Maybe it just depend on what someone do with the screen besides gaming?
I wasn't talking about just gaming.
-
Matte screens are horrible outside.
And the M18x screen, even uncalibrated it just fine. I had the RGBLED on the M17x-R2 and it was awesome but this isn't a colossal downgrade and now that I have it in hand I feel a little silly for being concerned in the first place.

What magazine is that?

Sorry to hear man but at least Dell will send you a new one asap. BTW, got any 2920xm benchmarks for us yet?been dying to see some 2920xm numbers too. purdyyy please!!!!!!
When I get home I'll download some benching software from the other threads and post some stuffs. I've been mainly trying to optimize the Intel 510 and I think I've squeezed out as much as I can.
-
Yeah, that was my first thought. It was the one that came with the M18x, too.
Data is all set. Moved everything to the C drive. Argh.
-
This is basically me just bitching at this point but I think something is wrong with the Momentus XT in my unit. Every so often I'll get a hang in the system (typically close to booting up) and then I get that error msg followed by the drive dissappearing (D in this case, the Intel 510 is my main drive). It has "come back" every time it's gone away after a reboot but I've now seen it between 3-5 times.
Also, something is making a squeaking noise. Argh. Something tells me I'll be popping this thing open again to remove the drive and start the troubleshooting there.
... I really hope it's not the Intel SSD.
-
It even prompts you for the reboot when you remove the power cord. Nice touch.

Does the wireless kit enable you to also access files, i.e. windows explorer and browse the web?
No, it's basically just a wireless HDMI connection. However, you could just clone the screen to the display and have access to everything on your M18x.
-
Are you asking if it works as advertised? It does.Anything will be an improvement over my current Inspiron 9300 with a 100gb 7200 HDD. J how is th wireless kit? Is it worth the $289? Also, havent seen many good pics of the black aside from Manards. Please post some when you can. rawhide85As for the "worth it" part, that's really up to you. It's a luxury that I like to have since I use the laptop quite a bit on my TV for media and gaming.

JCrichton- Just saved a 120GB 510 on my newegg wishlist for funds to become available. I am looking to add an additional 500GB disk drive. What would be the best solution, raid or just internal storage for most media files and software?
Best is different for everyone. All depends on if you are looking for speed versus reliability versus size.

Come Monday I *should* be able to run a few benches and such. Huzzah.
I also snapped and picked up the Intel 510 (256gb). Just couldn't go with the 320 series when I know the newer drives can take more advantage of the SATA III.

Le drat.
Still in production. Not that I'll have much time to play. But still.

Picked up 16gb's of DDR3 at newegg.com for $199. I know its not a good price, but it beats the $600 Dell wanted for it and it's the same HyperX ram Brian bought.... so can't wait to try out XMP profiles! (I will be using ramdisk for pagefile but won't get my system till atleast mid june!)
I'd say it's a fine price.
-
Yup I just checked mine(thanks for the phone number Brian) and yes is stuck in production. I hope I bypass testing.
In the Build stage for me.
-
yeah I would go for the 320 series instead of the 510 as well, prefer better 4K over sequential speeds. Plus what I do doesn't require that much of sequential throughput anyways.
Too true. Either that or I wait longer until a really meaningful upgrade is released where the speed increase will really matter. I already have a SSD that works great so it's just a matter or space management ATM.
-
I think I'm gonna hold off on the 510 series stuff and likely get more storage from the 320 series. Can't shake the Intel bug either.
Gonna wait until the beast arrives first.
-
$350 for 300GB is fantastic imo.
Certainly is. Nice.

Dell always overestimates shipping dates. I've had computers arrive 10 business days before their EDD.Brian, did the preliminary ship date say somewhere around 5/24 for you? That's what it was when I ordered it and I find it quite strange that it takes over 20 days to build a computer when they have no shortage of parts. -
I know the M17x-R3 suffers from that, and since it and M18x share the same chipset, it's clear the M18x will be limited the same way.

And as you saw at NBR, I ended up with the same RAM.
I'm really tempted to go with the Intel 320 300GB SSD or perhaps the 510 120GB. The old M-25 would end up in my wife's laptop.

The m18x is not only 1 inch bigger than the m17-R3 looks can be deceiving.
I was referring to my old rig ... a M17x-R2.
M17x-R2
Height: 2.02-2.11 in.
Width: 15.98 in.
Depth: 12.65 in.
M18x
Height: 2.09-2.13 in.
Width: 17.17 in.
Depth: 12.68 in.
About 1 inch diff.

Waitadamnsecond! Are you saying there will be new tech out in the near future that will OUTPERFORM the current tech?!?Thats nearly 40% boost... that is jaw dropping, and usually only tock implementations have that kind of increase in performance. In engineering terms, this is fucking insane! My recommendation is get the 2720qm for now, and ebay an ivy XM as soon as it drops!
Shut you your damn, dirty, lyin' hole.
-
lol i'm gonna laugh when I show you the M18x fitting snugly inside my existing Orion backpack
I assume we'll be laughing together. I see no reason why the current Orion backpack won't hold something about an inch bigger.
-
Oh jeeze.Yeah, there was a blast of PMs on NBR a while ago for users to join T|I by one of our users and as a result NBR blacklisted the word techinferno for a while. I had to intervene to whitelist it back.
