  1. The 485M was originally written on the R3's tech specs page and then removed. I'm guessing for whatever reason, Dell decided not to use it. They'll probably wait on a cheaper GTX 580 and use that is my guess. BTW guys, someone over on NBR got an IBM thinkpad, put in 2920xm and found they could not adjust the TDP or multipliers. Hopefully this won't be the case with the M18x but we'll see..this new lockbit crap from Intel has me worried.

    Multi should be fully adjustable.

If the rest of the SB crew is any sign, I wouldn't count on being able to adjust TDP.

  2. I can say with 100% certainty that the "over 100.5" thing is a baseless rumor. Although it didn't even post (and I had to reset every time), I tried 101.5, 101, 100.9, etc...all the way down to my particular 2630's sweet spot at 103.4

I've also read that ASUS and MSI have both made statements against the 100.5 comments, but have never seen said statements myself.

......Not that an extra 50khz is really going to offer much of anything.

  3. The voltages aren't able to be raised at this point on the 6970m, my current rig is throwing the same issues that when I go over a certain point my scores start dropping pretty drastically by hundreds of points for every 5-10mhz. On a side note here's about as good as this rig is gonna get without LN2 lol.

Dane, do you see any increase/decrease in scores/performance from playing with cpu bclk?

    PS: Nice location!

  4. talked about how good the m17x-r3 is

now introducing the "new products", starting with the new m11x

m11x optional verizon 4G service and up to 11 hours battery

    - approx. 4.5lbs (depending on specs)

    - no HDMI-in

m14x verizon 4g, wireless streaming, and up to 6 hours battery

    - approx 6.5lbs

    - mini sub woofer (I think he meant that this is on the 18x, but said 14x)

    - no HDMI-in

    m18x "coming soon...in May"

    - Looks to be same base thickness of m17xr3

    - EXPECTED launch (base) price "$1999"

    - no 3D on the laptop's LCD, only via HDMI 1.4 or SiBEAM wireless

    - approx 16lbs!

    - will power up to 3 displays

    - HDMI-in is HTPC compliant, but windows does not recognize the display (so can't record) - but we already found this out in the 17x-r3

    - Graphics switching is supported

    - battery life up to 3 hours

Asked if they will dive into tablet market

"The answer is not no, but it's also not yes"

/end at 11:33am EST according to my clock!

  5. I'm thinking when It comes time to order 18xs maybe if we all go through the same rep we can convince him of a group buy price?

Anyone have any experience with Dell on this? Would be nice if out collective buying power could work for us.

I have a Canada only rep that has offered everyone that I forward to him for an 18x a base price of US equivalent. What you haggle from there is up to you. I'm not sure how many Canadians are here, but let me know if interested. I replied to this post because he also mentioned he would be less scrutinized for giving overly large discounts if he were to make bulk sales.

  6. OCZ really does not cease to amaze with their shadiness.

From my recent experiences with them, I'd say these v3 benches are bloated and will experience higher than normal degradation in their settled in state.

I mean, I would love to believe v3 will be the fastest - by a long shot - but after all they've put me through, and their pattern of disrespect and disregard toward their customers, I highly doubt it.

  7. I like to ram picture with the CPU text, and cpu picture with ram text!

Avenger is an awesomely sexy beast!

I'd love to get me one of those and send it in for a powder coating. Too bad I fall into the "wife would divorce my ass" category if I purchased one with the specs I want (which is essentially my r3 but with 2920xm - Don't really NEED dual 6970!)

Green with envy over the possible OC of the XM!

Here's hoping TS can work some magic, but even just the unlocked multi will be amazing

  8. Although I will not be picking up an m18x, I'm quite excited (due to being a tech nerd) by all this news!

When placing my r3 re-order last night, I spoke with my rep re; Avenger

HE said (and we all know reliability factor) the 18x will not feature a new PSU, but I find that incredibly difficult to believe.

The underside of Avenger is so sexy!

As soon as I saw that image, all I could think of is how comparatively low-end the 17x-r3 seems to be

  9. chipset

soft-touch rubbing off / peeling @ all corners (probably from using the cloth cover that comes with the system)

bsod @ startup if anything plugged into usb 2.0 ports

    460m hardware issues

    460m driver issues + BSODs + optimus terrible-ness

Dent in LCD cover (plexi glass)

several white imperfections in LCD cover

media bar popped up @right side

    etc....

Also already got $800 refunded from original purchase price, so this new r3 is technically discounted 49% from website price.

  10. Because of several issues with my r3, Dell support offered me 2 choices:

    1. Exchange

    2. Return for complete refund of original purchase price + 20% discount on re-order

(I obviously picked the 2nd option)

I finally got to re-order my slightly upgraded r3 today

    317-6114 1 Intel Core i7 2720QM 2.2GHz (3.3GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
    320-1939 1 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 6970M
    320-1933 1 17.3-inch WideFHD1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED
    318-0395 1 Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

    returned system: 2630QM, 460M, 1080p 60Hz, DVD

Would have gone with M14x if it were slated to offer a different GPU.
