dips down in the 20's at times. I've monitored my stock clocks they're fine. My temp's are fine too. I don't go far over 70.

I just ran 3dmark11 and my combined score is low: Graphic score: 6293 Physics score: 2235 and Combined Score: 1972.

Anyone know what might be the issue?
