I just want to confirm before purchasing questions
Fred5612 replied to fernangus's topic in DIY e-GPU Projects
Hello gents and ladies. I'm going to start this off by saying that I am a complete newbie to eGPU solutions and while I have a basic grasp on how they work and their limitations I do not possess an advanced technical know-how on this subject. -Story- (skip if you dgaf) Now, my life's requirements have me often moving from one country to the other and whilst in the past I've built a gaming tower I often find myself without the willpower nor the time to ship it overseas every time I move. My first thought was to buy a gaming laptop but they seem to be ridiculously overpriced machines that end up being obsolete almost immediately after you buy them, so I settled on an eGPU. -Idea Something that really caught my eye in the market was this solution: it looks compact and streamlined and easy to use. Although after some more reading I garnered that the "bison box" is quite an expensive rebrand of some components already available on the market, what I had seen in the video sort of stayed with me as my ideal setup. Now, I am not a huge fan of MacBooks and Apple in general, and was wondering if I could do a similar thing with a Windows laptop (price is NOT an issue) in this case. I was thinking of getting a Dell XPS 15 like this one: http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/productdetails/xps-15-9550-laptop and configure it with the use of it's Thunderbolt plug in a setup similar to the above. I have not seen anyone else do this and my searches on Google have brought up no one else with my same idea, so this brings me to: -Questions Is this possible? If yes, how can I implement it? If not, what is the best alternative/s? Thank you all for the attention, I'm sorry for the newb-ishness that transpires from this post and I'm looking forward to your answers, good day.
