  1. Sure thing but then, you want your battery to give you the most it can, and I would take 8 hours much more than 1 hour and a half...

Still boned and not a great argument for wanting more battery life. Not with a desktop replacement that's a heavy duty gaming rig. You'd go with a different computer if you were really looking for something that gave you ideal battery life.

Also, really worried about PSU death? Buy a second one as a backup. winkgun.gif

  2. night and day, lol :P
Thankfully the world is more colorful that that. post-88-14494987810389_thumb.gif
speaking of which - if only all this power could only be squeezed into the form factor/battery life of an ipad, rofl!!!~ :P j/k  could. not. resist.
That tech exists somewhere in a government and/or Intel lab.
I have no doubt! Just a matter of cost. Just a few million to play the latest PC games on the go. heh.gif
  3. understood, definitely do ndeed respect that perspective for shure!~ :P simply working from more of a black and white based view (either it's something truly portable or would just go build a tethered desktop) when weighing all these pro/con factors for the system purchase decision - but that's just personal usage/need/preference here... ;)

    Black and white? What's that?

    :P

  4. I'm thinking that with the little bit of extra space in the 18 inch screen model they can fit two graphics cards with proper cooling as well as all the other guts we are accustomed to from these beasts. It will mean more power draw for sure and it's not that difficult to supply that power. It's a desktop replacement so battery life really shouldn't be a big deal.

EDIT: I should admit that I'm hopeful as hell and a bit biased right now. I'm getting a full refund for the machine in my sig and that money will be going directly towards an M18x. If it releases in late April that should be perfect timing with the 21 days it will take to get the funds back. :)

  5. Good news everyone, i just got a confirmation from a source directly at Dell that both the m18x and m14x are a go.

He has an internal document with part numbers and descriptions for both the m14x and the m18x.

(yes yes, working on getting my hands on it :) )

    Sweet. :)

I'm dying (as I'm sure we all are) to get confirmation of a solid release date.

  6. TBH I dont give a crap what screen is on it - my dell u2711 does all my gaming much better. I have lanned with my lappy using the inbuilt screen and it was just too small.
A good screen is still a big deal on a high-end laptop for most people. When I'm home I plug mine into the 50" plasma screen and rock that but. But who really buys a laptop to just keep it at home 100% of the time?
  7. To be honest, I'm not even sure I'd buy an M18x apart for the purpose of doing a review for T|I. I've been wanting a light gaming notebook and the R3 seems to fit that bill nicely. It's not built as well as the R2 and lacks the RGB LED but apart from that, it's a very nice notebook that's well rounded.
I'd be totally cool with a M17x-R2 that has Sandy Bridge guts, a 120 mhz screen and the new hotness in mobile video cards.
  8. Aikimox, thank you for posting the link for the M18x awesomeness! Imagine guys i stayed on that site and was quiet from there i would of been banned anyway lol. Sometimes i feel like making a profile just to say FU Charles P Jefferies you a hole!!! Burn lolz. They been crapping on themselves for the past six months and saying its a car wreck it's worse and will be getting worse if they don't let the pressure up and i have the picture of the M14x from the thread. All they been is closing down the m18x threads down and the m17x R3 threads down and look here when we actually have freedom and not some stupid parents looking down at our backs and trying to schoal us for every little thing we really been great to each other while criticizing the R3 and R2 and etc.. I wanna see this forum get really awesome in the next coming years and do the mods and everything for the newest machines i am sometimes even amazed that they even allow the posts of hardware mods and bios mods. One day they might even not allow the speaking of overclocking the way it is going and also the way things are going they probably get their server knocked out or something the H word! lol. People should all rise up and complain about them and not take for the sake of their profile being banned!! I am tired of them all those freaking nazis! The M18x better have an awesome IPS RGBLED 120HZ screen!!!
Dude. Ya gotta break up your thoughts into more than one long, unreadable run-on sentence. Line breaks are your friend. :)
  9. Those are the same pics from the link vikingrinn posted to NBR last week. The difference was over there they were in the 14x thread that got closed.

And it looks like the article linked to the site in Italian was from January plus other info that's been floating around for quite a while. Unfortunately, this doesn't look like the goods or anything new. :(

  10. Welcome to T|I J. Crichton (btw that show rocked). It seems like they are trying to force you to get an R3 so IMO the best option to pursue is to ask for your money back. That way you can wait until the M18x is released in a few months and get a dual card system.
I'm definitely going to give that a shot on Monday. It'll be a bit of a pain to not have a laptop for however long it take them to bring out the M18x but I'll live. I was all geared up to talk to a rep Friday afternoon after multiple phone transfers and then work got in the way and I was too pooped when I got home to put up a fight.
  11. Gotta first say that it's good to have a site like this around. Thanks to a vikingrinn for the heads-up. :)

So, I'm still going through my cheezed off period with my current replacement situation with Dell/Alienware (some peeps here gave some great advise over there before the thread was locked). I am going exactly through what this thread is about. R2 (with the 4870 GPUs) to R3 because an idiot tech trying to repair a Blu-ray drive fat-fingered my R2 to death. I'm not quite sure how he did it but he actually managed to scratch the screen, too.

Anywho, I'm getting a R3 as a replacement and I'm not diggin' the fact that the screen is smaller and of lesser quality. It's not cool to lose the ability to have dual graphics cards. The machine, based just on specs, doesn't feel like Alienware All Powerful. It's a notch or two below. Especially for what I paid for in my original rig.

I think it's great that there is something out there for people looking for a powerful unit that has better battery life and is lighter than the R2. But I bought my R2 as a pure desktop replacement so the weight and battery life mean very little to me. Almost nothing, in fact.

It will be great to get something truly top of the line like what we are hearing about the m18x because the R3 certainly isn't. :(

For those who care and gave my some great advice from the old NBR thread: I am still trying to get someone who can give me some better upgrades on my replacement to make up for the $800 difference in the machines not to mention all the BS I've gone through since late January just trying to get a laptop back in my hands.
