I will provide the graphic card heatsink mod in my implementation for alienware 17

the best  solution to the problem for Thermal Throttling

i tested nvidia 880m and temperature dropped a to 74c max

the project  it would not work without help  Mr Klem which helped to lower the clock speed and modified the bios

bios modded via klem in link

    the clock changed via KLEM

    GPU Clock: 902 MHz
    Boost Clock: 928 MHz
    Memory Clock: 1250 MHz

    1. Completely uninstall MSI Afterburner (if it installed) with all settings. Reboot laptop.

    2. Download and extract archive luks.rar

    4. Flash your vBIOS mod (just run the command file flash.bat ). Reboot laptop.

    5. Done.

Also, I recommend after any vBIOS flashing, then reinstall NVIDIA drivers with enabled option "Clean Install".

vbios its on topic below also

    everything its on this topic

    what we need

-aluminium tape or copper tape (i used copper tape )

    -copper plate 0.25mm thickness

-adhesive (you can used special one or super glue )

    -Shears for cutting sheet metal

    -willing to work--

YOU CAN ALSO NOTICE WHEN LAPTOP WORKING NORMAL IDE , THE GRAPHICS FAN DOES NOT TURN OFTEN AND HEATSING WORKS IN PASSIVE MODE AT 46-49C TEMP

    3dmark 2011

    performance test  5x on row  72c   8144pkt

    extreme test 5x row  74c     2809pkt

all pictures of project in the link

    https://files.fm/u/mcr77bhwr

the modification will also work with other graphics cards for example with a similar modification on alienware 18 gtx 1060 working 70c-75c max

MY OPINION 880M  SAME Architecture Kepler have to high core clock(+183mhz)

i tested on alienware 17 gtx 780m and temperature was 76-78c max

880m with standard clock have always thermal throttling issue the nvidia want upgrade 780m added 8gb ram raising the clocks she didn"t think about it

nvidia in gtx 970m, 980m (Maxwell architecture ) thermal throttling issue  was resolved

    i tested 970m and 980m in alienware 18 and temperature max 76c -78c

the gtx 1060m in alienware 18 have always 70-75c max

  3. done i just testing card with 3dmark 2011 and will be see

    the clock changed via KLEM

    GPU Clock: 902 MHz
    Boost Clock: 928 MHz
    Memory Clock: 1250 MHz

NEW THERMAL PASTE KRYONAUT thermal grizzly

    Thermal Conductivity 12,5 W/mk

ide temperature  from 49-50 now 46-48

temperature dropped from 88c-92c to 81c

    3dmark running 5x in row

    the score 3dmark 2010 dropped from 8370pkt

    to 8010pkt

but temperature still its high 81c

what its the best setting clock to this gpu 880m  to 75c ?

  4. my 880m in alienware 17 always overheating to 92c

    can someone help underclocking to

    GPU Clock: 900 MHz
    Boost Clock: 930 MHz
    Memory Clock: 1250 MHz

its best config for alienware 17 gtx  880m and max temperature on this 75 c

    can someone editing and help

    regards mario

  5. i started do my alienware and temperatures are reduced by a few degrees c

    tested

    cpu 4930xm 2x 880m

    project in the testing phase

i do similar mod in alienware m17x r2 but i used silver plate 925 and was ok

    on

on the top should be aluminium tape i ordered and waiting

its 4-5 C different than Heatsink no 1 with no mod

and 3-4c  with other card  heatsing no 2 with no mod

with silver plate 925 different is -2C-3C   tested in alienware m17x r2 but silver plate its now expensive around 35-40 pound for plate 25cmx10cm
