I noticed the VGA port is also gone.
Unfortunately not...

Also, it would be nice to know how loud the fans are, compared to R2 (and R3 for example).
Absolutely...

woow, that is really too heavy, the psu alone heavier than many notebooks, are you sure of this info?
also do you know its size, and how does it compare to the good old 240w?
I can't be 100% sure as I don't have it in hands. This info has been pulled out a French site review, here.
They're talking about 1.47Kg, 3.2 lbs, but let's pretend it's gonna be only 2.8 lbs, + the weight of the M18X itself, 5.41Kg, 11.9 lbs as per the manual, which makes 11.9 + 2.8 = 14.7 lbs, so this is ± 15 lbs total cost of ownership...
For comparison again, the 240W PSU of the M17X weights 0.675Kg, 1.5 lbs...

Just as an FYI, 330W PSU will weight only 3.2 lbs...
M17X's 240W weights a huge 1.5 lbs...
Finally, Dell learned something...
Anyways, never mind ☺☻☺

and, as of 04.21.2011, is live in hands of real people out there...
But, that'll change soon...
Gotta love the M18X...

Happy it helped (even just a bit) you !

If these are the ONLY things you like, you must hate this thing ☺ !!!
I like:
Up to 32GB 1600MHz memory
2 USB 3.0 ports
SATA 3 HDD/SSD bus
Intel HD 3000 Onboard (512MB)
Program Keys
Subwoofer
18.4"...
And I'm sure I forgot some things...

IGP stands for: Integrated Graphic Processor, it's an Onboard Graphic Card that we could use to browse the net on battery for 6 hours or more with an M18X full packed of amenities on the other hand and with which we could only browse the net for half an hour on battery if there is (was) no such IGP inside...

lol.... isn't it a (little) too heavy to have it in bed?
depends on the size of the bed...

Indeed, I even think it will be offered with a single 460 WAY before they offer 460 or 480 or 485 in SLI...
-
Yup, so do I.
looking at the specs (size-wise), it should fit in there.
Again, maybe tight fit, but a fit is a fit, be it tight or loose, hey ?
-
My guess is that it would fit in the actual Orion backpack used for the M17X... (tight but fit)

Still boned and not a great argument for wanting more battery life. Not with a desktop replacement that's a heavy duty gaming rig. You'd go with a different computer if you were really looking for something that gave you ideal battery life.
Also, really worried about PSU death? Buy a second one as a backup.
Ya, well I thought you would understand I was just kidding... But maybe I sounded too serious; let me rephrase: If my PSU would die, I would much prefer if my battery would then allow me to use my lappy for 8 hours than only 1 hour and a half, especially because I would then need my computer to send an email to Dell Tech Support to get a replacement... ...And as I do not type too fast, I need more than only 1 hour and a half to compose the email...
As for the second PSU, you are so right: wondering on this matter why Dell/Alienware do not offer, like some others do, when you initially buy your rig, to get a second PSU at half the price... Thing is that those bricks cost a freakin lot, we're talking $150 ~ $200, not exactly peanuts mind you, and on top, having two of them is much useful for at least three reasons:
1. If one dies, you have the other;
2. If you use your lappy in 2 different places in your house, you can leave each PSU at the right place, so you don't have to mess around to move it;
3. If you travel with your beast, you can still leave a PSU in your house, at the exact place where you use it the most, so no mess around neither...
As a matter of fact, I do indeed have two PSU here; one delta and one flextronic. But I only use one at a time, and I appreciate both of them as I got one sitting (and waiting) at my desk, and I mess/move the other one around, because it likes it !
Cheers !

Sure thing but then, you want your battery to give you the most it can, and I would take 8 hours much more than 1 hour and a half...

your wish came true - from dell china :
"2.1 speakers with subwoofer audio driver side configuration is Kipsch ®"
Sounds great !
But I am wondering why...
They went with 2X USB 2.0 and 2X USB 3.0 instead of going 4 X USB 3.0 ??? (apart from the ESATA3/USB2 port)
Just hope they went with SATA3 inside for the drives...
Maybe they should have included a thunderbolt port instead of this dowdy VGA that no one ever uses anymore since two thousands lightyears ?
Finally, I'm just hoping this google translation is right, and that the subwoofer is not tied to an expensive option (seems there's two choices for the audio card).
We'll see in times I guess. Thanks for the heads-up !

I see talk of things like concerns about battery life in the m18x. I can't imagine a situation where I'd bother using it not plugged in unless I was desperate or forced. It is a desktop replacement after all.
Say your PSU dies...

And HOW I would LOVE to have a subwoofer-inside...
Even willing to trade a fan for a sub...
Please....
I WANT AND I NEED A SUBWOOFER, I've been quiet and nice all year long so far; please allow me to get some BASS in my ears, in my body and all over the place !
Ok....

Hard to tell indeed 'cause the pic is not high quality...
But there's at least 3; maybe four if we're lucky !

They will most likely add options as time goes on...
Meaning, once they fix every little annoying thing that will be discovered after the launch...
just a thought though...
