I have flashed the A13 stock because OSD display solves the problem but I have not unlock ...... :-(
-
It is incredible
Is a miracle that the end user receives a product without damage.
-
So If I read this correctly. You cannot flash from Stock A09 > Unlocked A09?
That is correct. Only is possible flahs bios 05 stock or unlock > 08 or 09.
From bios 09 stock not is possible nothing..............not downgrade or upgrade to bios unlock

Maybe i'm just missing something, but whenever i try to use the m17r4 a09, it reboots, then gives me an error message upon restart. Insyde H20- Secure Flash, Error:Invalid Firmware Image!!! Press any key to reboot.
ive got it on the unlocked a08 also, which i have the "normal" a08. Anyone else get this?
Only is posible of A05 > A08 or A09 but not unlocked BIOS -A08 > A08 stock.

I have my R4 with mod bios A05. I think it will be long before the firmware update again.
Also, for now I have no plans to upgrade to Windows 8
-
Too bad we no longer have more Bios mod :-(
-
Dell want to know what changes have the update.
By the way, I have a question. The R4 has EUFI bios?
-
Maybe it's a minor upgrade to the next Windows8. License validation system, etc ...

Does this allow hypertheading to be turned off?
oh i didnt even notice i posted twice O.O
Also how would i flash this? this is my first real computer so im still learning and everyone has to learn from some where
If you disable hypertheading.
Flashing is simple .... first you put the battery in your computer. after, close all programs you have in the background (disable antivirus, etc). Then run the exe file of the bios and wait for it to finish.
If all goes well smoothly restarts.

Great job, flashed without problems.

Final update on my incident! So last Wednesday I expected to get a call from the rep to arrange an appointment with a tech but he never called. I tried to get another rep on the phone and this guy said my depot work was set up by someone else and he would not be comfortable changing that. So to save myself hassle and time since I will have to contact the original guy by email who set up the box delivery for me, I just packed my laptop up and let Fed Ex came and picked it up.
Needless to say ever since I checked my repair status on the depot site feverishly. Although the tracking shows that mine system got sent to the depot on Friday there wasn't any update on the site. I was worried and then later today I came home and bam! here it is my precious! I open it up in hope nothing is messed up.
Turn out either I am extremely lucky or it's just the internet being vocal again (or a mixture of both). My laptop came back in perfect condition with everything as it should be. There were no defect, no missing screw or broken hinge whatsoever. Since I formatted my stock hard drive back when I first purchased it, they couldn't get to windows with my stock drive. They thought there was a problem with it and said in the included letter that they dispatched a replacement hard drive to me in 3 days time. So not only my laptop arrived in pristine condition, they also give me a free extra hard drive?
And on the invoice, they checked the motherboard box indicating it was the part that got replaced. No question asked and I didn't have to spend a cent. I then proceeded to put back my self-purchased parts. Windows didn't come up at first and I was scared a little. But then I thought maybe the integrated graphics setting got fumbled up with the motherboard replacement so I press the power button once to set it to sleep mode. I pushed the alien head once more to wake it up and the screen gloriously lighten up. I Fn+F7'd and then updated drivers and stuff. Everything is working perfectly again. Also they did already update my BIOS to A05 so I won't have to worry about that anymore.
All in all I gotta say their warranty service is terrific even though I did have to jump through a few hoops. And their timing is amazing. Not counting the weekend, it only took 3 days for my laptop to get back to me. I am seriously considering getting extra warranty years now.
I'm glad that the repair in the deposit was well.
really you contacted him?? WoooWAfter much time and trouble with my R3, my options were few.

Another option would be ordering a Dell BT375 or BT380 module for your R4. Then you can best for both worlds (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth).
PS. BT375 is Bluetooth 3.0, while BT380 is Bluetooth 4.0, the dimension of both module are identical, and share the same cable.
It is a good idea

Now I am with the 2230.

Well the tech guy came out this AM and replaced the mobo and graphics card.I bricked my mobo Saturday while flashing to the A05 Bios. The computer shut down before completing the flash then I got lights and 1 beep. I've heard of several R4 owners having the same problem when updating the bios.Any way the manager I spoke with on Sat. was really very nice and offered to send me a replacement after I refused to send it in to the Dreaded Depot. I didn't want to wait 3-4 weeks so he said he'd send out a mobo and graphics card with the agreement that if anything else breaks on this machine he's sending me a replacement.
Best to avoid the deposit "If it is possible".
-
Thanks, it is an interesting option. I believe that option is most logical.

Hi guys!
The last monday arrived my replacement [R3 to R4]. The configuration of my R4 proposal included the Intel 2230 but this is not a problem.
Six months ago buy on-line (in store DELL) the Intel 6300 for my R3 and worked fine.
Yesterday update my R4 (SSD, HDD, RAM and Intel 6300) but now I have no Bluetooth. The problem is that the Intel 2230 include the BT 4.0. Well, now I have to choose Intel 6300 or 2230 + Bt; normally I do not use Bluetooth (I do not need) but I would like to have.
Any advice.

Great now I understand.
the Reps on the phone can sometimes use the excuse of "deposit", but not a required.
-
Thanks for the clarification.
In my country, Spain, the technician usually comes home.
In the second year standard of the warranty, send the deposit. If you buy the advanced warranty (NBD) usually comes home the technician.
-
Now i'm just waiting for the box to ship the laptop to their depot station in houston texas or something.
A question?
You warranty is "Next business day"?
A technician can go to your house to make the repair, do not understand why sending the deposit.

It is unfortunate but we must be very patient ... and in this case the BBB is an option to press
-
I already had to deal with the Dell guys at the phone... and only one time I talked to someone who actually knew what he was talking about. It can be annoying as hell... really. The BIOS is user upgradable, there's a reason for BIOS updates and there's also a reason why they put them on the Dell site.
A phone rep who says you need a tech's guidance for a BIOS update is a moron, especially since all gets flashed from within Windows, even with a GUI. Also... what's the difference if you have a tech guiding you and you still get a brick? I mean there's nothing a tech could do to avoid this...
I totally agree.
-
Yes it is. You must be really unlucky to get a brick... and even then, your covered by the warranty.
I thought that updating the BIOS is under warranty but DELL support does not think the same. A user of NotebookReview, Long2905 has problems (updating bios A05 = R4 brick). He called the support and said " According to them, updating BIOS without a tech's guidance is considered user's neglect therefore isn't covered by warranty". Finally fixed the problem calling repeatedly to support ......but at the beginning they did not want to support.
-
Glad you figured it out. Contacting Michael Dell has been known to work wonders, it's a good reminder that customers should never give up on demanding a fair solution even when the regular support channels fail.
I agree but it is the last resort.
-
Hello,
I read in the NotebookReview forum that two computers were brick when upgrading the bios a05.
Is safe or not to upgrade?
