Does anyone know how to setup the e-gpu so it uses the internal display?

Dam you beat me to the post! This product pretty looks nice but this is not t the first time this idea has been on kickstarter. Hopefully they are more successful than the bull box.

Have you done any benchmarks with your setup? I would be interested to see some of the scores that were achieved since i will be doing this exact build (w/o the case) but with an EVGA 1060 SC. It will be a few weeks before everything arrives though especially since the 1060s are on backorder everywhere!!
Here ya go! Let me know if this helps or you want another benchmark!

I am impressed you got the PCIE cable to fit snug in the box while its closed! good job! Ill have to try bending the wires like that! It also seems like this mini 1060 is probably the most ideal GPU for the Akitio Box now.

Bootcamp assistant can't do that. It helps in partitioning the main drive and providing an EFI boot manager as well as Apple drivers. It's not needed for external drives.
Mhm well dam not sure what to tell ya

I took some pictures for you to see. I will have to load them to the Mac to be able to shrink them first.
The card itself fits really nicely, but the power plug is a bit too high. Maybe I can modify it. Until then, I will leave the box open.
You bet, I will!
Reset the system? You mean restart?
I already tried that. Multiple times.
I don't use bootcamp. I have a dedicated USB SSD to boot Windows from
I suggest installing windows to the drive using bootcamp assistant then.

Try going into the windows side and disabling all other graphics drivers. It should revert to windows basic adapter or something like that. If it requests a restart just reset the system. After you do that change your bootcamp setting to automatically boot into the windows side. This did the trick for me!

FYI: I'm running a Zotac 1060 with windows 10 (rMBP 2012), and no problems with instability. I did do the power stability mods to my Akitio box way back -- before that I was having instability problems with previous cards unless they were very low power (like a K600)
I do have sporadic crashes in windows (maybe once a week?), but I believe its no more frequent than before I switched to the eGPU setup.
After changing some boot setting my stability issues went away!

How do you boot up your E-GPU? Just hold alt, turn it on, then go into windows?

Is it 1060 mini version, right? Other user ( not me ) succeeded boot-up with 1060 mini in other forum. But he also suffered unstable boot-up issue in windows 8.1 & 10.
I'm under considering buy 1060 mini for my egpu configuration. If you got anything to share, it'll be helpful, thanks in advance.
I haven't done enough tests yet but I will be sure to let you know if i figure it out! I also have been using parallels pior this setup and i think the paraelles drivers may be affecting it but I am not 100% sure.

I finally completed my build using the following parts!
Parts:
Akitio Box:
EVGA 500 PSU:
Molex to Barrel:
Software Setup:
1) Plugged in all components.
2) Turned on the PSU. (Paper clip trick )
2) Booted up Windows 10 ( Bootcamp )
3) Installed latest Nvidia Drivers
4) Reset the system.
After completing these steps my macbook recognized the E-GPU. I will post some benchmarks soon!
Note:
The E-GPU does not always work. It seems to work only after I install the Nvidia drivers. Ill keep you up to date when I learn more. After fooling around with the E-GPU for a day i fixed the stability issues!
1) Disabled all other video drivers. ( Iris Pro Drivers )
2) Changed bootcamp setting so the target disk was the windows partition instead of the mac partition.
Games:
720p:
Overwatch All Setting MAXED + 200% Render Scale. 60+ FPS
Skyrim All Settings MAXED 60 FPS

Zotac released a new mini 1060 that fits in the Akitio box without bending! ( I think ) This adds to the small list of cards that can fit in the box without modification!

@JohnyB33 awesome, thanks! So after I plug the 4pin to the barrel adapter, and the barrel into the PCIe board, would the last step be to directly plug in the 6pin and 8pin from the PSU to the 970? Would all of my power needs be satisfied at that point?
Correct

Hi @HiroCool, thanks for your reply. I am aware that the board receives power via a barrel plug. My question is how exactly I would convert one of the power cables coming from the 430 PSU to a barrel plug.

Nice case, You had no issues when cutting all the other wires on the PSU? I want to do this to mine but was not sure if the cutting the wires that were not in use would affect the power supply.

Anyone have any extra 5.5x2.5 DC Barrel screws? Every place in the US (online) is sold out.
just buy the whole cable http://www.ebay.com/itm/261920944843, probably cheaper than buying one screw and paying for shipping and what not.

You call that small? ^^
Yea its not that big? From the looks of some review videos i'd says its relatively small.
-
Pretty small and cheap case i think is good for an e-gpu. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811353094

Using a 8x to 16x riser card should affect performance correct? or should i use a 16x to 16x riser card?
-
You managed to get the eGPU running with two different power supplies?
-
Im looking for a good PCIe riser for my eGPU. Ive notice on a lot of reviews they say that the risers burn there motherboard or the plastic melts. Does anyone know any good quality risers that are fairly cheap?

No, with an 8-Pin PCIe you will have to rewire it. Currently you would have a GND and 12V direclty connected!
So i would just have to pull the wires out and stick them in the appropriate spots?

I guess i should have specified, I wanted to get it working for windows 10 not 8.1. Not sure if that makes a difference for this guide.
