  1. I had posted this in the Razer forum but then realized that svl7 has his own dedicated request thread.

    Hey guys,

    I'm posting this as a request to get a modded BIOS for the blade 14inch 2nd gen. Would love to see an unlock for the 765m so we can push it more than 135 core.

    I will donate to anyone who uses their time to help us achieve our goal. Maybe the master himself, slv7 would be able to accomplish this?

  2. @RPXZ yes, if your motherboard supports XTU it should work as a starting point. (I don't know what brand you have, so it is hard to give a carte blanche answer.)

    You may have to adjust the power settings up or down and take the time to figure out what is best for your CPU. The higher you overclock, the move power is required. For an MQ processor you will have more limitations, but you should definitely be able to wring more performance from it. If you experience issues with the system shutting itself off (without overheating) this can be an indication that you are pushing the power settings too high and need to back down on them.

    Thank you for your response Mr. Fox! I have a MSI GT60 2OD with a 4800mq, the board supports XTU however I am at a loss on how to overclock the haswell chips. I will take your advice and make the changes and see what happens![h=1][/h]

  3. Your CPU performance is completely destroying your overall benchmark result. This will even have an adverse effect on your GPU performance.

    Install XTU and drop core voltage to 1.165v, leave it set to Adaptive mode. Set your long and short turbo power limits to 100 each, increase the turbo time window to at least 256 and set Processor Current Limit to 90 and see if your 4700MQ improves. (Don't try to change Core Current Limit. That will not work at all, and it will also force a reboot.) If this helps, tinker more with XTU settings to fine tune the performance. Also, go into the BIOS and make sure the overclocking features are enabled. Set your core multipliers as high as the BIOS will let you for each core.

    Can this same advice be used for a 4800mq?

  4. very nice, what was the voltage set at on your gpu? And I assume you used intel XTU for your processor.

    Yes, XTU for the processor. Only changes with that were 102.2485 reference clock and forcing the multipliers at 36/35/34/34.

    The 780 was clocked at 1060/3000 but for some reason that actual core clock was at 1040ish or so. Nvinspector was off by at least 15mhz. I'm not sure why but I found a couple people on the forum were having the same issue. I had to have it at +62.5mv. May have been able to go a little higher at that voltage but I was happy breaking 9k.

  5. It sounds to me like your GPU is throttling at those clocks. Either exceeding the power limits, or the temperature limits. I would think with that overclock that you would be getting that P9k in 3DMark11 with a 780M no problem. I think you have to increase the power & temperature limits of the 780M using EVGA PrecisionX or NVInspector, in fact I think NVInspector is better (that's what svl7 seems to recommend using based on posts I've read).

    EDIT: you say the card doesn't seem to be downclocking. Maybe it just stays at the same clocks (doesn't downclock) when it reaches the power limit, and instead maybe just decreases GPU usage to stay within the power limits?

    EDIT2: Haha, I've just noticed you got 9205 GPU score. Right, then you're card is probably performing absolutely fine at those clocks, probably not downclocking or throttling at all. Yes, you need more CPU power if you want the overall score higher, like has been mentioned already. (Or keep pushing the GPU onto ever higher scores!)

    Ya I don't want to shove more power to this card so I think I'll mess around with the reference clock a little and see if I can squeeze some more MHz out if the processor. Surely I can get another 35-40 points out of it. I simply just want to break into the P9k and I be satisfied... I think. Power doesn't seem to be too much of an issue yet. According to the kill-a-watt meter the nb is drawing 155ish and peaked one time at 170 but still not enough for MSI's dumb hybrid mode to kick on.

  6. Question: say if I use slv7 vbios and keep the clocks at 1000 cpu core and a +300ish memory OC, will that severely limit the life of my card? or will it be pretty safe.?

    Depends what you set the voltage at. Higher = more heat = less life. I personally wouldn't worry about it too much depending on what your temps are at.

  7. The very high scores use heavily overclocked XM CPUs for 11K+ physics scores. Are you using an svl7 BIOS? If not your card will be downclocking during tests.

    Yes I am using a slv7 vbios. I've been logging with gpuz and it doesn't seem to down clock however anything over 1020 I have to up the core clock 5mhz more. For example if I want 1030 I would have to use inspector to clock it at 1035. As of my latest benchmark run I'm at 8934 with a graphics score of 9205. So close :/

  8. What are you overclocked to for the people that are getting P9k in 3Dmark11? I for some reason can not get 9k. The highest I have been able to achieve is P8756 with the card clocked at 1020/3000 using the latest beta nvidia drivers I'm seeing a lot of machines breaking into the 9k mark with less clocks. Is there something I am missing here? CPU is a 4900MQ with setting the multipliers as high as it allows me to.

  9. If you have the GT60/70 Ivy bridge generation, then a more powerful power supply will always help, especially if you want to overclock/overvolt your GPU. Only Haswell MSI generation are hit by the 180W power lock down due to the NOS feature.

    Damn, I have the haswell NB. The NOS feature can't even compete with a bigger PSU. I wonder if there is a way to disable it?

  10. I have been doing a little research on upgrading the power brick to something along the lines of a 220 watt or more. However I do have a few questions.

    Is the max power draw BIOS/Firmware limited? From my research some are saying that upgrading to something bigger than the 180watt is pointless because its firmware locked at 180watt max power draw.

    What unit is everyone getting? I saw the units from dell but i see that the amps are different. Is that ok? Should I get the 240watt or the 330watt? Would I need to find adapters to fit the plug in on the laptop?

  11. Flashed the unlocked bios to a Dell GTX 780m. Works great. Heaven extreme runs stable even at 1006/3000Mhz basically GTX 680 clocks. Definitely a keeper. No issues with the 3D version of the M17x R4 apart from lost 3D. 120Hz still present.

    What is the voltage at? I have mine at 1020/3000 but I had to give it some more power. If you have that at stock voltage then you sir have a nice card!

  12. Whats your GPU score? if you have a 4700mq, then you're probably reaching around 9000-9200 on your GPU score. I think the 240w PSU is a dell slim or something like that, i'll have to look it up again.

    *edit* andfor the vbios flash all i'd need is nvflash, the files, a usb stick and knowing the commands?

    Ya GPU score is in the 9s. Don't know the exact number off hand my notes are on my desk.

    You are correct for the vbios flash. There is a guide on how to correctly make the bootable flash drive which IMO is the hardest part of the process lol. Always make a backup of your stock vbios.

    As for the PSU I do believe youre correct on it being a slim brick. I think I may just go ahead and order one and do some testing. I hope that us MSI users can actually utilize the extra wattage though. I can't find a definitive answer if the wattage is BIOS locked.

  13. Ive heard people using 240W dell PSUs on their MSIs, but they run about 120 bucks or so. Also im a bit hesitant to do a vBIOS flash because this pc is fairly new, and I would haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate to brick the card on a 2,300 dollar laptop. Also i've never does a vBIOS flash before but i'd be willing to try. I wish the MSIs came with better psus, as hybrid power simply cannot compensate enough for the lack of power for this pc.

    I have a feeling anything over low 9000s will run into a power issue. The Kepler line is one hell of an overclocking line. I just learned yesterday some users have been pushing their P3500 stock 670mxs to around 6500 gpu scores, which to me is absolutely unreal.

    Flashing is easy! There is a great guide on here that will help you and you can always make a backup of your stock vbios. I think i may try the dell PSU however i was concerned thst the msi bios is locked to only utilize the 180 watt PSU because of the "hybrid" feature. BTW if you haven't pasted with IC diamond you might want to do that. Load temps are almost down 7-10c on GPU and CPU. I have always been an AS3-5 person too. I'm at P8700 right now can't seem to get into the 9s having stablitiy issues. Seems like the last test on 3dmark11 keeps crashing. 1020 core clock 1500(3000 combined) mem clock +37.5mv.

  14. Is anyone having problems forcing pstates with the 780m?

    I am using nvidia inspector but the cards clocks keep changing? I have a MSI GT60 with the 780m flashed with the 780m unlocked BIOS.

    I have tried multiple different commands

    -forcepstate:0,0

    -forcepstate:0,2

    -forcepstate:0,0 (This one does lock the card from changing pstates however the card never goes over 324mhz?

    I think I'm an idiot. Maybe I'm missing something? Any advice?
